EDIT June 2023: Looks like a few kind souls have preserved the original checkpoint and all of the comments here :) internetcheckpoint.page/ EDIT: Well my friends, it seems Nintendo has copyright claimed and taken down the original checkpoint which… saddens me in a way I can’t quite articulate. But know this, there are other checkpoints out there, and there will certainly be more in the future. It wasn’t the song that made the checkpoint, it was the people who visited it. The willingness to share our stories and take a deep breath amongst strangers. If you’re reading this, your story is not over and there will be other save stations along the way. Thank you for watching and thank you for being your own main character :) ORIGINAL COMMENT: Hey guys! For those of you asking why I didn’t link to the original video in the description, it’s to preserve the integrity of checkpoint. It’s not meant to be searched for or linked to, it’s meant to be stumbled upon. It finds you. Can you technically search for it based on screenshots from my video? Yes. (I probably should have blurred stuff in hindsight.) But if you haven’t been there before, I promise it’ll mean so much more to you if you find it spontaneously. Thanks for watching ❤️
I feel like it's worth mentioning, that, as someone who has made it to both, there are 2 check-points, and getting to the second one feels even better then the first, and I thank you for keeping the integrity of both.
@@Dark_Peace That very channel has uploaded multiple pieces of the DKC2 soundtrack, all with zoomed-out backgrounds from levels that played that track.
@@mireillethelongricot4845 Wait, what's the second one. Ive gone to the first multiple times, but what is the second one, also music, or something else?
I was going to leave another checkpoint just now. A fellow main character, leaving a second note for the world. Seems Nintendo doesn't care about us main characters. We'll have to find a new game to play.
It feels more like a memory card was broken or lost. You where supposed to be able to return to those files at your leisure, but because one bully had a hammer, now hundreds of hours of work is down the drain. Because those where checkpoints. People made the conscious decision to save their files, only for it all to be torn away by the greed of people who frankly had no business putting their hands on our stuff.
Thinking of it like that really gets me... Unlike a game, we have to continue onward, you can't just step away from life and come back when you're ready.
Eventually Retribution will occur and nintendo themselves will be hit with copyright (Also rare still owns the classic games so nintendo can't copystrike it)
Sadly, as of a few weeks ago, this checkpoint, along with similar ones, have been taken down by Nintendo. All of the checkpoints, gone. All of their stories return to the unforgiving abyss. I feel nothing but dread.
By the way, I stumbled upon this video about 3 months before this was posted, the comment section was indeed, really wholesome and unlike other. Funny thing was, as I was writing my checkpoint, my computer crashed and I couldn't find the video/restore session didn't work. Guess I'm not the main character or *THERE'S NO CHECKPOINT IN MY DIFFICULTY* EDIT: The video has graced me again by appearing in the recommendeds, I was finally able to write a checkpoint.
@@amyalcorn2032 Is it possible to change difficulty during gameplay? I don't wanna lose my progress and start all over. Also hard mode seems pre unbalanced to me, events are likely to screw you up and always negates the good events. Most of your options is locked out here too, I wanna speedrun easy mode instead.
@@mrmnsky4614 /sorry but as someone who is playing hard mode, there's no way to get out. Don't worry, I know someone who's a hard mode veteran, they said you'll get to the checkpoint eventually, and there's a super cool NPC that gives you free buffs once you get there.
The most important thing I've learned today: I'm not a main character. I guess that explains why I only repeat the same two to three sentences no matter what people say to me.
@@sashathedonut it’s not unavailable, the question mark and exclamation mark are from a Japanese keyboard, that’s why searching “! ?” doesnt provide the video, you’d need to search it using the proper characters.
I have that video popped out my home page before but I never check the comment but now Im here I search that video again, does that make me a playable side character?
Thats why when i play role play games, i mostly side characters, cause if the random person i meet needs help, im always there as their side character, i love my people
Checkpoint: Finally worked up the confidence to start applying for internships. Still scared for life irl, but it’s a step in the right direction at least.
Man, what a weird and oddly inspiring piece of internet phenomenon. Makes me wonder if there are / how many more videos with similar vibes are scattered across the place . . .
TravenTalks I wonder the same! I know the lyric video of “Shelter” by Porter Robinson has a dude who literally writes a comment a day on it. It’s basically his dairy. There has to be so many undiscovered little things like that across TH-cam haha
Yes there is an avatar video like this that is titled "everything is connected". Everyone in the comment section was talking about enlightment and being the chosen one, i was very confused.
