Loving what you are doing, and bringing the experience of classical education is one of the most important things that has happened on the internet.

One that you did not mention that we are considering is We by the Russian novelist Yevgeny Zamyatin. He was an earlier writer in this genre and influenced the like of Orwell and Huxley. @@The_Cause Yes I am. Some people say the title is inaccurate and should be "What to Read and Why"... I disagree.
It does go into the how of reading... Just not the how like Adler & van Doren do.
I think the primary distinction between the two books is that Adler & van Doren cover the technical how, while Bloom covers the soul's how... How to gain enjoyment out of reading, the introspective and reflective parts of reading (reading is a mirror into your mind and thoughts).
This doesn't make either of the books less valuable. They complement each other.

I certainly wouldn't be complaining if you dipped into fiction. I think many great works of fiction have as much (or even more) substance as nonfiction. As your channel clearly focuses around, reading can be greatly beneficial to one's growth and thinking, but reading can also be a delight that one enjoys by reading something engrossing. A good story can do both of that. You should flip-flop between non-fiction and fiction series on books so you can balance it out (like do on classical education, dystopian fiction, history, myth, etc.)

    • @The_Cause

@@tjsurname119 It's the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. People confused the Latin word "malum" (evil) with the Latin word "malam" (apple). This mis-association only exists in Western Christianity, where Latin was the _lingua franca._ It's unknown in Eastern Christianity and in Judaism.

Stay with the non fiction. All else, from an existential standpoint, is relatively irrelevant.

The greatest minds in history would disagree but I can see your point. One of Washington's favorite books was Don Quixote and Franklin liked Pilgrims Progress. All the great Generals of the past could quote the Odyssey and the Iliad because their characters were shaped by them. Add the Bible in and bam you have yourself a culture. Thanks so much for watching my friend and stay blessed!
