Hi!:) I've only just come across you on TH-cam.. You have an impressive sewing room.. Its very tidy and fibre free!! My green eyed monster is drooling with envy right now as I'm using the dining room and table for now. :( I'm constantly wiping and vacuuming and its such a pain having to pack away all of the time, especially when I'm making covid masks as well as my usual projects and requests from family, neighbours and friends... Isn't it amazing how many people request things when they know you sew!! One thing I was surprised you don't have is a a suitable top on your cutting table thats padded and heat protective so you can iron too.. Amazingly helpful, and speeds up the process especially when making big items and soft furnishings, for pressing, measuring and pinning. It also stops the fabric slipping and sliding, which I don't know about you but I find terribly frustrating!! Mine is made of 3 pieces of ply (maybe 10-15mm thick) that are covered in thick batting (oven glove insulating lining is ideal) and a decent weight cotton fabric on top as your ironing/work surface.. Mine is packed away at the moment so can't attach a photo which I know would be helpful and save my attempting to explain!!! (Shoddily I might add!!) I usually use 3 pieces of ply the width I want the 'table' and each a third of the length so it isnt too heavy or big too move and can be folded which makes it wayyyy easier to store... Hope you don't mind my suggestion, and think I'm being disrespectful.. Sorry for my essay, I didnt want it to be so long but couldn't think of a way to explain in a shorter way! Anyway, stay safe and take care.. Oh, and happy sewing!!!x
I rarely comment on YT videos, but this video compelled me to do so. This is an incredible sewing room. A lot of great ideas I'm going to use in my space. Thank you for taking the time to let us in your sewing room and for mentioning where you found the cutting tables.
Now that's a dream sewing room. It's spacious and beautiful. I remember many years ago, cutting through 2 of my bed sheets and a spread, then moving to my dinning table, now I have my cutting table and cutting board, plus some organization. Sewing is creativity at best. Thanks for sharing Mimi G.
I used to store my notions in a draw next to my machines but had to move them because my youngest child got into the buttons one day and posted them into my sewing machine! No damage done but I did decide to keep all the notions in a collapsible zip up container in the Ikea wardrobe I had to house my stash - I still have it but our house was damaged in the recent cyclone so I cannot use the sewing room right now. I'm looking to revamp the sewing room for once we can move back into our house in order to make it a little more functional. I love that having a separate space can allow the creativity to flow and I miss my sewing space.
Actually, your iron music box is playing the finale of « Swan lake », a ballet from Piotr Ilich TCHAIKOVSKY. 🎶 Of course, they used the music in « Black Swan », the film based on this ballet, with Nathalie PORTMAN and a French actor : Vincent CASSEL. Your sewing room is so wonderful and, oh my god you’re soooo organized !!!! 🤩🤩🤩😍😍😍👍🏾👏🏾 Thanks a lot Mimi, for this video and all the other ones. 🙏🏾 You’re a real gift for us, trying-to-reach-a-higher-level-while-keeping-it-cheerful-sewists ! ❤️❤️❤️
I'm inspired to get my grandma's sewing room all cleaned up again. Last time my bf and I built 2 sewing stations and I organized most of her fabrics. My grandmother has quite the collection. 😅 She wont get rid of anything, and many people keep giving her loads more! I've learned to embrace all her stuff, and this go around, I look forward to making her space work even better without changing things up too much. 😉 Thanks for the video. It's been helpful!
I love it. My husband sews as well. He is so messy and he don’t clean up after his self. He took all of my things that l had in containers labeled and dumped them in a big box. I was heated so heated that it scared him. He puts everything in a box with no labels. He uses my thing and never buy his own and swear he bought it. I’m glad that you and hubby work well together, that’s key, true that!
I love your energy! I'm very happy I found your channel! Im a new sewer and I feel so happy and nothing else matters when im sewing and in my element I wish to one day have a sewing room like you! 💕
i was just surfing TH-cam and found your channel. at 60 years old i found you to be so adorable, a grandmothers dream ! i had to join you and your family and see what you had to offer the world, can't wait to watch you videos. Happy New Year dear and look forward to spending hours watching you. God Bless you all. Granny
Me too! just got back to sewing after years of not having the time or space. Your organizational skills are amazing! This was the first of your videos that I've watched. Looking forward to seeing your sewing -
Thank you Mim for sharing, I just turned my “Scrapbook Room” into my “Sewing Room” and I am also a IKEA crack-head!!! All of my shelving and table comes from IKEA. Thanks for the pattern idea. God Bless
I love your sewing room! I have a second bedroom that I'm converting to a sewing room! Ikea is the best for furnishing a sewing space, everything has been from Ikea in every seeing rom I've had for the past 15 yrs! Thank you so much for the tour! I'm inspired and am sharing this with my Mom who also sews and will soon be transforming a second bedroom at her house!!!
