Back when racing was racing...Winston Cup Years....you can't replace it now...big time sponsorship...NASCAR..you need to take note of this..especially with the restart of North Wilkesboro
Thanks for posting these races! It's nice to just pick one and watch it once in a while. Sometimes, I have no idea who wins in the end! Have to watch it to find out!
I was at this race! The only race my brother and I ever saw together. Lost him in a car accident just 4 years later 😢. I hope I can see us in the stands. 😊
It hurts to watch the older races honestly. Its not 'nostalgia googles', the racing was just better, the cars were raw, drivers were more enthusiastic, and the stands were full. I get some things in current Nascar like safety is better so its not all bad but I just don't enjoy the playoffs at all, even if the drivers I like win the championship it feels so flat, and the times an accident does happen its usually fabricated from the mandatory stage race cautions to stir up drama.
Back in 1997, Jeff Gordon was the only young gun faking his Christian thing but in reality listened to Duran Duran. I was that avid Jeff Gordon and Duran Duran fan. The Gordon fans mainly were in Boston, Providence, Killingly, Webster, and Worcester and in Seattle, Portland OR, and CA in the synth Rock and Silicon Valley area. Earnhardt fans were in the Deep South and Texas. Don't get me wrong, I listened to country music and oldies. The new NASCAR now has more fashion like Teen Vogue and Cosmopolitan and Ebony and Jet mags for the BET channel. Yes Bubba Wallace. Now I have more respect for Earnhardt.
At 50:17 Matt Yocum is referencing Dale's crew's mishaps at Daytona. The story behind that was explained in the Larry McReynolds podcast where he talks about having to deal with a couple of wayward crew members and then come to find out they were drinking and overslept and came 30 minutes late and Larry made them sit out the Daytona 500 and then Larry and Richard Childress has to use back-up crew guys and they had some bad pit stops and it looks like here they are fixing those issues early in the season.
Jimmy Elledge New crew member, Kelly King Elledge (aka) Kelly Earnhardt Elledge Miller (aka) Dalejr's lil sister. Apparently she was impressed also the mother of Karsyn Elledge
Jeff Gordon, who drove for Hendrick Motorsports with his iconic DuPont-sponsored Rainbow Warriors paint scheme, defeated Dale Jarrett, who drove for Robert Yates Racing with his Ford Quality Care sponsorship, to win the 1997 GM Goodwrench Service 400 at the North Carolina Motor Speedway with a combined total of 376 laps. The 2nd NASCAR on GMA race of 1997 was jointly produced by Television and Production Exponents, Inc. and SilverStar Communications, Inc. and aired live, nationwide, and via-satellite on GMA Network and Citynet Television 27 on February 24, 1997 with a radio simulcast on DZBB 594 Radyo Bisig Bayan and Campus Radio 97.1 WLS FM
NASCAR needs to buy speedway from the current owner who talked a good game early on but hasn’t done a thing with the track. Add some lights and have a summer night race.
Dale said to Larry the year before he died - They were never given fair chance cause Dale raced hurt up until Neck Surgery in late 99 before the 2000 season
Dale was hurt much worse than he was willing to admit. He should have sat out the rest of 96 after the wreck. If he did that and started 97 more healthy I figure the last 4 years of his career would have been more competitive. Larry got a raw deal not having Dale in top shape.

That Duralube commercial sent me right back. 👀
Jeff Gordon's 2nd of 10 Wins in 1997
When 18.9 seconds was a fast pit stop

It was cool to see the LaBonte brothers in a commercial together, even if Bobby had already switched to Pontiac. 👍👍
I was at this race went to all rock races

They just added a million dollars in lights and repaved it lol
Love this race.
It's a damn shame the Earnhardt/McReynolds combination didn't work out.
Larry was a perfectionist and Earnhardt didnt like that. He obviously wanted the best car and crew chief but in the end they butted heads too much.
@@Petsmilekyser I also think that Larry Mac was burned out by the time he arrived at RCR. Larry I think thought that teaming up with Dale would help.
Larry's Better off on Fox

Jeff Gordon becomes the 4th driver to win the 1st 2 races of a season
