I can only imagine the can of worms that opens up when you go from a tiny urban flower farm to an actual farm - and vice versa.

Did you read the Open food network report on flower farming in Canada? Results of a survey.. I was surprised that the revenues while growing on 1 acre or less were basically all the same.. and that I fell into the same revenue category (thought I’d be on the low end compared to others). I’m under 1 acre. It really showed that the amount of money you can bring in depends on your land size (obvz in some ways I guess) but scaling up takes $$ and more man power which not many of us can afford. It’s a tough business model without the ability to scale up.

@ I did not, but thank you for bringing this to my attention! I’m going to look that study up. And I really am feeling the limits of trying to scale up, even at this new level.

Do they have Chip drop or something like that there? My flower farm is also just a supplemental income for kids shoes, activities they want to do and so on. we are moving to a more rual area and we don't have a truck BUT we are super lucky because we have moved to an area full of people who are super kind and want to help at the drop of a hat. Even when I picked up straw at the store a lady laughed at my not farm car (I drive a Subaru ascent, set up for off-roading.) She offered to drive it to my property if I was on her side of town. I mean I felt that was a super nice thing to offer if I had been on her side of town. Can you make your own compost? I am thinking I may make mine with straw since that is available in abundance in our new location.

@@FaeHavenFlowers what is chip drop? We’re starting to make more of our own compost, but it’s not enough yet.

@@ShiftingRoots It is a way to sign up for free mulch from arborists. You could also call local arborists and let them know they can dump off a load on your property. Here in the US they end up taking it to the dump and having to pay to do that so they would much rather dump it off at someone's house instead of having to pay to get rid of it. This will 100% help with costs and weed suppression. Some people use mulch in their compost as well. Anne of all trades has a video on that.

@@radmilamiljanic5977 don’t worry at all! They will all be sort of spur of the moment until I get into a good routine.