I remember I once stumbled into a video like this. I don't know if I should name it even though it is impossible to get there without knowing exactly what to type, but yup, it's one of those videos that find you, not the other way around
"Stories are important, and not just for entertainment purposes, or even for finding something to relate to. Stories are reconstructions of our past, the way we make sense of ourselves and everything that's happened to us up to this point." You say this as Winry's gun scene from Fullmetal Brotherhood plays in the background. You just got a subscriber
I clicked on this video and as soon as I heard the music and saw the thumbnail I started tearing up and got insane goosebumps.. I got this video recommended to me a few months ago at 9am when I was sat in the coffee shop at my college waiting for my friends to get out of their maths lessons. It was a super normal day in every way but this video made me feel a strange sense of gratitude I guess? I'd only been going to college for a few months and it was the happiest and most free I'd ever felt, I had amazing friends and I was finally learning about things I was actually interested in. This video kinda made me think about all of that, and it stuck with me since.
I don’t think you have to wait for the video to come up in your recommended, you just have to go into it with the right mindset. After watching this video the first time, I went looking and found it. And it helped me a lot. I think that finding your video about the checkpoint is like seeing a road sign for the checkpoint, and who ever needs it can follow that sign.
"We are the stories we tell ourselves". I had always considered this thought to be one soley on perception and projecting, but I hadn't seriously considered the viability of the 'fake it till you make it' part of self narritive story telling. I need to take a load off and just write.
you...never found those videos? as a huge vocaloid fan youtube recommends me these obscure japanese videos and those vocaloid songs with no name and they always have that kind of comments
Yeah. They just don't know abt that side of yt. There's also those videos with no and or minimalist title by a channel with no name and people comment on them as if they're in on something when they aren't. It's kind of irritating.
@@ayacyte443 oh i definitely have a feeling i know which mvs ur talking about LMAO i agree with ur point (cant be a *secret* cult if it got recommended to every recs page ever) but i guess the extra effort to search the video when all that was available were blanks made it a pretty fun game to play
While I would agree about this for the average person, if someone reached a difficult point in their life, then suddenly saw this video about it, shouldn't it be considered as discovering the original video? Maybe even fated discovery? TH-cam recommendation system should not have monopoly on fate. [Edit: its -> their, some clarifications]
@@DarylTalksGames Maybe you should've censored the title and channel? Anyone who can read and type katakana can easily search for it, and this intent wasn't really communicated clearly in the video or description. I didn't know your intent behind not providing the link and thought it was an oversight, so I went and linked it here. I'll remove that comment now.
This actually changed my mindset about how we view life and the fact that we can change our story and become the main character in control of our circumstances. When I found the original video last year it was strange but interesting and this video just explained the phenomenon in a really entertaining and educational way. I would only add that the fact that they're playing nostalgic music that has us reminisce on our past and feel good lends itself well to reflecting on our current lives as well so it makes sense to me that people would share their stories in the comments and write positive messages. Even if it's a joke it seems like a natural fit with the nostalgic music, I personally reflect on my life every time I listen to old games music
The checkpoint got recommended to me months ago, right before midterms in december. Seeing this video reminded me of it after i had forgotten for ages. Looking back at what i’ve been through since then, i definitely am a main character. The checkpoint helped me realize that, and it changed the way i treated myself and others. I got recommended this video as well. I think it’s a sign that I needed to look back again.
Main character of what? How many main characters can there be? Do you believe your life is more valuable than others? Are you a successful person making ground breaking changes in the world? Do you not eat or sleep? What have you done to prove to yourself that you're a main character besides gaining weight and watching TH-cam videos all day?
Eric Gutierrez Thanks for the reply, eric. In this situation people are main characters of their own stories. From my understanding if a person is a main character they don’t normally see others as main characters, but i’m sure there can be more than one if you’re seeing this video. We (or at least i) do not believe my/our live(s) to be superior to other people, as they may be the main characters of their own stories that we don’t understand. Main characters don’t have to do something special to be main characters-they just feel as though their life seems like a story. We all eat and sleep, like anyone else, although now i’m concerned, do you know people that don’t eat or sleep? And for your final question, that reaches into some deeply personal issues but for sake of argument i will summarize that: Around freshman year of high school, i struggled with eating problems, depression and suicidal thoughts. I wasn’t getting out of the house. These issues peaked last fall and by the time i saw the video mentioned here, i was having a lot of trouble just waking up in the morning. I saw the video after studying 8 hours straight for midterms. When i read through the comments of that video i realized that i wasn’t alone, and that what i was feeling was okay, and that things would get better. Seeing these comments helped my resolve and it was a long journey to recovery but, through lots of therapy and talking to my parents and friends, i decided that i was tired of living life like it was a burden. Since last December i’ve had some of the best experiences of my life because i was no longer afraid of my own pain and struggles, i’ve repaired a once totally broken relationship with my family, and i’ve made friends to last a lifetime, all because i decided that my story, my journey, was to become the best person i could be. So no, i was not sitting on the couch. and i don’t know if you genuinely were curious or if you just want to make fun of someone finally feeling better, but here are your answers. Happy i could help.
