"Find the box that's been around the longest in your town, and try to intern there." YES!!! I have been given SO much knowledge from the experience of the box that has been here for years.
Im all for steroid use and i think all athletes should juice in every sport if they want to. And i understand that the athletes dont want to admit to it because it will ruin their career. But i cant stand athletes that go OUT OF THEIR WAY to "prove" that they arent juicing. One look at Dan Bailey during the Crossfit Games compared to him any other time of the year and you can see the dude is on something. Like the bearded guy said..."you're naive" if you think he isnt taking SOMETHING.
Yes, They always claim the "we are being tested at the games" which doesn't mean shit. Just look at Armstrong's interview and you will know that this testing routine is worthless.
CrossFit started a new drug policy for the 2014 season. What do you think about the use of PED's in CrossFit? A while back we had Dan Bailey on the show and here is what he had to say....
This has nothing to do with this video, but Barbell Shrugged might be the best blog/vlog of all time! ALL TIME! thanks for doing what you do. You guys are hilarious.
Amazing to see Dan and his thoughts on education. I come from a family who expects college ad university as a path for their children but the world is so offering and there are opportunities that are available that werent 20 years ago. ago
It seems that the few of those who have been exposed as users tarnish the larger population who haven't, and as such, everybody now assumes that they all do it. I'd rather give them the benefit of the doubt, acknowledge their hard work, and not try to take anything away from them just because they are stronger/fitter than i'll ever be. If people saw the amount of training and volume these guys put in before wondering why they aren't as strong/fit doing 2 wods a week, a lot of opinions would change. These guys basically live under the barbell.
hittman1412 I don't think that many people who claim athletes using steroids as "cheating", in a sense that they don't work hard. I may be wrong on this assumption, but in my eyes, steroids and other anabolic hormones are primarily allowing athletes to train more frequently, thus work even harder than those who don't. not all PEDs do this, but when I hear steroids, I think recovery, and therefore if you are more recovered, you can train more and harder.
It's completely reasonable to have someone train twice a day six days a week, although it may not be optimal without drugs. The weight on the barbell and the volume will undulate much more drastically with this set up, and i'm sure a natural person could build up to the ability where they could handle such frequency and workloads over the course of several years.
lol nice pointing that bit of nonsense out. Bailey expects us to believe that some crossfit competitors use steroids, just not the ones that make it to the top of the rankings, lol. I guess steroids are pretty useless then, Dan.
when a man says he isn't on steroids he isn't, he does not need them, he is an athlete he got to this from hard and dedicated training, i'm not going to argue with you, you may think whatever you want to think.
love his response on the steroids people. Put your money where your mouth is if you challenge somebody on their use or lack there of for PEDs. Dan Bailey's the dude.
It is a known fact for those who have researched and have knowledge that drug testing programs cannot detect PED use in athletes that use the latest PED's and procedures. Testing procedures are very complex and it is difficult to find ways to differentiate metabolite byproducts from PED use that are natural occurring vs. synthetic. It takes many years and lots of funding to do this. Financial backing for testing is far outweighed by financial backing for the production of masking drugs and new forms of undetectable synthetic drugs. It would be very naïve of spectators and enthusiasts to believe top athletes are PED free because of a policy or program. It is similar to saying people do not break the speed limit on US highways because we have laws and law enforcement detecting speeders who speed, there for speeders do not exist on our highways.
You just have to shop around. I don't know what city you are in but you need to go around and meet and talk with the owners and their trainers. Ask them how long they have been training and how long they had their level one cert. Ask about the programming and ability to scale to your needs.
That was the second half of my 2 part comment. I mentioned the fact that the majority of crossfitters don't work on strength training, rather metcons and that is why they can't put on mass. So when they see elite crossfitters they can't understand why these guys are considerably larger than 95% of the crossfitting population. That's all I'm saying.
you know the army has the worst test for steroids.. lol aka no test. but I completely understand and support your comment due to first hand account as i served my self and all we did was work out 3 times a day due to job specific physical requirements.. ;)
Okay . . . if they are using (or me) you still have to train your ass off even more because you recover faster. Is it a short cut like some people say ? . . . It's not a magic pill. Then all you have to do is sit an wait till you look like Arnold S. Super hard work either way. Ones just faster then the other. But it is better to have muscle maturity (4-5 yr's training in) then maybe if you want PED's.
