When I go back and visit the South, the choirs still march in. In fact, even when I visited Paso Robles, California in 2018, the choir marched in and it did my heart glad. (Second Baptist) I was the guest musician and it was so heartfelt. They marched in with “Sign Me Up”. Brought tears to my eye. I love our traditions!
When we viewed this at the cinema, and the choir marched in, we stood up unintentionally because that what we do in normal church . We forgot we were in the theatre and didn't care. Also at the end when Mother Gertrude Ward couldn't contain herself anymore when Aretha sang Never Grow Old
I waited over 20 years for this to come out. I used to listen to this album almost every night before I went to bed. Always trying to visualize how it looked in person. Man I really enjoyed this dvd.
OMG!! Same here. My mom would play the album every Sunday. Then I purchased the CD here. When I saw the choir come down the aisle. I had no clue this is what they did when James Cleveland was singing this song.
Yea I remember when this record came out(I was 5) and the day Mommy came in the house with it. I could not believe that Aretha Franklin was singing. I'm sure I'd heard gospel but not by someone I was familiar with. I looked at that album cover for a long time in awe. I had never seen her sooooo natural and she had a afro . She seemed sooooo......regular, I was just amazed. I wished i was there. That was probably the 1st time me noticing the record was live. This album's been in my ear for 48 years so to see the visual that is the album , was a dream come true.
I went to see this film yesterday, when she was singing Amazing Grace, I can't stop my tears!!! This is my very first time crying like a baby in cinama.
“Whole Holy” is a sleeper Re Classic. Not many know about it, but the voice that she was in for it’s recording was nothing short of phenomenal. Only God can anoint a voice like that. Purely sensational.

After watching Genius: Aretha Franklin on National Geographic Channel, I had to find as many of Aretha’s original videos as I can. She is so amazing! That movie was great, but my God, there is no one like the Queen of Soul, Ms. Aretha Franklin...she Rest In Peace.
The Halo of light around everyone's afros... especially the choir director.....this is magnificent filmmaking that honors this once in millineum voice. There is nothing like Aretha singing except maybe sunshine....
She was a singer through and through. She was a communicator. She had feeling, and she made you feel it too. Typical of gospel to touch people......but it was also great to see her touch people through the secular as well. But it was all rooted and sprung from this right here. Gospel. She truly was anointed from the very beginning.
My God! The quality, fervor and soulful sound of that voice!! The pure resonance of Queen Aretha’s voice can never be duplicated! On top of that, what a gifted pianist! Wow! She was one of a kind and sorely missed! Rest in Heaven, Queen of Soul!
I was fortunate enough to see Aretha live about 20 years ago. I wanted to so badly to hear some songs from this album. But I suppose she was giving the general audience what they wanted to hear - the Hits. Don't get me wrong, it was a once in a lifetime experience. But now owning this on DVD makes up for that. Any time I'm feeling low, anytime I need to feel the Spirit, anytime I wish I were in Church but it's 10:00 pm on a Tuesday night....I put this movie in and I am there.
THIS SONG RIGHT HERE would’ve had grown men in tears, ESPECIALLY SUNG LIKE THIS....? I pray everyone who isn't here today died grateful for this day/experience😢😢😢😢That damn background😖😖😖😖
I went to the movie theater to watch this and loved it. It took me back to the old school church services in the South with grandparents. I will definitely buy this movie if it released in stores. So great!
I recorded this album on cassette tape(s) and took it with me to Basic Training in Ft.Leonardwood , MO in June of 1972. It's so great to see it as a movie. It's absolutely "Timeless"!!!!!!!
This film..... smh, brought me back to 1972 when a mesmerized 5 year old (myself), first heard Aretha Franklin sing gospel. The first time I had ever heard a live album, EVER. I've waited 47 years. To see the visual that is the album is truly a dream come true. It is the one and only gospel album in our house growing up and is the ONLY gospel album I listen to...PERIOD. Me too.... Mommy brought this album home one day back in 1972, I was 5. Up until that day, every album cover I had seen of Aretha Franklin was fancy, shiny hair, makeup and jewelry but, this album cover had me in aweeeeee. I was fascinated and very confused as to why she looked so........ regular. Hair natural and covered like Mommy, no makeup like mommy with a dress similar to the one Mommy would wear. I just couldn't understand it and when I asked why Daddy said " because she wanted too ". That put her in a different position for me. I'on know why because I was already told she was The Queen but, at that moment I believed it. This was the 1 and only gospel album in our house growing up that was played on a weekly basis and we practiced Islam. When I saw this video shortly after she passed, plz believe me when I tell you, I shed tears. Went to the theater and sang and cried again. It was truly a dream come true.

Yes they were
Yes they were fire yes sir song it Queen
Wait are we talking 1972ish era Cissy or 2016ish background Cissy for Aretha? 😎
That entrance song the choir did " we are on our way" put tears in my eyes. We use to have real good church back in the day.
Yes we did.

Yes Lord
Can you please write the lyrics here? I love it, too, but not sure of every word. Thank you!
Aretha looked wonderful! Her eyes were truly beautiful!
The Peace and Joy that shows on her face just before she begins to sing. Love her ❤️✝️🇺🇸
As the choir marches in I am reminded that we a grand people. The youngins need to be also reminded.

BEAUTIFUL💐💗💐
This is one of the most beautifully filmed documentaries I've seen to date. Aretha's absolutely pristine here.
To watch the Queen at work in her absolute prime is an honor. I'm grateful and humbled to have lived to experience this.
I`ve loved lots of singers` voices over the years but Aretha is the most fascinating to me. Seeing her sing this was an amazing experience .
Me too!
Agreed
I play the whole concert everyday, it fills my soul❤️

The Halo of light around everyone's afros... especially the choir director.....this is magnificent filmmaking that honors this once in millineum voice. There is nothing like Aretha singing except maybe sunshine....
Grew up singing in the church in Louisiana, we used to march in just like this !🙌🏾
I saw her performance of Amazing Grace too in this film, u know when you are blessed by God when your voice has grown men crying.
She is playing the piano with her eyes closed!....and her early 70s sound was pure magic. Such a legend.
She was a singer through and through. She was a communicator. She had feeling, and she made you feel it too.
