When I was younger, we had a mobile vacation home which had a hotpoint washer variant made in early 1980s, and I would lift the lid, stick a butter knife in the switch and watch it go, eventually we got a new mobile home and the washer went with it because it was just too far gone in broken parts. We got a new washer and scrapped the old one. Man the memories. The humming during wash just makes me miss that thing

Nice washer! This will definitely outlast any modern pile of junk washer manufactured these days

I definitely remember these washers from the laundromats back in the days. I love the sound of these washers. I'm not too fond of today's washers except for the Speed Queen, and the Maytag Commercial washers....I'm Eric by the way and I have been viewing washer videos since 2016. I only made two recordings of the Wascomat senior washer and that was it but I continued on viewing and subscribing to other washer videos including this one. Nice video and nice washer 👍 keep up the good work.

I agree Speed Queen is one of the only modern day washers (top load specifically) that I do like although the ones with the stationary tubs do a little bit better than the ones that have a rotating tub which reminds me of the Frigidaire Gallery top loaders

@@jonathanashbeck3740 Yes especially the TC5 models. I like the TC5 and its washing performance. The TR series is very much like the he washers that only swish the clothes around.

I had one of these, but a 1984 Extra Large Capacity !! Gone are the days of enamel finishes

This is when GE made quality appliances. These machines were work horses and they actually cleaned your clothes using enough water.

This is also one of the last GE Filter Flos ever made. They made the ones designed a bit cheaper in 1995 too I believe. Those “chug chug” GEs came out in the 90’s.

Thanks for the videos! I love the sound of the tapping of the cabinet at fast speed. I'd like to hear it when you start out soft then get loud in a long drum roll recording on the washer. It's very cool sounding.

Those pauses aren't intended as soak periods. The pauses before spin are required for the motor to completely stop so it can reverse direction. The pauses are longer than necessary due mechanical design of the timer. The pause before rinse agitation ... the timer doesn't run during the rinse fill, it starts when the target fill level is reached and the contacts on the water lever switch close. The timer must advance a bit to engage the motor contacts for agitation.

Yes I'm quite familiar with the mechanical side of these machines. I just label them as a Soak in the video description.

The long spray rinse that starts early on Perm Press first spin is a cool down so clothes aren't compressed and wrinkled while hot or warm. It apparently by starting early also keeps the first spin from reaching full speed due to drag from the water not fully draining out of the tub. A cool down isn't needed if Perm Press clothes are washed in cold water.

You made some sentence errors. Here’s the correct formal writing: “It apparently happens by starting early,
which also keeps the first Spin cycle from reaching full speed.”

I love the sound of the drum roll on the cabinet. I'd like to hear it when you start out soft then get loud when tapping on the cabinet fast with both hands. I'm Jerome Davis and I'm legally blind by the way. I do love washers and dryers and can identify by touch. I'd love to meet you. When I identify people, I can ID them by their hands and how they feel.

Without the filter flo these machines are very quiet. This was the last year for these classics. Nothing that followed were built as well or as durable as these were.