Yes, there are many categories of PED's, however it is easy to see that Lance was on something when e was competing, like let's logically think here is a human really capable of that naturally? Dan's build is short and stocky with short limbs and typically shorter stockier guys have larger muscle bellies when they workout because of levers/bodyweight/weight being lifted and how well it's being lifted in terms of form and quality reps. Honestly, Dan's build makes his physique realistic.
When i said "roiding it up" I meant blood doping and HGH. His endurance and his "I don't really ever take a day off" mentality screams re-oxygenated blood and other factors.
Okay if you really think that he uses steroids, then take him up on his challenge. I'm sure he'll even let you keep track of him to make sure. GO AHEAD AND DO IT, stop saying he does steroids if you aren't willing to take him up on his challenge.
I bet you'd you go broke before you got a return..... lol.... These are the 1% of the world. Everything they do is possible with hard work and proper recovery. Most people never train right, always think they eat right and there recovery is point. These guys push themselves. Plus you don't take drugs and magically become a winner you still have to train harder than everyone else. The drugs won't do the work for you.
It's the same with Olympic pros, but they often are still on steroids....there are different kind of steroids. For crossfit I bet there are a few who use performance enhancing steroids
People seem to forget that Dan is 5'7' he's really not that big of a guy, and he has shorter limbs which allow for naturally bigger muscle bellies and size. People see other Crossfitters as skinny people with ripped abs and horrible form and technique, and when they see elite Crossfitters who look like 95% of people who do "bodybuilding" look like. Why? Because the majority of their off season is strength training and low metabolic conditioning. It's only the last few months that they work on..
What's wrong with taking steroids? If someone's willing to take the risks, let him do it. Muscle and mind still have to do the work, right? If Rich and Dan are really clean, it shows that PEDs are no guarantee for winning a contest.
I can guarantee you there are guys who use things like HGH but there is no test in existence for HGH. Guys like Matt Chan and Neal Maddox who are older and require more time for recovery may use it to help during their on season to be able to keep up with the young guys.
In my opinion guys like Bailey and Froning wouldnt take juice simply because they dont do only crossfit workouts. Froning does lots of heavy lifting and trains different muscle groups. They also do 4 or 5 workouts daily. I think thats why their kinda big. But in realty they arent really that big compared to allot of guys. They look like Marines or Swat members ( trust me my brother in law is a Marine and best friends dad is Bomb Squad). But like any sport Im sure there are guys who cheat.
Hey MrZaiyo. Your comment about Rich and his 25 pound drop in C&J max at the games was ridiculous. This was the 2nd event of the day, and the 8th workout within 3 days. Are you saying that on one day, if I was to hit a 370lb clean and jerk, I should be able to hit that same weight on any given day? Regardless of rest and recent training evolutions? Get out of here.
well tren would probably just ruin a crossfit athletes performance endurance wise. Im pretty sure EPO is undetectable, Testosterone could be used before games and short half life steroid could be used after drug testing. if you do some research on it, you'll see its really not that hard if you have the funding like Bailey said. The only reason Lance arm strong got caught was because of his on teammate snitching on him.
I also train 2 times a day, if I didn't need to make ends meet, or if I was a sponsored athlete, trust me, I would be wod'ing 4 times a day myself. It's called dedication people, just because we train excessively doesn't mean steroids. So, when I was in army BCT and during the 4 years I served, I worked out all day because that is what you do, was I or my entire brigade on steroids? Ridiculous
In my personal opinion I don't believe Dan or Rich are on any steroids. I will say this, even if they are on external supplements "Steroids" you can't count out the hard work these guy's put in & why does anybody really care, I got bigger things to worry about lol
The only thing i could see these guys being on is test or something like that. Anything that creates to much muscle is going to be a downfall due to more muscle taking up more oxygen. That would be dumb to have when you are an strength and endurance athlete.
