    WOW!! This is absolutely amazing. You missed your flight, slept in the car, etc. and you came in 10th in one of the most competitive ultra marathons in the US. You finished ahead of names like Tim Tollefson, Jonathan Rea, Dan Green, Cole Watson, Heather Jackson.....bro....I'm looking at the next Jim Walmsley here. What are you like 22?

    Congrats, what a race!! You've got great friends and family, too! I'm glad you included the rhabdo incident... our sport is awesome, but that's a part of the reality. I hope you're fully recovered! Looking forward to catching up on vids, and see what else you tackle! (And those had better have been fantastic gummie worms!)

    Great effort Hans! Sounds like a great learning experience and appreciate the transparency. Many people might sugar coat it to avoid criticism but it says a lot about you that you didn't. Look forward to following you in the future. Chris

    So, Hans...I have been a subscriber since your last couple of videos. I made the Jim Walmsley comparison then too. You are just 24 and I think you learned some valuable lessons out there on this one. I thought @Hayden Hawks looked quietly confident, but slightly nervy sat next to you at the intros. Get well, recover well, and don't rush things. All very obvious advice, but I am backing you to be right up there in a few years time.

    damn dude that is scary! I almost reached out to you to see if you wanted a pacer for some of it near the end, as I think I could avoid being dropped for 10 to 15 miles haha

    Dude! It was great to race you out there! If I would’ve known that I already had top 10 locked up I probably wouldn’t have passed you at the end 😅. Still feel a little bad about that especially knowing now that you ran a super gutsy race and ended up in the hospital afterwards 🔥

      I did not qualify with this performance unfortunately, but it has left me very hungry for 2025. I will definitely be out hunting for a golden ticket again. 😁

    You did great. I suggest run Cruel Jewel 100 north of you. It will get you in WS 100 and Hardrock lottery with a finish. It is the toughest ultra in US because of Duncan ridge trail. That race will get you some mountain credit. It has 33K of climbing. It is every May 17.

      If you're looking for tough, check out the new Jigger Johnson 100, in NH. It's not just the 32k feet in elevation, but the very technical footing in parts that makes it so brutal.

    Thanks for the candid video. You are an inspiration. On the Black canyon live stream, I believe they said that you don'r get much hill running in your area. Did that play a part in the race? Downhills can ruin your quads fast. Great job and great video. Keep them coming!

    • @HansIsYoungAndFit
      @HansIsYoungAndFit  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I do not get much hill training unfortunately, but I really think the hydration/nutrition aspect is what tore me up on this one.

    Had to google what rhabdo even was , new fear unlocked. how do you even prevent this ? Is this from not running much in the weeks leading upto event and causing muscles to over exert ? Or is this just from pushing too hard during the race ? PS : we can all see how amazing you are and what a star you will be in the ultra scene. Get better soon.

    • @HansIsYoungAndFit
      @HansIsYoungAndFit  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      From my understanding it can happen anytime muscles are overworked to the point of exhaustion. However, things like dehydration and lack of nutrition cause this to happen faster. I also had been taking some painkillers leading up the race which I’m sure already had my kidneys a bit fatigued to start. Lots of things played a factor in sure.

    Hey were you taking a bunch of anti-inflammatories for your Achilles? If so it may have contributed to your kidney failure. Congratulations on performance. Very impressive given all you had to deal with. Heal up!