I don’t think you need to justify this video even if it’s not directly related to video games, you found it interesting and are clearly creative enough to make it interesting! We come here for you at the end of the day after all
i just found this video, id had it appear on my feed once before, but let it get lost in the endless swiping of social media algorithms just tonight, i had it appear again (more like a copy, but it has the same spirit) and i was finally able to create my own checkpoint although its a small thing, it feels like i was able to leave a small mark that may be seen by someone, someday, even though in my mind of minds i know it will be lost in the other 100k comments its a weird feeling, not entirely comforting or healing, but it doesnt feel like a finality as so many things do. with everything else on youtube, each video feels like a one and done, move on to the next. but with this internet checkpoint, it really feels like a rest stop before you continue on the rest of your journey, not quite the end, and yet youve no doubt come further than you even realized before you looked back and noticed. i hope to see the video appear in my feed again sometime next year
can’t believe nintendo deleted that video.. I remember finding it a while ago and had no idea what it was or even anything about the checkpoint, but i recognized the soundtrack. Everyone sharing those moments of their lives in the comments was pretty amazing, it’s sad it’s all gone now.
Hey Daryl, i have to say that this format kinda different might help me, a Lot of your videos helps in different ways and Ive been trying to show my gf, but she is not interested in games and normally dismisses it, with this format she might actually watch and take some conclusions. So keep in mind that change might have actually helped someone
Glad to hear it man! I know the channel is about games technically, but I do like going off the beaten path from time to time if it’s interesting enough
You know, that makes sense. During the worst year of my life I started writing FanFic. I, not a self insert but really me, was the main character of the story and they went on a journey through all the worlds of the stories I loved. In a time when I felt the most powerless, I was the hero of a story of my own creation. Even when the story no longer became about me, I was still the main character. Just wanted to share my 2 cents as this video hit close to home.
Hey Daryl, thanks. I'm starting my career as a psychologist and i've developed good insights thanks to your vids and reflections; you're helping me to become a better professional and to help people. Thanks again. I hope you keep the good work!
When it came to the study about ego development, is that not a given? If a person is happy/accepting from the get go, there is not as much room to grow, because they are already in a higher growth position. The parents that were initially sad but grew accepting 2 years later of course had greater "ego development" because they started from a lower level to grow into their higher acceptance or ego level.
I think maybe the point he was trying to make is that they weren’t at that point of happiness and acceptance and felt like they had to lie about how much finding out you’re going to have a kid with special needs (or whatever the scenario was) sucks - they felt some pressure to suppress some real emotions because they were too painful to deal with or maybe because they wanted to put on a front and feel better about themselves (“Look how well I’m handling this shitty news” etc.)
@MageBurger "Always" is a scary word to use. I believe there is no such thing as 0% and no such thing as 100%. I am usually close to 99% happy, and 99% accepting, but I would not say always. It is a far cry from where I was only 10 years ago where I was maybe around 50% accepting but close to 1% happy. But I agree that there is always something we can relate to. Same hardware is 90+% true, but not completely as well. But we do generally start off from the same place.
What is their point? And why is there a need to prove them something? If anything, these comments prove that games helped them grow, or they are just sharing their stories with that game and how much of an impact it had on their childhood and life. I don't see a problem with sharing this stuff on the internet.
"Day 642, I am still trapped in this world. The changes I try to bring to this world don't last. I chop down trees, they grow back in a day or two. I talk to the.. people.. here. Most seem unable to hear me, and prattle off nonsense in reply. I have taken to carrying an axe at all times, after finding one of the townspeople in my basement, after coming back from the store.."