LOL what? if you didnt like my use of seasonal then why are you tryna tell me that bodybuilders will cycle or blast juice? most lifters especially the ones in the mens physique athletes division of ifbb will powerlift during the off season then months before a show or competition theyll juice while they cut so they don't lose all the precious muscle mass they gained during the off season. and ofc its a moral thing as well with any other substance whether its creatine, booze, or amphetamines
So if there is no steroids going on at the top, tell me how rich froning can work out 4 times a day. And do olympic lifts more than once a day? No natural athlete gets rested that fast. And you say you are up for testing any day of the year, but you also want 5000 dollars to be donated to a charity if they do. Complete bullshit, of course no one is going to test you with that price tag.. so bs
Dylan Palmer Yeah, I saw the video, too. But obviously you can never be 100 % sure. There are also drugs that hide steroid use. Why would people be bothered to risk 5000 dollars to prove someone is a phony?
You could ask Dan Bailey the same thing why risk his reputation to prove he is legit. Its someone paying 5000 dollars to a charity, or Dan Bailey losing all his credibility as an athlete and a trainer. If he didn't want anyone to donate there would be no risk people would test him just to test him.
You simply entirely missed the point of Dan's comment on the roids test... you bet those fucking $5k only if you're willing to stand for your judgement and discrediting their accomplishments from personal development to simply and impersonal cheating. The BS most certainly isn't coming from him and his kind, but from those who throw rocks under the protection of athletic anonymity. It's frightening how people can be so apathetic and the places they go to because of it!!! -100
4:00 what rest and nutrition??? I have seen hat these crossfit guys do . They literally train all day long, eating only a like one egg an some peanut butter or fruitduring the day. I mean wtf kind of recovery would a regular joe get from a schedule like that? they spend like four hours of the day maybe chilling out and resting the rest of the time they will be doing W.O.D. I seen Rich do like 8 W.O.D. in one day ,he would have done more but he had social plans . Now tell me they dont juice?
@dfrelat let me get this straight. Because you managed to call out Armstrong on doping, people should take your as of yet unfounded accusations seriously? No. Also, comparing biking to crossfit is unfair because biking culture IS doping, for decades btw. CrossFit on the other hand, is a culture that prides work ethic and grit. Not saying no one dopes, but get off your high horse pls.
..going hard in metcons and raising their V02max and work capacity and endurance. This is why they look the way they do, and normal crossfitters (majority of people who accuse elite crossfitters of using PED's) don't understand this because the majority of crossfitters only do metcons and high rep workouts. This is why they don't gain mass, this is why they get injured, this is why they get frustrated because they are getting horrible results. Plain and simple, their just jealous and misinformed
what do you know about cycling culture? what do you know about crossfit culture? cycling is a sport, crossfit is a business first , then sport second. You are the one making assumptions. The only reason Lance came up in the discussion is cause newbies like you think steroids making you look like Ronnie Coleman , where as lance is proof that steroids can be used to enhance performance without drastically changing muscle size aswell. So you get of your high horse please.
Lol this guy pretending he isn't on tons of gear. It's the sad reality we live in, it's all a facade, deception is truly the key to fooling the masses in any industry. These guys make a good living off crossfit and without the gear they would not be able to do it.
+joe di He didn't pretend anything. He said that if you want to test him, fine. You pay for the test, and if it comes back clean, you donate $5,000 to a charity of his choice. Considering what a positive result would do to his life as a competitor, that seems like a pretty fair bet for both parties.
Rich is obviously roiding it up. Until someone #1 puts themselves into a voluntary test scenario, in this day in age, is almost always cheating. Why? Simple. There is a financial incentive to be natural. It also helps you cut out your competition.
Keep dreaming, if you think NO one that goes to the games are using PED's just like any other sport crossfit if no different. its nothing to look down upon.
Well, that's not true, BMunich16. What likely IS true is that many people are accused of things by people for bad reasons. Being good doesn't mean you're cheating. Plenty of people do, but plenty don't.
you can do steroids and still look like a natty lifter, just depends on how often. Sane people will dose on a seasonal basis where as ifbb pro's and bobybuilders like Kai Greene and Jay Cutler have no morals and will juice whenever they feel like it.