I am in love with your sewing room. This summer we plan on building my She Shed in the backyard. We have a huge backyard so I want a good size she shed for my sewing area. I desperately need one. I currently store everything in the garage, and bring crap into the dinning room when I'm ready to sew. Its a hassle. So I need my She Shed. And your video gave me lots of ideas. Love your space.
So funny, I just organized my patterns exactly the same way. Makes it so much easier. I crested labels on a spreadsheet that I saved on my phone so if I'm out I can see if I've already purchased it before.
You are a lucky lady to have such a fabulous sewing room. When we purchased our home 32 years ago, my ONLY requirement was I had to have my own room for sewing. I still have my IKEA table from 32 years ago, but you have given me inspiration to buy a new one. All my family members know “Don’t touch my sewing scissors EVER!!”. As a high school graduation gift, my parents gave me a pair of Singer shears with my name engraved on the blade. My new husband used them to cut speaker wire and almost sent us to divorce court.
Over 2000 patterns! Really! Wow! And I thought my little 60 patterns were a lot.🙄 MiMi I am so proud of you and glad to see you're still winning! Love how you do you!😍
Thank you so much for your U tube channel. I have always liked to sew but felt cramped in my small living space. I now see it can be done in any space if arranged well. I do have enough room for what I dream to do. I don't have very many fabric stores in my town but I can make it an adventure seeking fabric stores in other towns. Watching your videos always gets me excited about sewing and creating. Again thank you for showing excitement about what you do and ideas that I never had the confidence to explore. You're so inspiring.
My sew sister sent me a link to your most recent tour and I absolutely love your sewing space (and your fun ponytails)! I, like you, believe in starting and finishing with a neat/tidy space. I just went through my first fabric purge after accepting that I was an organized hoarder and didn't want to allow my fabric and crafting stuff to take over any more rooms of my house. My study is now my sewing studio and my formal living room became my fabric room by using the cubes from IKEA. If I may offer a suggestion that can potentially make your life (or that of your assistant) a bit easier. If she starts a Excel spreadsheet with your patterns that haven't been filed away, she can create a merge document and print labels instead of handwriting them all on the envelope and it's another way of being able to quickly search your pattern inventory by number, maker, type, etc. Thank you again for sharing you space, energy and joy of sewing!
What a great light, bright and inviting space. I'm jealous of the size and very impressed with your organization! You've given some great ideas!!! I love the idea that you surround yourself with things that make you happy - as it should be. Thanks for sharing :)
Love to hear that you like to clean your sewing room before starting a new project. I always do the same even to the point or organizing drawers etc. I do it quickly but I do it. Others think I'm nuts. My space is certainly not nearly as clean as your but its also not as large. Right now i currently have 3 projects going at the same time and stuff is strewn all over and it is beginning to drive me NUTS!
Oh my gosh this looks so nice! I am in the process of moving fabric into my new sewing room after a 2 year delay. (long story) I have two of those IKEA cube cabinets quickly filling with fabric. I seriously have to purge, especially when I hear myself say "why would I even buy this?"!!! You also have me second guessing my cutting table; yours looks so sleek & clean!! Thanks for the tour!
I used to have a music box with a ballarina that played that same melody. Your sewing room is amazing. I have a very small one. I always wanted to set up a pattern system some what like yours but never have been able to. Congratulations on your organization and beautiful room! 🎉
Hi! I’m a seamstress by many years but not so much now. I’ve been an addicted fabric purchaser as you doing now at that time and yes you buy fabric you never use. I also use to work part time at a very large fabric store to get fabric discounts for the essentials items I wanted in my sewing area. Had a friend to make me a giant sewing table with let down sides but much larger then the one in the store I work for. Yes I’ve cut out on the bed, kitchen table etc. But all this to say I just love your sewing area. I’ve been dabbing a little again with sewing again along with my cricut craft machine and wreaths creation in my workroom (not as large as your but ok). It’s also wonderful your husband share in your craft. Just happen by your video on TH-cam but will watch more now. Bye🧵
Hi Mimi G Style. this is my first time to watch your video. I was amazed and inspired. I will serve you as one of inspiration to pursue my dream since I've learn to sew. I am already 48yrs old and i am still dreaming that kind of sewing room. Congratulations Mimi. thank you for the INSPIRING VIDEO.