This video made me very emotional... it’s gorgeously put together, but also as someone who’s wanted to go into the psychology of storytelling since they were 10, this resonated with me so much. The idea of all these people finding a little place for themselves at the edge of the internet and sharing stories with one another is such a beautiful one
A family member of mine passed away yesterday due to Covid-19 and I have newfound motivation to get my life together. It reminds me that life is precious and uncertain and I am grateful for everything people have given me and all the support I've gotten in regards to other aspects of my life or projects that have yet to be finished. I will be working to get more positive and change my life for the better. If y'all read this, you too can get through this hellhole of a year and I believe in you. We all have a part to play in getting our lives back to normal and I just pray that no more lives need to be sacrificed to achieve that. Well, that's all. Have a good day :)
Can I ask if the family member died of covid as the only factor? Or if they had pre-existing condition or any health problems or asthma type issues before hand? Not to minimise this shit time for you and your family, I honestly just wanted to know people's lives experiences with Covid because I'm having terrible trouble trusting my media.
Oh my goodness I remember that video! I also ones stumbled across it and I left feeling confused, but now that I watched this video I understand why it had so many views. It's also amazing how because of conformity people stared telling stories about them self and telling how they feel. Great video as always Daryl! 5/15/20 Finland
Man I was wondering if people watching this had come across it before! I’m excited to see if more people comment that they’re familiar with it. Thanks so much Aaron :)
@@DarylTalksGames I actually found the vid a super long time ago because I was looking for a decent version of Stickerbush Symphony. I don't recall the comments being the way they are now. It's now in the recommended videos sidebar and shows my previously watched progress.
I've been to the checkpoint well before this was posted. It's bitter sweet to see it recognized publicly, since a big novelty of finding it is the feeling of finding something hidden. But it's nice to see it get recognition
Fascinating video, I was also thinking about this, a few months ago I so happened to find myself in a video with also a weird trend in the comment section. The video in question is "Inner Universe (full song) " a song used in the opening of the anime Ghost in the Shell stand alone complex. By going through the comment section I realized every comment or at least the vast majority was "I'm commenting here everyday to prove that this song will never die'' or something along those lines. By reading more I got to the conclusion that the reason was to remember the vocalist of the song, that passed away. You can see if you scroll down or if you sort by newest comments, people are still commenting everyday the same sentence, and I felt that I found a fascinating place on a corner of the internet that nobody told me about. I feel this kind of stuff could be anywhere and we just need to stumble upon it.
Hey Daryl, I just want to say this video and your analysis has been a source of comfort to me in these few months of feeling overwhelmed by the collective distress and pain the world is going through. Perhaps finding this video is a small internet checkpoint of my own. Save.
I love watching your videos because usually they help me in a way I can't explain properly. Your voice, coupled with the soundtracks you use and the sincerity you talk about everything with is calming on a bone-deep level. The way you explain real-life issues, phenomena and ways of thinking, the way you in a way explain life itself through gaming and internet checkpoints will never cease to amaze me. And perhaps the one thing that grabs me is that, after the magic is done you always find a way to finish the video in a positive, hopeful light. It inspires me and gives me the motivation to go on, that everything will be alright in the end. All that said - this is the video I go back to the most. Whenever I am stuck in life or don't have the motivation to do anything, I somehow always get back to that video to gather my wits. Checkpoint: It's the end of the school year. I have two more months and no motivation to do anything yet so much more needs to be done. My friends have problems I can't help with, my social battery is drained and I am anxious about multiple things at all times. It's a random Saturday morning and I decide I really need to tidy up my room for some semblance of control and because I know I will feel better with a cleaner space. "A few weeks ago I found myself wandering..."
Really, really loved this video, and I have two things I want to tell you: 1. I don't recommend Duolingo for its Japanese course, as it just kinda throws things at you to memorize. 2. Somewhere out there, there is a literally unsearchable Japanese video with no title. The only way to see it is in your recommended.
I was sent on a trip through those videos. Going through recommended videos all under that user and the comments were FULL of checkpoints/uplifting reminders to keep going. Those filled my day with joy and community. We were all experiencing the same thing. A collectively conscious sharing experience.
this is just me being nit-picky, but the title of the video says “toge” not “toke” 「け」(ke) is altered by a 点々 (tenten) which changes the pronunciation of ke to ge 「げ」 otherwise great video :))
Duolingo really sucks man. After 4 months of Japanese lessons, you should know that it's 'ge' not 'ke'. I'm not hating on Daryl but the Duolingo learning process just doesn't work at all to me.
