THEE wedding song of the 70s and these decades later... "we've only just begun" was a huge hit, following their first hit "close to you" in 1970.. Karen and her brother Richard did all of the background vocals as well. Karen was only 20 years old at the time with a voice like that! A voice for the ages, a voice that comes around only 2 generations or more....

With a voice like hers the backing band could be playing kitchen utensils and it would still be a great listen. Karen had profound "Timbre"... she really stood alone. Till this day...no one comes close... You will love "Goodbye To Love".

Her voice ( contralto ) was a natural gift; don't think she even took any lessons. Her top-notch drumming, on the other hand, took years of dedicated effort. To see the results, you have only to watch/listen to their '76 tv special w/ the segment of her drum solo number. - unbelievable !

The purest voice of all, Karen is just so good & Richard's arrangements make it even better, no added voices just themselves.

The song was written by Paul Williams (played Little Enos in the movie Smokey and the Bandit). It was for a bank commercial showing a young couple getting married, and just beginning their life together. When Richard Carpenter saw the commercial he loved the song. So he contacted Paul Williams asking about the song and if Karen and him could record it. Mr. Williams say YES, for he knew Karen's great voice. Here is the original commercial with Paul Williams singing it. From 1970

Paul Williams was no slouch when it came to writing great songs. Besides "We've Only Just Begun" , Paul wrote songs for Three Dog Night ("An Old Fashioned Love Song"), "You and Me Against The World" (Helen Reddy), "The Rainbow Connection" (Kermit The Frog, Muppets), plus two other songs covered by The Carpenters ("Rainy Days and Mondays", "I Won't Last A Day Without You").

Very much about a romantic relationship. The fact that the harmonies become more prevalent as the song goes on, is proof. Very much a song of new love. But also a relevant tale of something sustained. A time defying admiration and adoration. Every day knowing that you love, but never really beginning to understand what it means to reach the summit. But given sufficient time, love will remind you. And on its schedule.

Well y’all, the setup was courtesy of The Ed Sullivan Show which I used to watch with my grandmother when I was a small child☺️They did those kinds of setups with with most all of the popular acts that they had on the show and something else I had forgotten about this song that I always liked was the drums 🥁which by the way, was also Karen😇 She was a very accomplished drummer as well!! I often wonder how many more “beautiful” things might’ve come from that voice had she not left this world so young 😔😌 but at least we have this right 🎶🎼🎤

I grew up listening to The Carpenters I was lucky to meet them in late 70's Richard played piano sang HARMONY with his sister. Richard is still living at age 76 but Karen died at age 32 of anorexia causing her to have heart failure. When they were on the road managers would tell her that she was fat n that started it all. I forgot to check your playlist but will tell some other singers I loved React to Righteous Brothers " You've Lost That Loving Feeling " Soul and Inspiration" n "Unchanged Melody " They were called blue eyed soul brothers, not real brothers just good friends There was Bobby Hatfield ( tenor) n Bill Medley ( baritone) Bobby died around 2003 but Bil is still singing in his 80's I only got to meet Bill a few years ago n was so good to his fans. I'm sorry about my long comment but I miss the days back then NO AUTOTUNE JUST PURE VOCALS I will tell you another singer I loved next time. Keep up the good work n can't wait to see more videos. I think you both will be in my top 10 favorite channels as I can see that you love music
