    I will always love Tom Ford. He is a superb designer who changed the way I thought about design, style & lifestyle. He has impeccable taste and is beyond,just beyond glamorous. A design genius who through his designs, beauty products and fragrances has made both women and men more beautiful.

      I don't think, this is what I said. What I said is that you don't need to spend fours years of your life studying fashion to be a great designer. So-called outliers bring different perspectives and ideas not formed by a formal fashion education.@@user-iu1ru1qz7u

      Sooooo many similarities!!

    • @JackMason-oq8lf
      @JackMason-oq8lf 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Begging your pardon, Halston was the Halston of his era. He was an original, a dress and sportswear designer, an American designer, who changed the direction of Fashion.
      He gained attraction designing hats at Bergen-Goodman. He gained notoriety when the President's wife, Mrs Kennedy, mistakenly wore her original Halston pillbox backwards (that Jackie Kennedy, she looked good coming and going). Things like fabrication and comfort were Halston trademarks. He became Mr. Ultrasuede. Tom Ford was the Italian designer of his day. He joined a large and old-line company noted for its expertise with equestrian goods, and leather accessories for people. The company stood for "quality," in the neighborhood with Mark Cross, and Botega Venata. Leather goods at their best. Botega and Gucci slowly added fashion items and increased their bottom lines. But the quality part started changing the brands. They became popular status houses because of their prices, but lost the old guard as patrons. The middle-class shoppers won out, dragging the Gucci line down off the mountain. I avoid LV because brown plastic hand bags were never my thing. Initials were never my thing. People still coveted those brown plastic luggage things. They said you had money to burn, which is not a slogan of old money. A Bentley was tasteful "quiet luxury" compared to the parade-floats from Rolls Royce. Expensive beyond belief, yes, but "quiet"expensive was reserved for the likes of machines like Bentley. As for Gucci merchandise, now it has become vulgar, targeted mostly to teenagers, who mistake it for "class."

    • @JackMason-oq8lf
      @JackMason-oq8lf 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Halston's residence was a landmarked temple of sublime Minimalism, a modern townhouse by a renound architect. The place was as simple, and complicated, as a Halston sheath. It looked like somewhere Halston would live. The
      living room alone would house four regular apartments. It was very elegant and very party-hardy. A masterpiece.

    Having followed Tom since the 90's it seemed to me he always had a fantastic eye for functional design in fashion. His lines were always quite linear and tactically accentuate human form. It doesn't surprise me he has an education in architecture as his designs elevate the human experience. When I reflect upon his career it's pretty evident that running so much of the business ruined his enjoyment of design and fashion. Note: when he departed FOUR people were hired to substitute his efforts. That says a LOT about how important his efforts were. Artists rarely enjoy the business aspect. I think if he delegated more, it would've given him more time to design, which was his strength. He left before he hit his prime, which saddens me.

    • @BookstrawBusiness
      @BookstrawBusiness  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes @pepleatherlab3872 I completely agree with your perspective! His interior architecture background meant he not only saw the garment but who would wear the garment, what it would say about the person and the setting for it. "fantastic eye for functional design" is a GREAT way to put it. And also I like your burnt out theory. He was soo dedicated tot he Gucci group (now Kering) and driving its success. I think you're probably right that then building TF and running the business aspect, plus the passing of his long term partner must have taken a toll. Yes his voice is still so welcome. Hopefully he makes a return one day.

      You need to check in occasionally to see who is at the helm. Balmain was dead. Now it's on top. Fashion changes. Lagerfeld was not named Coco Chanel. Everything great about the Chanel look was hers. Karl did a lot of black & white with accents of gold. All the major fashion houses have lost their namesake. There are no longer any great designers leading the way.
