She's a smart singer with a fine voice who makes you feel something. That pure ooo in the upper chest is something a lot of singers avoid, so they adjust the vowel; but Deborah nailed it with solid resonance. And, she looks fantastic!
I just watched the entire performance on Tamron Hall show and I am blown away.. This reminded me of a early 90's Whitney Houston performance. Deborah is shining brightly and I believe this will be a turning point role for her career.. What is so amazing about singing is that you can can improve with time.. Deborah Cox sounds better today than she did 25 years ago...
In a weird way..Deborah’s voice is what I imagine Whitney’s voice would’ve been like post 94 had she been able to heal properly from the bodyguard tour. The overall texture of her voice gives 96-97 Whitney but the power is a lot like 94 Whitney.
@@mctcurious Yep and you can tell she was referencing the VH1 99 Divas performance. I played that for my mom a while back and she swore up and down it was Whitney
Oh my gosh, I learned SO much about the voice just from this analysis. What a beautifully technical, yet completely relatable/useful, deconstruction of Deborah Cox's powerful rendition of this song. Thank you, Jaron!
I never thought I would enjoy someone analyzing someone else’s singing so much! Wow! This is fantastic! Would you pleeeeeease do a video analyzing Shirley Caesar, especially in her older age? I would love it! 😀
I would guess you've seen &/or heard the television version of "The Wiz Live" and the Uzo Aduba rendition of this song. I think it blew me away because I only knew her from acting as Crazy Eyes in the TV show Orange Is The New Black and had no idea she could sing at all, let alone as well as she did on this song.
I had the opportunity to see her in The Wiz at the last Chicago show. She and the cast were phenomenal!! When she sings this, it brings chills and tears to my eyes! She's such a pure talent and so underrated!
Could you react to Diana's "Home" from the wiz. I love Stephanie and saw you did her already. But I think Diana whitney and Stephanie brought 3 different approaches to the song. Diana definitely brought out a different emotion in her version of home that I love. Whitney gave us a more colorful approach vocally. Stephanie stood 10 toes down as we saw in your previous analysis and just SANG.
I'm used to a more chesty, full voiced version of this song. I hear a lot of Celine, and she sounds like Tamar a bit. I think she's making some smart vocal choices here to preserve her voice.
I love Deborah's voice, she always sound so good but I have to say Lena Horne version is still better for me, the emotions got to me, with Lena I got teary eyed
Deborah and Tamia are brilliant vocalists. Such a shame they are not more mainstream.
My Deb is mainstream ❤️🙏🏽

Her and Whitney are chef’s kiss
Deborah has such a beautiful texture to her voice. Love anything she sings
I have loved Deborah's voice since Nobody's Supposed To Be Here. Luv ya Jaron & thanks as always for a phenomenal review 💜
Omgosh you can't TELL me Deborah don't believe in me!!! ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
I saw The Wiz live while it was Cleveland last month. Every singer KILLED every number.
Deborah’s voice is anointed and blessed. 100% pure talent and gift. Jaron’s voice is no chopped liver either, lol.
She's been amazing since the 90's
Time less voice...DE BOR AH..... NEVER missed honey 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾 she ain't new to this she's true to this
I friggin' love Tamron and Deborah's voice is prestine. Chilly bumps. This is one of my favorite songs from the Wiz😭❤️
Deborah Cox is a true vocalist!!! Both Deborah and Tamia are legends!! my Godmom, love her bunches ❤
Great analysis as usual Jaron!! Still in here wit cha! 👍😎🎶🎶🎶

@@kimberlyjade4094 I believe she sang ghost vocals for a Whitney biopic back in 2015 for exactly this reason.

Lord I’m at the barbershop & I just seen the preview whiles scrolling & got teary eyed

I loved Diana's because I grew up listening to Motown and the Wiz was my first time hearing her sing with her full chest and it blew me away.
@JBeezyJesusFreak FACTS, it blew me away, too. I was like I knew she had it in her, lol.
I am just as impressed with the vocals teachers singing as well!
She has a beautiful voice
Saw her when The Wiz was in DC! She was incredible
Yass Yass ABSOLUTELY YES
One of m6 favorite vocalist
Hi Jaron. Im not sure if you did a video for Lillie McCloud singing Alabaster box, but it’s beautiful.
Hey ! lol .... We need a vocal breakdown on Brandy's new song Christmas Party for Two . Love your channel ...❤❤❤
Deborah Cox is top tier and still so underrated. It would be interesting to know your thoughts on the original Lena Horne version too. 😊
Bravo Deborah Cox❤❤❤
what a beautiful song yu did a great job
Not many people can put me in the mind of Whitney but MANY of Deborah’s vocal choices have always given me 95-97 Whitney
Top 5 all day everyday. True instrument
Excellent ❤ I often loop certain singers in a time & place as Great ❤ Deborah Cox, Tamia, Heather Hadley, Vivian Greene....🎶
I love you videos thank you!
I do too!!!!!
QUEEN COX SLAYING VOCALLY FOR YEARS ESPECIALLY ALL HER DANCE SONGS IN GAY CLUB SCENE ❤
Deborah sang 💕
but Coach you sound fabulous too….💕
So underrated
I saw her in Chicago and she stole the show. The most amazing Glinda I have ever witnessed
Deborah always sounded a lot like Whitney to me. Deborah never disappoints
No one comes close to the Legendary Lena Horne, but Deborah took this song and made it her own. What a beautiful rendition
Sing Deborah
Thank you for this analysis. Debra has always been my top sangers since they late 90s
Check out Michael J. Woodards cover of this in the semifinals of American Idol. Young homie blew me away with his versión
Can you please analyze dream girls next??
Whitney taught her well

Deborah has been otherworldly ever since she started doing theater. They really conditioned her voice
Hi Jaron could you possibly analyze Lena Byrd Miles live tribute performance to the Clark sisters ❤
I love Deborah's voice, she always sound so good but I have to say Lena Horne version is still better for me, the emotions got to me, with Lena I got teary eyed
I've always thought Deb is the closest voice to Whitney sometimes more Whitney than Whitney lol
Not a fan of Deborah Cox
Absolutely beautiful! She's also one of the Producers of the Show! Great Analysis!👑🦚🎤🎹🎶🎵🎼💖💝💜❤️🩹❤️🩹💎🌹
