- Forget Florida Friendly plants... I'm taking out a toxic exotic vine that was going to take over my native plants and add Ironweed (aka Veronia gigantea). Join me as we look at what happened after 16 weeks from taking a Small Florida Garden from BLAH to NATIVE! This is Phase 3 of the Florida Native Plants Landscaping Project!
In this series, I'm going to walk you through how I'm going from an invasive garden to a Florida Native Plants that attract butterflies, have Florida Native edible plants, shade tolerant, and draught tolerant!

They are all over the edges of our yard near the wood line. Wasn’t sure what it was. I’m happy its a good one
Pretty purple color!
I’m glad you like! 😄
Cool channel and fun. I stopped in to see how ironweed grows in the south. It is also a native plant in Eastern Canada. Zone 5.
Beautiful plant. Garden is looking great. When I went to my local native nursery they showed me where they had planted that one so I would know where the name (weed) come from. She said are you sure you want that. Really glad she showed me LOL. It is beautiful though. I love purple. Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving.
Thanks Rhea! Happy belated Thanksgiving to you too! Waiting to see what happens with this one! It so far has had a tall stem and is leaving lots of space at its base so I’ll be watching 😳
My native nursery was not as honest as yours. I showed them my area was small. I asked how many should I get. They said they grow up not wide. So I said, what about 3? As I read up on it, I planted it in a front yard bed, which has room. But I'm going to have to be really careful, as I don't want a weedy look. I didn't want to throw it out. I hope I'll like it.
I love your garden. Another beautiful native.
Thank you Lauren! ☺️
Really enjoying your videos. I’ve been doing a native butterfly garden for the past 4 months. Where can I get iron weed or the others your planting? Is there a native nursery you get them from? Thanks!
Such a pretty flower, I need more stuff for shade, ( see my garden video I just put out) if you want LOL its a beginers garden LOL
LOL! I’ll have to do a shady plant project at some point! I’ll check out the video later today! 😄
A great addition to any native garden. Very nice. May I ask where to get giant ironweed or it seeds ? Keep up the great work. Thank you
Thanks Hemang 😄 I got mine from Wilcox in Largo but you may find seeds on the Florida Wildflower Foundation’s websites. Hope that helps 😄
I've bought my plant at my local rockledge garden center but they only had it once. It grows wild along us1 but I've only seen it in Indian River and some parts of Volusia County.
Really enjoy your videos. I’ve been doing a native butterfly garden for the last 4 months or so. Where can I find iron weed? Or the others you use. Is there a native nursery you use?
I’m so glad you have been enjoying. I get my natives from Wilcox in Largo
