  • With 2 new Mad Max films on the horizon, I knew I had to make a video on one of my all time favorite post-apocalyptic action flicks, Fury Road!
    In many ways it's a miracle this movie was even released with the development hell it went through for 15 years, and it feels like some of that bad luck rubbed off on me, cause my PC nearly died multiple times through the making of this video!
    Make sure to like and subscribe if you enjoyed it! I'm off to hopefully fix whatever's wrong with my computer, have a great day everyone!

    Fury Road is a rare example of a movie where it feels like the worldbuilding extends beyond what we directly see. That's not uncommon in sci fi or fantasy books, but Movies don't go the extra mile in that category nearly as often.

      The story itself is 98% carchases and explosions, all we need is a reason for the chase to happen and the rest of the backstory is not irrelevant. This was also true for StarWars and that is why the prequeals failed: *don't tell the backstory*.

      It is hard to reconcile that Peter Weir directed the Cars That Ate Paris when you consider his later films, it is hardly Oscar-winning stuff. An indication that bizarre and perhaps even original does not equal good. I can't see anything from The Cars... in the earlier Max films. When I first watched Fury Road, the spikey cars meant nothing, i did really have much time to think at all, my mind was blown. The second time, I thought, yeh, I have seen them before and remembered, but really the settings were quite differnt, in Paris the spikes stood out (no pun intended), but in Fury Road they fitted right in. I hope they bring the Max films back to cinemas when the new one comes out, or at least Fury Road, nothing beats the big screen, sitting so you can't see the edges of the screen. I do that for very few films, the only other I can remember is 2001, first in 1980 (I was alone in the theatre in the middle of the day having sat for my last university exam that semester) and then in 2001 re-release in 70mm SuperPanavision -Wow! I missed out on the Nolan restored original? 70mm SuperPanavision Screening in 2018, I doubt that I will get another chance, which is a shame.

    As good as fury road is something I enjoyed the most about it was the mystery about the Crow fishers. I especially found it adorable how people were so pissed about not understanding that scene. It made perfect sense to me when you're on a long road trip and you see something weird out the window and don't stop to figure it out it was kind of like that for me. 7 years later I see the title of this video and I figured it would be explained which I also had no problem with.

      I will never understand why most people feel the need to have everything explained to them. I guess it's that they lack imagination...probably from watching way too much TV.

    • @TK2692
      @TK2692 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@derkeheath5172 Sometimes you see something that is interesting and you want to know what it is. For a movie that has as much effort into developing well thought out and interesting setting and is engaging as Fury Road is, it shouldn't be surprising that people want to learn as much about it as they can. It seems unnecessarily dismissive to suggest that those people just lack imagination. It's a bit like concluding that the people who were fine with them not being explained simply lack curiosity, instead of understanding that they just prefer more mystery.

    I once thought that The Wizard of Oz would forever hold the record for the number of times I had seen a movie. In just the span of 8 years, Mad Max Fury Road has surpassed it with probably 20 to 25 complete viewings... and still counting. I pick up bits and pieces every time I watch it. Yes, a sequel with Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron is needed and desired... if you can keep them from each others' throats. (P.S. Would have been great to see Hardy as James Bond and Theron as a Bond girl... . Can you imagine that? She would have needed an injection of Valhalla Chrome).

    A couple cool things I want to add: first, the show measuring thing that Furiosa uses as a gas pedal is set to the women's side, making it uncomfortable for men to use (which almost the entirety of the empire is made of), and also adds to how she personalized the entire rig so that only she (and people she teaches) can drive it. Second, the drug in the chrome paint also helps Joe manipulate the war boys into thinking he's giving them some kind of special superhuman power, making them think he's even more of a god