Bardis Aythen same, i’ve been learning japanese for 8 mo. at a real class and i’ve learned way more than i ever could on duolingo. 10/10 would recommend
@@vvvvia Fellow student here :) I've been studying Japanese in university for the last year and I'd suggest looking up "MIA Japanese", it's a dope method and it made me able to read novels in Japanese and see movies without subtitles in basically four months, while it would've taken me three years of uni to get there. Hope it can help you as well!
I spent a lot of timing "going through the motions" on full auto-pilot when I should have let myself feel. It's easy to become lost in the white noise of it all. I hope telling you helps break the cycle. You are loved, it does get better. ❤
Checkpoint: I became enlightened. I became open to myself, my habits, my tendency towards conformity. I vowed to change on this day. To be my own person. To call out haters like Daryl sneaking horns down in his video. Everchange
Checkpoint: I've always had problems of self worth and self respect, and over the last year I decided to start thinking of myself as the main character of this story. It's helped to make me think of myself as important. I didn't realize internet checkpoints, or thinking of yourself as the main character was common or a thing until just now, so it's a peculiar coincidence that I happened to come across this I think.
Great for you man, it's up to you to create meaning for yourself and to love yourself. None else can do it for you and it's good you think of yourself in this positive way
Just remember that the NPC's will say the same thing to you no matter what, good or bad. Live for yourself, and remember the goals you set while you were still new to the game. Make yourself proud.
I found that video about a year ago, and it's been steadily recommended to people since about around then. It's really a great video comment section, and the rest of the creator's videos seem to have people continuing the checkpoint tradition as well.
It’s a bit funny because you (this channel) was recommended to me because if the psych aspect I’m assuming because of my search history but I was also confused because I don’t play video games. I watch people play them, idk why I fine that fun but I have no interest in playing them myself. Probably a way to connect to my brother and later all my male friends at first. Anyway, I love the way you write and how you speak, it’s comforting and reassuring no matter what you’re talking about. Always making it extremely interesting probably helps, but things are written with such fluidity that it’s hard to feel anything short of lost within the narratives. Adding small breaks, sometimes fourth wall breaks where you’ll cut to you doing something as a real person and not a voice over, always comes at a time where it doesn’t disengage; but humanizes the experience. Very long way to say your videos are wonderful and captivating to larger audience than the gaming community and I hope things on here turn out extremely well for you. Also, I’m planning on buying Gris this week, so I think you’ve got me interested in playing a video game. I certainly have the intention too. Lots of love and thank you for this comfortable corner of the internet ♥️
Hey thank you so much for that! I have so much fun making these and it bring a huge grin to my face when someone truly enjoys them or finds watching to be a comfy experience :) you definitely should give games a try! Not every genre is for everyone, but I believe there is a game out there for everyone, just gotta find what you like. Thanks for watching!
Funnily enough, this video is a bit of a checkpoint for me. Been struggling with a bit of depression due to some personal occurrences, but I've been on a binge of these videos because I found one in my recommended. Thanks for providing some content that lets me feel these emotions while still trying to find answers for why, while also tying it into one of my favorite hobbies: gaming.
I stumbled on it myself. It tugged at my heart in ways I can't even begin to describe. Plato and Rosseau were right. People really are inherently good. ❤️
There is a phrase that I have heard some times in the past that says "A million of people can't be wrong", but then I question, that million of people knows about the topic? Were they influenced by another person or group of persons? Did they choose a option randomly or they were really giving an honest and informed opinion at the moment? Then I remember that study of a group of people indirectly forcing another person to choose the wrong answer and then I understand that a million of people is more used to be wrong.
I mean, i'm sure there's more than a milion of people who think videogames are garbage, and in the past we had milion of people thinking that the sun orbited around the earth. One million people is a really small number, we have more than six thousands "millions of people" on Earth. And in the past the whole humanity was proven wrong more than once...
This is why I love the lofi community on youtube, they're all so kind and they make even large comment sections a safe place :), and you feel like the main character while studying or relaxing
This video guided me to the checkpoint, which became the first time I opened up about my PTSD and mental health struggles. The checkpoint taught me to open up. If I hadn't watched this video, I never would have sought out therapy I desperately needed. Things got dangerously dark for me last year and I likely wouldn't have been able to make it through if I still wasn't able to reach out.
Aw man, this brought back memories. I got recommended the checkpoint a few years ago. I had no clue what it was, it just showed up cause i listened to a lot of vocaloid and watched a lot of gaming stuff. Huh. Feels good to know what it is, now.
