Takes me right back to my childhood, growing up on Brame Street. Mama would play this album many a Sunday... I miss you, Mama❤ What a Friend I have in Jesus❤❤❤
Smh.... The memories of 1972 chokes me up just thinking of it. I was 5 and knew who she was but never knew she sang gospel. From the day Mommy brought this album home back then and I'll be 55, it has been the one and only gospel album I listen to and treasure.
Wow that was powerful. Jesus black people where do real back here in this generation. I say this was the generation x. We have the thrills and whistles and gadgets now but they had the power. Power that changes lives and a generation
I love Aretha's voice more than anyone else's but what really gets to me is her amazing phrasing. It's not just the notes she hits but also where she sings in the song and how her emphasis on a particular word or syllable influences the emotion conveyed. I can be as happy as anything with not a care in the world but when her voice slightly breaks at "some love and care", it chokes me up.
Cornell Dupree on guitar, Chuck Rainey on bass and Bernard 'Pretty' Purdie on drums all part of King Curtis band that Aretha used when she recorded Live at the Fillmore West the year before this.
Everything perfect, I love this style of music, this bass line is fantastic. There's a reason black music is called soul, because when we sing, we lift our spirits. Aretha will never be another like you, God bless you!
She expresses a distant look, a life of pain, in those eyes. And then she sings about the Lord. I truly believe we would have lost her to the world but for the Lord. God bless her soul and her family.
This song almost brings me to tears every time I hear it. From the passion and emotions you can hear in The Queens voice. This is my first time seeing it live, and it blew my mind that you can also see the passion and emotion in her facial expressions. She truly had a gift from God! This song brings me back to my childhood. My Mama blasting this album getting ready for church Sunday mornings.
4:51 separately in groups, tenors: “you gotta friend!” altos: “you gotta friend!” sopranos: “you gotta friend in...” everyone: “JESUS!!!!”Oh my goodness that was gospel, the separation of the voices - brought back childhood memories. I was so blessed to be exposed to that type of singing in the gospel choirs. Thank you mom for showing me my roots. ❤
I might be taking the long road,I may not see the light but I do have my heart to guide me and I'm learning to love life. I don't know if God ever listens to me,I have no proof that jesus loves me but it don't stop me from trying to be a better person
We are some AMAZING PEOPLE!!! I SEE WHY THEY TRY US DOWN!!!! Look at this talent, skill, and precision. I am so PROUD TO BE BLACK!!!!!! THEY TRY TO MAKE US DOUBT OURSELVES!!!! Believe in yourselves!!! Believe in God!!!!!!
Beautiful on the outside, beautiful on the inside. She is the Queen, and always will be. The things she's done back in her days, that takes courage and sheer support from God.
Back when real singers existed, I long for those days, thank God for youtube to bring me back to the way it used to be. I grew up on James Cleveland, and to this day I am still listening to him, and Aretha, what a angelic inspiring voice, it brings tears to my eyes. Love her.
That choir, though! The Queen could have chosen any choir, any singers! She chose an anointed small choir! It was all preordained. Praise God for the legacy of Aretha!
So that's not a small choir that's the Southern California Community Choir they are dope!! They have recorded with huge stars, basically she got one of the baddest choirs around to back her up !!!
When you're down and troubled And you need some loving care And nothing, nothing is going right Close your eyes and think of me And soon I will be there To brighten up even your darkest night You just call out my name And you know wherever I am I'll come running to see you again Winter, spring, summer or fall All you have to do is call And I'll be there You've got a friend If the sky above you Grows dark and full of clouds And that old north wind begins to blow Keep you head together And call my name out loud Soon you'll hear me knocking at you door You just call out my name And you know wherever I am I'll come running to see you again Winter, spring, summer or fall All you have to do is call And I'll be there You've got a friend Ain't it good to know that you've got a friend When people can be so cold They'll hurt you, and desert you And take your soul if you let them You just call out my name And you know wherever I am I'll come running to see you again Winter, spring, summer or fall All you have to do is call And I'll be there You've got a friend Ain't it good to know that you've got a friend
This was back in the day when most churches didn't have air conditioning and didn't care! Nowadays people would leave once they realize there is no air conditioning and would never return to any church that didn't have air conditioing. Back then the worship was most important.
Mrs Franklin needed to have the room heated to keep her vocal cords warm. It's why in her later years she would perform with a fur coat on stage, she hated to be cold.
You're right!! But at her father's funeral she asked for the air conditioning to be put off so as to sing as appropiatelly and beautifully as she always did.
Yass! And she prefers the heat better than the cold. Her container home was always hot. She said it was better this way for her voice! I love her voice and her Gospel music! She’s my vocal coach!
FUN FACT: 5:33 the little girl clapping her hands in black & white with the side ponytail & glasses is Miki Howard...yes...”Love Under New Management” & “Come Share My Love” Miki Howard. at the age of 12 years old. Everyone needs to listen to this in 2021
When you're down and troubled
And you need some loving care
And nothing, nothing is going right
Close your eyes and think of me
And soon I will be there
To brighten up even your darkest night
You just call out my name
And you know wherever I am
I'll come running to see you again
Winter, spring, summer or fall
All you have to do is call
And I'll be there
You've got a friend
If the sky above you
Grows dark and full of clouds
And that old north wind begins to blow
Keep you head together
And call my name out loud
Soon you'll hear me knocking at you door
You just call out my name
And you know wherever I am
I'll come running to see you again
Winter, spring, summer or fall
All you have to do is call
And I'll be there
You've got a friend
Ain't it good to know that you've got a friend
When people can be so cold
They'll hurt you, and desert you
And take your soul if you let them
You just call out my name
And you know wherever I am
I'll come running to see you again
Winter, spring, summer or fall
All you have to do is call
And I'll be there
You've got a friend
Ain't it good to know that you've got a friend
