This is an oddly surprising treat. One moment I was watching a special on ghosts of the Cotswolds. Then suddenly Rosie appears! I did not know that you are also a TV presenter. Cheers from Boston, US.
I visited Chetham as part of my library tour of Manchester one year (including John Rylands, Central Library and Portico). It's beautiful, but more of a museum now.
I was very interested in the bit about Dr John Dee. Not sure I believe his story about the Devil stamping his hoof on the table but I do own the 1661 edition of Euclid's Elements of Geometry which has a Preface written by Dee.
I'm English and building a library & art-gallery in Dolcedo, Liguria + I'm still writing the largest illustrated manuscript since Leonardo = 22 volumes & innumerable artworks.
Devil's hoof print, huh? Will have to remember that one that next time I ruin the finish on someone's table...
I am planning to build library in my village in Malaysia
you will become a local hero, knowledge is for everyone!
Humphrey chetham is my 11th great-grandfather, I live in the states but hope to visit this library soon. Thank you for this video!

Great video. I live in Australia and am now too old to travel to the UK so thanks for posting this - and remembering Chetham. Such a good man.

Was the film adaptation of M. R. James' story "The Tractate Middoth" filmed in this library?
Good eye spotting the bays.
Though I believe that the outdoor 'university' scenes were shot at Oxford. [Fellow M R James reader. Cheers!]
Fantastic