Also, tonymon16, keep in mind that doping accusations that are wildly unfounded, such as yours, are more religion than science, more speculation than analysis, and are very unfair.
Matt chan? Old? I don't believe 35 is old. At my box there is an old man, age 58, that will put anyone of you to shame. Stop pinning the steroid pin on someone just because their dedication to the sport they love goes above and beyond your laziness. I CrossFit 7 days a week and plan on going to regionals next year, and I don't do steroids and am 31 years old. Smh
"Find the box that's been around the longest in your town, and try to intern there." YES!!! I have been given SO much knowledge from the experience of the box that has been here for years.
"the top guys in the sport are just too stand up of people to be doing that" -Dan Bailey
Yea...ok sounds legit.
Like Lance Armstrong and his LIVE STRONG Foundation. Lance was also too stand-up.... Until $$$ started to speak.
Dan is THE man! Glad you guys finally had him on the show. Very good content and delivery
Chris's great pop-up humor! Grateful for the episodes he has done. Good dude!
I'm sorry for anybody who believes that these top CF athletes are not using PED's. Not hating, just being realistic.
Yes, They always claim the "we are being tested at the games" which doesn't mean shit. Just look at Armstrong's interview and you will know that this testing routine is worthless.
Tony Kuefler completely agree with you no way this guys get so jack without juicing
ossme 2 dumps up the real true
CrossFit started a new drug policy for the 2014 season. What do you think about the use of PED's in CrossFit? A while back we had Dan Bailey on the show and here is what he had to say....
I would love to see a video about what you guys think a CrossFit business should run like. Dos and Donts. Maybe a how to business video or something.
This has nothing to do with this video, but Barbell Shrugged might be the best blog/vlog of all time! ALL TIME! thanks for doing what you do. You guys are hilarious.
Woah! That made my day. Thanks *****
Amazing to see Dan and his thoughts on education. I come from a family who expects college ad university as a path for their children but the world is so offering and there are opportunities that are available that werent 20 years ago. ago
Drugs are rampant in the professional league of every physically demanding sport. CrossFit is no different.

***** You mean you're surprised to see women who train twice a day, 5-6 days a week with muscle and low bodyfat? I've got news for you.
It's completely reasonable to have someone train twice a day six days a week, although it may not be optimal without drugs. The weight on the barbell and the volume will undulate much more drastically with this set up, and i'm sure a natural person could build up to the ability where they could handle such frequency and workloads over the course of several years.
you are an idoit
Haven't watched it yet and already liked it!
This show is awesome!! :) Dan Bailey is a beast!
"oh there is definitely steroids in the sport, but the top athletes don't use it" - Dan Bailey
lol nice pointing that bit of nonsense out. Bailey expects us to believe that some crossfit competitors use steroids, just not the ones that make it to the top of the rankings, lol. I guess steroids are pretty useless then, Dan.

Doug representing CrossFit Chicago!! nice!!

quote.. (it would be totally easy to take steroids) so pretty much he's saying loads people take steroids in crossfit
I feel you brother
That was the second half of my 2 part comment. I mentioned the fact that the majority of crossfitters don't work on strength training, rather metcons and that is why they can't put on mass. you're right bro!
@barbell Shrugged you should interview Danny Broflex :) that would make for an interesting Podcast.
you know the army has the worst test for steroids.. lol aka no test. but I completely understand and support your comment due to first hand account as i served my self and all we did was work out 3 times a day due to job specific physical requirements..
;)
so jelly of all that sweet Rogue equip....
Sure is!
Okay . . . if they are using (or me) you still have to train your ass off even more because you recover faster.
+no me steroids isnt a shortcut it enables you triple the results with half the effort
This is surreal. I mean, how could they do not laugh at this?
Yes... 5'7", 7% bf, 181 lbs is definitely achievable without PEDs.
@six3productions look up aja barto, chad mackay or garrett fisher.. The are all 6"1 plus..
Honestly, Dan's build makes his physique realistic.
awesome!
how can i fix the range of motion in my shoulders?? he showed how to to the other joints but not the one i needed :'(
I love you dan bailey you're the man and your def not on Roids man people will always talk shit cause their not on your level!!
What sport does he play?
