Well, it's very interesting to hear his perspective of the early print runs. That dispels any myth that they have a massive vault full of vintage sealed product.
How come every time I watch a Vintage MTG video this goober interrupts as soon as something interesting starts being talked about. You've got a guy who has real insight and could share interesting stories but instead the entire video is circle-jerking about zomg so rare. The last video you ruined was the guy who had the misprint collection. Yes super cool to see them, but I want to hear the stories! Let your guests talk and actually listen to them.
At this point the game of magic becomes pointless because everyone forgets about how fun the game is and just fix their eyes on the value. Kinda obvious from Pete's pov.
That's actually a sad story. What dad takes away from you what you love most forever?? Also the timeline is confusing: assuming he is around 60 and built the deck in 93, means his dad took it away from him when he was around 35 something?
I want to see the show about how and why Peter decided to print 400mm fallen empires and who knows how many homelands cards when they probably could just as easily print more of the earlier sets. From a business standpoint, why weren't they trying to maximize the monetization of the product? Did they think that FE and Homelands would sell out, over another print run of the so called "unlimited" edition? Why did they choose to not go back to the well and print something that would sell better?
If you watch Alpha Investments, he has explained why earlier cards weren't reprinted. Has to do with the secondary market, financial side..blah blah blah
Know this is a few years late, but I’m watching this now and looking at comments. Yes, when Magic first came out, you could have more than 4 copies of a card. The only requirement for deck building, was your deck has to be a minimum of 40 cards
I gave away 2 binders full of 1st edition set to some random guy at value village cause he was a die hard magic guy wow if I could turn back time. I had doubles triples 4s 5s so many cards it would blow your mind the black lotus yeah I had two I had no fucking idea what I gave away it haunts me everyday biggest mistake of my life
I want to apologize to the Magic community for my stupidity here. I initially thought this was a deck tech... until I looked closer and upon inspection realized these are ALL POWER 9 CARDS. MY JAW IS LITERALLY ON THE FLOOR.
Lmaoo if his dad took that deck away 15 years ago.....buddy doesn't look that young....did he get his magic cards taken away above the age of 35? lol!!!!

A million dollars worth of Alpha cards on the table, and a glass of water just 12 inches away.
Thought I said it first you beat me by 6 hrs lol

Fantastic interview Dan and I was equally amazed at Peter's Euro-style Board game collection in the background shelves:) Many thanks to you + Brian.
Dave Weeks yeah I saw that too. Looks a little like my shelf.
Great vid would love to hear even more from Peters perspective of the early days of the game! So cool!
If you want that, there's an entire series of fireside chats where Peter interviews early WotC employees
out-fucking-standing. Thanks for posting, Daniel. Thanks Peter for the story!
Amazing stories, awesome deck one can only dream for! Thanks for sharing Dan

next time do the meter before the video. Was great convo, would have heard more. Wow vid though
Hill Giant and War Mammoth are the 2 best cards in the deck.
Awesome vid! Curios what Peter's thoughts on the reserve list

@@nathanquinn4180 The deck was hidden around the same time WOTC sold out to Hasbro.

If this is a million dollar set then wow what I gave away😭
Daniel, that table of cards is probably worth over 3 million if graded...isn't it?
Look at all these cards I will never get to even hold :)
I think maybe to them, the cards don’t “feel” like a million bucks just because they had it forever.

I’d take a loan out to buy that collection for $1 million.
Thanks.

That guys dad is the real MVP here. If he had not kept it away from him it may have been lost, stolen, or sold.