0:40 Always nice to see someone making the effort to learn Japanese buuuut that's とげ(toge) not とけ(toke) I'd recommend learning hiragana and katana on your own before using duolingo.
@@umbrellaeyethingguy4665 I'm taking lessons with an online teacher, in one month I already knew all the hiragana including the "ge" one. Stuff like duolingo kiinda help but it's much better to get a teacher.
I remember exactly where I was when I suddenly stumbled upon this checkpoint. I saw the Checkpoints in the comment section and being INCREDIBLY confused, assuming it was some internet reference I didn't catch, and then I moved on without leaving anything behind. Someday, I might stumble upon it again, but I definitely don't plan on seeking it out. I ignored a save point, I should just wait until the next one, eh?
Have never heard of the Internet Checkpoint. This was such good coverage of it, too. I've gone through struggles over the past few years in learning to reframe my story in a more positive light. It's difficult for me not to imagine the most catastrophic worst-case scenario when I try to make decisions, but there's some comfort in finding out that growth and wisdom can come from reversing that perspective. It's come to me, so I can attest that change can happen bit by bit - even if it seems slow and it's terribly difficult, it'll come. Thanks for this video and the accompanying psych info, definite sub. To other random comment readers, hang tough! We're none of us alone.
I'm pretty sure the internet checkpoint saved my life a few years ago. I was in a very dark place after the suicide and deaths of a couple of my closest friends. That video comforted me so much.
Today I finally got recommended the video, couldn't be happier, letting it come to you is definitely like magic, my recommendation is sharing this video to your friends and I think that sort of gives you a little push in the odds of it finding you, never look for it though, let it find you.
That channel came in my recommendation recently and a guy in one of the reply of a comment send the link to this video saying that it explains about the checkpoint and I was not disappointed. Great job on this video :)
I started crying/teared up and got insane overwhelming feelings of i want to say closure? in the middle of this when he said “main characters” and how finding this video could in a sense be all that. The reaosn is because I clicked on this video the first time and was bullshitting on my phone not paying attention then I looked up and was getting ready for work and heard something about ego’s way late in the video so I restarted it and watched this. I made the choices that led up to getting this video and I bullshitted and could’ve ignored it completely but I didn’t because I gave it a chance. It wasn’t random, things happen for a reason, and this just showed I’m not alone. I’m with you all and you all are with me in this journey and while we don’t know, we can feel and relate just through this. Idk, but I usually don’t comment on a lot but this one hit me hard cuz it’s definitely like the universe was telling me something. And what drives it home even more is that I few days ago I was feeling lost and I just went out in the snow and asked for the universe to tell me if I’m doing what I know to be right, and it just told me yes through this video. I felt something. Idk how to explain it, maybe this is just a long this no one will read, but I feel safe being able to express the feeling I just got. I guess this is a little checkpoint for me here, I haven’t seen the original yet and Dk if I’ll leave anything there. I just know I want to make the world a better place and this video and everything that got it to me is showing me I have that ability and to not quit. For anyone that made it this far, never quit.
Hey, Daryl, this was really a lovely video essay. This was exactly what I needed to hear right now. My career too a sharp right turn 7 years ago when I stopped tilting against my chosen windmills, and now I'm basically a punch clock either. I'm happier now, and I'm genuinely more present and helpful in my day to day work, which is great, but I keep feeling like I lost something important along the way. I think I've been ignoring the internal conflict. It's time for me to get back on the horse , analyze my benefits, my faults, my successes, my resources, and basically, do the hard work. Thank you for inspiring me.
I always find myself coming back to this video to make sense of why certain environments online seem to trigger that nostalgic "pause". Those seemingly designated "internet checkpoint" videos have since become delisted or removed, as I cannot find the original uploads anymore. I can always find substitutes and duplicates though, but those comments are likely lost in the archives of the internet of things and stuff. I want to compliment your video again. It's like a situation check of sorts.
This, and the don't go hollow have meant so much to me. My brother passed in 2018, but since he passed, I have reconnected with the love of gaming that i had as a child. I'm getting better at gaming, and trying my hand at harder and harder games. It helps me remember and honor him. I love that your channel connects two of my great loves, gaming and psych. Its been hard recently, but: checkpoint- I've beaten some of the hardest platforming games from my childhood, including all the levels in Spyro at 100%, all the levels in KH1 and 2, and Super Mario 3D world 100% including champions road by myself. I still love Zelda, and I've beaten all games in the series. I love my job. Even if times are rough, everyone can see how hard I'm trying, and my girls are happy. We can keep going.
