Recorded in one take, reading the lyrics off a napkin and Karen Carpenter only 21 years old at the time! OTHERWORLDLY! The song reached #2 on the charts in 1971, following closely their other hits in 1970 "close to you" and "we've only just begun"...
Karen's, A Song For You... I Need To Be In Love... Goodbye To Love... My anthems for going through a bad time in my life but the songs pulled me through. "I'm a drummer who sings," is Karen's description of herself and she was WORLD CLASS in both!
I'm gonna say it...I saw the looks you were flashing each other. This type of music brings couples closer together and reminds you how lucky you are to have each other. You are such a gorgeous couple. In today's crazy world...hold each other tight and shoot for the stars. Sending you and yours blessings & peace.
Karen was known as "one take Karen," since the studio, they only needed 1 recording take from her, as she was always perfect. No Auto-tune on her either.
@@pamelastevens7877 Yes, Karen had the range. I just recently found 2 of their Demo recordings (links below) on TH-cam, when Karen was 16 years old. Even then, she had that "voice." She is missed by her fans. She left us too soon. She played those drums too. th-cam.com/video/BciD8PCpGB8/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/A_xpwP-QRQY/w-d-xo.html
So many rock and pop singers from the 1960’s through the 1980’s were quality voices and entertainers. Since the turn of the century you can’t know whether it’s the singer or musician, or the autotune!!
50 years later and she still gets me every time. Her ANGELIC voice is penetrating. Richard and Karen were an extremely talented pair. Feel fortunate to have grown up with Carpenters music. Check out Karens medley with the great Ella Fitzgerald. Masterpiece from two classy ladies!
Thank you for reacting to this Carpenters song. Yes, Luther sang his version in the late 80s or early 90s. I enjoy many female vocalists, but none touches my inside as does Karen. Richard is the arranger, and he's the one to make the sound of the Carpenters - and he really puts his sister, Karen in the center due to her voice and manner. She could also play the drums very well. Once again, thank you for your reaction. Please continue reacting to Carpenters songs. I hope you will also react to their version of "Masquerade" Peace.
@Brandon & Shante Reaction Okay y'all check this out, " Close to you " and " Bless the beast and the children " are two great songs from the Carpenters that won't disappoint. Karen Carpenter and that beautiful voice always makes you feel good.
When people are talking about the best female singer they need to go back a few years, I for one think Karen Carpenter stands out from today's female artists. I definitely think she is a far more superior singer than the likes of Adele, that is my point of view. R.I.P Karen Carpenter..
Come'on now! It was a girl that fell in love with the performer. He sang songs that said he loved someone (her). She saw him a couple times, and she fell in love "after the second show".
OK I would no joke love to motown this song and have a classic act like Gladys Knight & the Pips to run with this song. The song is great. But lets give it some Pips. Get Bruno Mars on this joint!!
Many consider Karen Carpenter the FINEST FEMALE VOICE EVER RECORDED. Including Sir Paul McCartney. Why can’t you acknowledge the greatness of a gifted singer who, sadly, died from anorexia complications when she was only 32 years old? You should be in REVERENCE of the enormous talent this girl possessed. What a loss to the world. RIP Karen Carpenter 1950-1983…
Actually, the Carpenters weren’t even the first. There are a few other versions out there inc. Bonnie & Delaney, Luther, and Bette Midler. But the Carpenters had the most success with it, making it to #2 on Hot 100
Karen Carpenter is IMHO the best singer and singer/drummer you will ever hear. She brings tears everytime
Bonester...and the reactors do very lil of her. Some of her most beautiful songs were non hits!!
She was a classy, beautiful gal with one of the SEXIEST bedroom voices!! Such a loss
The CARPENTERS version of Superstar was released in 1971 Luther Vandross was released in 1983

There was no autotune in the 1970’s!
She was a 4 octave contralto with perfect pitch.

Read her story, go down that rabbit hole and get to know her and then listen to the songs. Then you'll know her pain. 😢
The Carpenters one of the top selling artist of all time and my favorite song of them timeless rest in peace Karen Carpenter

This tune was written by the late, great , Tulsa native ,Leon Russell ...It's about a groupie.

And all natural - no auto tune

No one comes close to Karen except maybe Dolores Oriordan, however as for tone & pureness the title belongs to Karen (RIP)

I can’t believe you didn’t play the live version.
Another great song but all the songs from The Carpenters are great, Karen had such a beautiful voice; a different reactor always says “Her Voice”
Yes!

Omg! I thought this was an original song by Luther Vandross!
I knew someone was going to write that comment. :)

She was only 20 when this song came out. Amazing.
