I don't remember seeing that before. Yes, the tarps are working out very well. Most years we have had a battle with a tomato disease but this year I believe the tarp keeps it down or somehow covers the source of it. I have converted all my flowerbeds and it works much better for me. I started using these amzn.to/4cLIjN1 and they don't clog up when using my pond water. I don't get as much blackspot on roses and other fungus issues since I'm not spraying the leaves anymore. I read somewhere that a lot of tomato illnesses come from rain hitting the dirt around the plant and splashing spores etc up onto the leaves. I wonder if that is why your tomatoes a better this year since you covered the dirt? I hope you enjoy your weekend as well.
I got my first ones from Tractor Supply. They come on the T-posts to bind them together for shipping and they throw them away. You have to do some straightening but they worked. You can also check lumber yards for steel strapping. It can also be bought in rolls which is much more convenient and straight but you have to buy a huge roll.