I've never stumbled across this checkpoint, but occasionally this random piano cover of For Good pops up in my recommended. I've never liked it or saved it, but it always seems to find me when I'm at my lowest, when I need to remember how far I've come. It pops up, saying "This is where you were. This is where you are now. Look at how you've changed, how you've grown. Here are the people you've affected, and the people who have affected you. See how the lists overlap? You've experienced so much, and despite it all, or maybe because of it, it's still you." I don't normally comment on it, just because the comment section there is talking about other things, but it's still My Checkpoint. I like to listen to it and have a good cry, and think of where I've been and the friends I'll never meet again. Then, I think forward to where I am now and the future I'll see, and I feel hopeful again.
This happened to me a few days ago. I've been dealing with depression due to the loss of my girlfriend she passed away 3 months ago and a video popped up in my recommended titled "Its ok, Your Ok" and suddenly i felt a bit of relief.

EDIT June 2023: Looks like a few kind souls have preserved the original checkpoint and all of the comments here :) internetcheckpoint.page/
EDIT:
Well my friends, it seems Nintendo has copyright claimed and taken down the original checkpoint which… saddens me in a way I can’t quite articulate.
Thank you for watching and thank you for being your own main character :)
ORIGINAL COMMENT:
Hey guys!

Honestly the fact that the checkpoint is now gone is very poetic. Rest doesn’t last forever, and eventually you’ll have to move on
It feels more like a memory card was broken or lost.

"take care of yourselves, and have a damn good one"

And for your final question, that reaches into some deeply personal issues but for sake of argument i will summarize that:
Around freshman year of high school, i struggled with eating problems, depression and suicidal thoughts.
We come here for you at the end of the day after all
i just found this video, id had it appear on my feed once before, but let it get lost in the endless swiping of social media algorithms
just tonight, i had it appear again (more like a copy, but it has the same spirit) and i was finally able to create my own checkpoint
although its a small thing, it feels like i was able to leave a small mark that may be seen by someone, someday,
even though in my mind of minds i know it will be lost in the other 100k comments
its a weird feeling, not entirely comforting or healing, but it doesnt feel like a finality as so many things do.
with everything else on youtube, each video feels like a one and done, move on to the next.
but with this internet checkpoint, it really feels like a rest stop before you continue on the rest of your journey,
not quite the end, and yet youve no doubt come further than you even realized before you looked back and noticed.
i hope to see the video appear in my feed again sometime next year

Same, I remember finding it and it was weird. But I left a checkpoint anyways and never thought about it again until this video

@MageBurger Agreed; that is how I see it.
I found a lot of these stories on literally every single animal crossing music track video.
I talk to the.. people.. here.

2. Somewhere out there, there is a literally unsearchable Japanese video with no title. The only way to see it is in your recommended.
The title is actually something like ! or !!!
I was sent on a trip through those videos. Going through recommended videos all under that user and the comments were FULL of checkpoints/uplifting reminders to keep going. Those filled my day with joy and community. We were all experiencing the same thing. A collectively conscious sharing experience.
this is just me being nit-picky, but the title of the video says “toge” not “toke” 「け」(ke) is altered by a 点々 (tenten) which changes the pronunciation of ke to ge 「げ」
otherwise great video :))
Duolingo really sucks man. After 4 months of Japanese lessons, you should know that it's 'ge' not 'ke'. I'm not hating on Daryl but the Duolingo learning process just doesn't work at all to me.
Bardis Aythen
same, i’ve been learning japanese for 8 mo. at a real class and i’ve learned way more than i ever could on duolingo. 10/10 would recommend
@@vvvvia Fellow student here :)
I've been studying Japanese in university for the last year and I'd suggest looking up "MIA Japanese", it's a dope method and it made me able to read novels in Japanese and see movies without subtitles in basically four months, while it would've taken me three years of uni to get there. Hope it can help you as well!
You're a fucking weeaboo, shut up.
@@mikasaackermann8736 You have an anime pic
I spent a lot of timing "going through the motions" on full auto-pilot when I should have let myself feel. It's easy to become lost in the white noise of it all.
I hope telling you helps break the cycle. You are loved, it does get better. ❤
To this day, my favourite video and comment section of all time. So sad it’s gone.
