I've been growing carnivorous plants and cacti and weird and wonderful plants for 43 years since I was a kid. Got Darlingtonia californica in an outdoor bog near London, UK, no cold running water, full sun, no problems, it loves it. Got 35 year old Astrophytums and Ariocarpi, many from seed, including Ariocarpus agavoides. Pelecyphora, Geohintonia, etc. Love these videos!

A few years back I bought a few books offline from a guy. When I stopped out at his house, he had a huge private library filled with fossils. He had been a geologist for somewhere around forty plus years. We got to talking and he gave me part of a fossilized leg bone from a dinosaur for a coworker's kid. Can't blame you for looking down if you end up taking awesome shit home.
Who is this kind botanist, who takes time to rescue and help a pitiful little orphaned coyote. Thank you whoever you are. Love the flowers and plants, but I REALLY love coyotes.

To begin, due to my attention span limitations, I am working my way through your more brief presentations until they run out then I will get around to the more involved ones... When I saw the title I thought oh, Darlingtonia? OK sure! Little did I know, it would be the pup rescue that I have heard so much about!!! Well all I can say is watching with my eyes full of tears, I can see why so many people are obsessed and moved by your compassionate efforts to save that little guy! (And yes, I do know how that story ended... Very sad!)... On to Darlingtonia!!! Hands down one of my favorite creatures on the planet!!! What's not to love? The close-up of the flowers was really great!!! Never saw it in habitat before! Just a marvel of physical expression!!! I have a long time interest in plant deception! From Darlingtonia to Sarracenia, to Aristolochia, to Ceropegia, to and Nepenthes, (did I forget any?) All of whom employ deception along with Orchids, Asclepiads, the various parasites, I consider them all to be a higher level of strategic functioning in the vegetative world!!! Since the marks, patsys, chumps, and suckers most definitely preceded the deceptors, that indicates that they are newer entities in the general scheme of things... Human cultural practices seem to also reflect this pattern of development and evolution! Not exactly comforting or encouraging as far as what the future of "humanity" is concerned!!! (Can't worry about that now, I will be long dead and gone by the time it reaches it's final conclusions)... However deception seems to be the most successful strategy for just about every living being!!! Although I have seen Xerophyllum Tenax in habitat, never in bloom... Are they very fragrant? Looks like it should be... Which brings me to the Wild Azalea, Rhododendron Californica... You neglected to mention the fabulous, powerful, heavenly fragrance!!! People need to know about the many beneficial aspects of plants! When I stick my nose into an Azalea flower, I am transported to another realm!!! I truly get a high from it!!! Nothing really like it in the world!!! I have never seen nor heard of that Hastingia before!!! Had no idea there were any members of the Agave family in Northern California! What a surprise!!! Wish we could have seen the open flowers, maybe you have another video of that? I will see... In my previous many hikes and travels around California, I have collected quite a few Sedums... And yes the variety of species is indeed impressive!!! However many must be utterly dependant on their local conditions, because most of the ones I brought back home with me didn't really last very long... They would hang in there for awhile but eventually just "give up the ghost" and poop out on me for reasons unknown!!! But that is the risk one takes when bringing home every cute, charming, promising botanical wonder found along the way!!! (I will likely rot in Hell for eternity for all of the plants that have died under my "care"!!!) Thanks to you I learned a new word today! Sclerophyllic (sp)? I didn't know what the process of hardening off was called! Being an expert at hardening various appendages of the male anatomy, I can get some use out of a word like that!!! Let me just say, as a fellow who crawls around on my knees often, I hear you... the older I get the more difficult it becomes to be on my knees for a very long time at all!!! This just showed up in my recommended list today. Big fan of carnivorous plants, and an avid gardener. I'm in Rhode Island, and enjoy our lovely swamp pitcher plants. We also have that wild azalea here, or a near relative- common name "swamp honeysuckle," wonderfully fragrant! Similarly, my daughter and I have been accused of taking too long while hiking, because we HAVE to stop and examine, and/or "poke" things. Nice job with the coyote! I never learned the names for many of the plants but it gives me pure joy learning about the flora of my home. I recognize almost all by sight. I live in Indiana now and its an entirely different world of plants. Your video made me homesick but I'll get home eventually. 😉

One of the coolest professors I ever had discovered a new species of these and did tons of research on them. Taught a class on quantum physics and other esoteric shit like that and said it was very important to "study" while making the gesture of hitting a joint.

One thing that helps calms cats, and probably dogs, is to very slowly blink. It's a social signal of calmness. And then they bite you anyway. But they aren't stressed about doing so. ;)

As a biology student I wasn't that interested in botany as a specialty field before, but god damn that's some diversity.
3hr to hike one mile because you're looking at the ground the whole time. I was in a similar position when backpacking in the Sierras as a geologist.

I bought a native Darlingtonia 20 years ago. Sold at a Nursery in a plastic bag. Pre internet. It couldn't have died faster if I tried. Imagine them dug up and packaged.
