Fun fact: The bridge at 8:52 has a super long approach with no hill because of the rocky conditions of the soil in that area. When building overpasses for freeways the MSHD (now MDOT) used local nearby dirt to build the approach segments of overpasses. Most of the pits dug for dirt became ponds. However because of the rocky soil in the UP this did not work, so they just built an artificial man-made approach.
The Strait of Mackinac is gorgeous when you're on the bridge. I mean, Lake Michigan is on the west and Lake Huron is on the east and like I said before, they form 1 single lake.
Bridge is Not even Built for an Interstate highway. Very Narrow Shoulders on the Mackinac Bridge, might not even have Shoulders at all. Speed Limit is only 45 and only 20 for Truckers! Median isn't a Barrier wall like many other Interstates have. Sadly, you need to Pay to get to the other side of Michigan whether you're Driving North or South. All Traffic using or was using the bridge Literally Needs to Stop or make a Complete Stop just to pay the Fare. There's not even Electronic Toll Collection. MacPass is the Closest thing to an Electronic Toll. The Mackinac Bridge might have be Reconstructed in 2057 or something. Yes It is a Great Bridge, but it's Outdated and doesn't have the Bridge Technology or the Traffic Volume we have Today,
I respect your opinion but will have to disagree on most everything but the tolling. Any bridge over the straights would require a slower speed limit because of the height above the water (200 ft) and the sudden winds that affect the straight's area even on normal days. The bridge can't have a shoulder because it's designed to move 20ft back and forth to reduce wind stress so the road deck needs to be as narrow as possible. When the bridge was built in the 1950's it was a engineering marvel and I feel shouldn't be judged based on today's standards. It handles millions of vehicles safely every year with only 2 vehicles ever leaving the roadway both because of driver error or intent. I've driven over it in both car and semi and never felt unsafe even in high winds. But then again this is my opinion and it obviously differs from yours and you know what that's okay! If everyone had the same opinion on things the world would be a very boring place!
And hope yall had a nice trip back west to The Wild West Coast.
This was a weekend trip (I live in Michigan). I took a 10 day trip out west to California which is what I will be starting in a week or so.

I've been past that bridge dozens of times and always wonder why it was like that! So thanks for the fun fact!
Very Beautiful Day for a Drive! Very Nice Weather and Skies. Even the Traffic is Light for the Most Part!!
The border was restricted so that keeps the traffic down on I-75.
@@Adventureswithtcs Oh Yeah, that Makes sense as to Why the Traffic was that Low
@@SlowedByCinnamxn before the c word a lot of trucks would travel to canada this way.
Thanks for the take along!!!! Been a long time since I've been to the Soo... nice drive.... thanks for sharing!!!
We saw the longest boat in the great lakes while we were there! Can't remember the name but it was HUGE!

My Mom grew up here, he house was where the bridge is now on Easterday Ave.
That’s awesome! My dad’s uncle lived here as well!
Have yall been to South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Florida, and Georgia.
I have to been to all those states but not since I started this channel. Someday I would like to include those states in my videos!

The view from Castle Rock is amazing!
Read the plack at the north end of I75... touch it I did... stayed at a motel closest to it. now i'm 74 and don't travel anymore... rats! lol
What does the plaque say?

The view is amazing from on top of the bridge!

The bridge predates Interstate 75, it was originally US-27 when it opened in 1957, and then it became I-75 around 1960.