Checkpoint: I became enlightened. I became open to myself, my habits, my tendency towards conformity. I vowed to change on this day. To be my own person. To call out haters like Daryl sneaking horns down in his video. Everchange
Checkpoint:
I've always had problems of self worth and self respect, and over the last year I decided to start thinking of myself as the main character of this story.
Oh god I remember writing a comment in that video! Such an insightful experience
Eae man, te encontrei em outro vídeo 1hora atrás
Henrique Nogueira qual?
I stumbled on it myself. It tugged at my heart in ways I can't even begin to describe. Plato and Rosseau were right. People really are inherently good. ❤️
"A discovery found at 3 AM when sleep evades you but hopelessness is at every turn." omg
We can also move to discuss morphogenetic field from there
This is why I love the lofi community on youtube, they're all so kind and they make even large comment sections a safe place :), and you feel like the main character while studying or relaxing
I'm obsessed with this video and concept. I keep coming back every few months to rewatch.
0:40 Always nice to see someone making the effort to learn Japanese buuuut that's とげ(toge) not とけ(toke)
I'd recommend learning hiragana and katana on your own before using duolingo.
You probably shouldn't use Duolingo period.
@@lunarstrom8160 On it's own, no.
@@reizayin any recomendations for alternatives?
@@umbrellaeyethingguy4665 I'm taking lessons with an online teacher, in one month I already knew all the hiragana including the "ge" one. Stuff like duolingo kiinda help but it's much better to get a teacher.
@@ALGOChannel I see, thank you
I know another one of these rabbit holes. Clair de lune is a piano arrangement seemingly so calming, people record their day to day life there.
I found the checkpoint videos around a year ago. I really needed them back then. Hearing you talk about it made me emotional.
I think I was one of the very few people actually searching for stickerbrush symphony and finding that video, lol.
I ignored a save point, I should just wait until the next one, eh?
it'll come to you when you're ready. Have a safe journey, until then. We will remember you
It vaguely pissed me off
It had the same feeling as
R/woooosh exept pretentious
Checkpoint: the original was deleted by Nintendo but. Save your progress?
Yes. No.
Yes.
It’s really unfortunate that in the last few months, that video was taken down (presumably for copyright). 😔
I won't search for the video, but instead, I'll let it come to me when I'm ready!
If you ever feel down, it will come
i searched a year ago but felt bad since i feel like it was cheating
i just got it recommended to me and finally left a checkpoint
「とげ」because of the two little lines (だくてん/dakuten) in the “ke” hiragana it actually becomes “toge”
great video otherwise!
ty someone else noticed
I guess I’m not a main character, but that’s alright. I don’t want that kind of responsibility. I’d rather just be a protagonist’s loyal friend.
Same
I'd rather play the deuteragonist, if I'm being honest. They're typically cooler than the protagonist anyways.
This video made me realize it’s spelt Sticker-BUSH, not Sticker-BRUSH.
I really loved this video. I feel like this type of comments also appear a lot on chill hop mixes and ambiance videos. I'm subscribing!
The person who made it probably wouldn't think that the comments would be this touching
I'm glad to see someone else also thought learning korean in less than 5 minutes (seriously) was something that they should click on...
You've experienced so much, and despite it all, or maybe because of it, it's still you."
I don't normally comment on it, just because the comment section there is talking about other things, but it's still My Checkpoint. I like to listen to it and have a good cry, and think of where I've been and the friends I'll never meet again. Then, I think forward to where I am now and the future I'll see, and I feel hopeful again.
I for sure am not the main character I’m not even apart of the narrative, I’m a nameless poorly drawn background character
It may not be about games but this is one of my favorite psych of play now!
This happened to me a few days ago. I've been dealing with depression due to the loss of my girlfriend she passed away 3 months ago and a video popped up in my recommended titled "Its ok, Your Ok" and suddenly i felt a bit of relief.
I've watched so many of your videos but this one was before I started as a regular on the channel. Thank you so much for making it. It was just the thing I needed today.
I've seen this in a soundtrack of being awake at 4AM.
Even I shared my experience about not finding motivation during summer.

You shut your beautiful mouth. I found you through this video. I just subscribed right after I wrote this comment. I like commentaries like this. Psychology has always fascinated me, maybe I should have taken it up on college. Though I kind of just drop by on random psychology stuffs and take with me the lessons that I found to be helpful whether for me or for someone I know.