I love your sewing room! I can't wait till I have a bigger space to organize mine in such a way, so beautiful! My question is, what do you do with all the garments you create? Do you keep them all, gift them, donate them, store them in some way like an archive? I have a hard time of letting go of things I make but there's no space for ALL of it 😋
I love your style your work your outfits are amazing I just started sewing I want to save maybe four years ago I'm 55 years old I've always done crafty things but now getting into even more with sewing and stuff I'm loving it and you were the first person I started watching on TH-cam and I'm loving it
Your tour of your sewing room was fun to see how you organize your tools, fabric, and share your space with your husband. I just love your cutting tables. What are the dimensions of the cutting tables?
Okay I love the idea of the butcher block (counter) table top... may I ask the length and the width? I've been looking for something like this that I can put my husband to work on. 😊
@@vanessanichole08 I can see those are Ikea's GERTON adjustable legs.... but the butcher block not sure; but using that 72 inch KALLAX/Expedit behind her as a reference measure.... those tables look to be around 30 inches wide by 60 inches long.
Really enjoyed this video. I just bought a new house and will finally have a dedicated sewing room. I, too, have only sewn on the kitchen table and put everything away. Your space is beautiful. I wish I were as neat as you.
I must develop my happy place cause I love to sew and create Right now I use a Kitchen table so you done kno 😒. I love your sewing space and how organized it is. I must get proper florescent light
I also used to buy pretty fabrics and ended up donating them. Then I would just buy as I need. Now in quarantine, I’m pulling out what I have on hand and making good use of it!
You have done an Amazing Job on this room! I am a newborn photographer and started sewing my own prop outfits. I have been searching for an easier way to sew newborn size arm & log holes because they are so small and don't fit over the free arm of my sewing maching. Do you have any tips or ideas for sewing such smaller items?
Thank you for the info on the cutting tables. I have been having fits trying to figure out what to use that would be big enough and the right height. You solved it for me.
OMG. I love how organized you are. I love your sewing room from the machines to the pink accents to well everything. How do you refold your patterns after you use them?
glad to see the band aids - i have them too as somedays all i do is bleed ! I also have them in my travelling sewing kit. you have a beautiful sewing space!
I'm having the most stressful time of my life cutting on the floor. I'm sort of taking a break in a few days before I break. Please do a video on sewing and pattern books
Pls stop cutting on the floor. Blood flow isn't effective in this position. Then your back starts to really ache. Pls don't continue cutting on the floor.
Thank you for posting a video of your sewing room. Can you please share the dimension of your cutting table top? Also how did you adhere the cutting mat to the tabletop? Thank you for sharing your happy place.
Hi :) so glad I came across your page! Loved watching your room tour. Motivation for me to keep my sewing room clean. It’s usually a big mess haha. And I really liked the idea of hanging patterns on the door. Some of my patterns are very big and I didn’t know where to store them.
I’ve been wanting to build my wife the ultimate cutting table, because the floor is killing her. What are the dimensions of your tables? Or which Linnmon did you get from IKEA? Thank you!
Im still learning and im sad i cant afford most of the sewing stuff. I loved listening when you said you you have a lot a lot of dewing books and still have in the back of your garage, how i wish i have your old sewing books 😢
That musical box plays ‘Lara’s song’ or something close to that. My name is Laura, and I have a two musical boxes that have that song. I love it❤️ and I love your style and patterns! And I super love your sewing room!!!! Looks more like a suite!!!!
That cutting table is it. That's all I need to make my space complete. Love what you have going on.

I also used to buy pretty fabrics and ended up donating them. Then I would just buy as I need. Now in quarantine, I’m pulling out what I have on hand and making good use of it!
You have no idea how much inspiration I’ve drawn from this video ❤️
Funny, I have the same Alex setup from IKEA for my work desk. I'm a software engineer so I work from home but I've turned my office into a craft room.
What a fabulous sewing space. Love it!!!
Really great sewing room! Thanks so much for sharing! I hope you have a great day and stay safe!
Your sewing space is so organized! I'm inspired and jealous at the same time😉.
Wow! Is awesome! Love it!
Thanks for the inspiration!
Love it! Would never have thought to put my shelves on the dresser like that.. great idea.
Thank you for posting a video of your sewing room. Can you please share the dimension of your cutting table top? Also how did you adhere the cutting mat to the tabletop? Thank you for sharing your happy place.
Great video. Thanks for sharing your ideas. Beautiful sewing room.
You’re crafty space is #Goals. Thank you for sharing your room tour.
Thank you for some much needed inspiration! In the middle of trying to create a corner in my home for a sewing room and this helped so much! 🥰💜
Thank you!
The lighting! Where you need it. Fab!
Im still learning and im sad i cant afford most of the sewing stuff. I loved listening when you said you you have a lot a lot of dewing books and still have in the back of your garage, how i wish i have your old sewing books 😢