When i said "roiding it up" I meant blood doping and HGH. His endurance and his "I don't really ever take a day off" mentality screams re-oxygenated blood and other factors.
Okay if you really think that he uses steroids, then take him up on his challenge. I'm sure he'll even let you keep track of him to make sure. GO AHEAD AND DO IT, stop saying he does steroids if you aren't willing to take him up on his challenge.
o i like that. so i can test you any time of the year without notice and if you fail i want those 5k from Baily. how does that sounds?
I bet you'd you go broke before you got a return..... lol.... These are the 1% of the world. Everything they do is possible with hard work and proper recovery. Most people never train right, always think they eat right and there recovery is point. These guys push themselves. No point in arguing about AAS on TH-cam, most are hopelessly uninformed and don't care to lean.
Crossfit games are perfect for smaller athletes. 5'5 5'9. You would never see any over 6ft in these games being a top qualifier.
What time do they talk about PEDs?
As far as things like Tren, EPO, etc, no one at the games would get away with it.
big guy eating the mic 11:30 hahahah but great vid
@tonymon16 Doping has been prevalent in biking for decades. For everyone and their mum in the biking world, lance's doping was a no-brainer.
Naturally that is.
Subscribed :)
Dude i see you commenting on like every crossfit video.
21:04 LOL too funny
I could care less about Dan being on gear, but for the record Lance took EPA, which although is a PED, is not a "steroid".
It's the same with Olympic pros, but they often are still on steroids....there are different kind of steroids. For crossfit I bet there are a few who use performance enhancing steroids
Just a student of the game..
How about TRT?
People seem to forget that Dan is 5'7' he's really not that big of a guy, and he has shorter limbs which allow for naturally bigger muscle bellies and size. The Guy with the beard sounds like Chris from family guy.
I can guarantee you there are guys who use things like HGH but there is no test in existence for HGH. Guys like Matt Chan and Neal Maddox who are older and require more time for recovery may use it to help during their on season to be able to keep up with the young guys.

Tsatsouline - "Sats-o-leen"
pop filters seem kind of pointless if you're talking in an echo-y gym.
Why not keep it simple...don't drug test at all!
they do this for a living, what's so hard to believe? possibly the fact that you can't do anything close to what they do in terms of physical fitness?
LOL hilarious!
Neither has Rich worked years to win the Crossfit games. ^ months of training and he won his first one. No wodder will ever win.
Of course they aren't on steroids, they are tiny compared to IBBF pros or elite powerlifters. They are lean as all hell though
Well if Dan is using them steroids then he would end up on the podium
In my personal opinion I don't believe Dan or Rich are on any steroids. I will say this, even if they are on external supplements "Steroids" you can't count out the hard work these guy's put in & why does anybody really care, I got bigger things to worry about lol

dude, stop hating man why not pay Dan to take the test and put $5000 on the table
He isn't on steroids

have you guys heard of chairs?
As silly as all the other fools who argued with me for years and years that Lance Armstrong wasn't taking anything! lol
Just look at Dan Bailey... tell me he doesn’t juice
Too stand up guys....Lance Armstrong was seen as a fucking saint until he got caught
he wasnt even caught afaik he admitted, and he was the most tested athlete in the world ever
maggot1234 Incorrect.
Dan Bailey with a shirt on? What is this nonsense?
4:00 what rest and nutrition??? I have seen hat these crossfit guys do . They literally train all day long, eating only a like one egg an some peanut butter or fruitduring the day.
Damn, again the dude in the green shirt gets way too close to the mic and it sounds horrible
Cheerleading is more of a sport than Crossfit.
Take his challenge or shut up. He put it out there for you. Or maybe you aren't as certain as you tried to appear?
According to people on the internet, if you're athletically successful, you are on steroids...
Also, tonymon16, keep in mind that doping accusations that are wildly unfounded, such as yours, are more religion than science, more speculation than analysis, and are very unfair.
any proof?
Matt chan? Smh
ffmi, a few assumptions here and there, and you could easily suggest that over 50% are juiced. that's conservative.
Well if this guy is serious about his sport he needs to get on some gear like some of the leople beating him.
