- So you’ve noticed your dog urinating blood. What does this mean? Is it bad? Will it go away on its own? Watch this video as I’ll be giving you the top 8 most common causes of bloody urine in dogs as well as how it can be diagnosed, treated, and prevented.
As a veterinarian, I often see dogs presenting to the clinic with blood coming out of their private parts and pet owners looking very concerned. And rightfully so, as this is an indication that there is some serious underlying problem.
Hematuria is a fancy scientific name that basically means “blood in urine”. There are many different causes that make it difficult to quickly get to the exact diagnosis, and thus it often requires extensive tests following a systematic approach.
As a general rule of thumb, if your dog is peeing blood for more than 24 hours he should be seen by a vet. If the dog is completely unable to pass urine, it is an emergency and needs to be taken to the vet as soon as possible as this can become fatal if left untreated.
You are your dog's first line of defense to their health, so careful monitoring of their urinary habits and discussions with your vet is pertinent to their well-being.

Ty doc my baby has been peeing with boody pee. He is 7 yrs old male mixed dacshund.
My Shepard is 6 years old and has spent most of her life in the kennel where she breeder. We have had her going on for three weeks now. Noticed she is in heat and has spots of blood in her urine. Is this common? We never had a dog being in the heat all of the ones we had has been spayed or neutered. Sammy is not spayed but we are going to spay her when her heat cycle is over

Had undergone cystotomy.. tail amputation n neutering 1.5 months back
Since den he is having hematuria.. urinalysis showing uti n triple phosphate crystals.. he has been on antibiotics from last 21 days but blood doesn’t go away.. it stops in between for one and two days n comes back..
ultrasound was done but there is nothing else other than uti n crystals
He is on urinary s/o diet

I will take my baby to the vet but I’m going to write her symptoms (and later her diagnosis made by her veterinarian).
3 days ago I have seem her a little down (not barking as usual), she drinks water (has 3 water bowls) and poops/pees the same. But yesterday she peed a little but it was kinda of coca cola with water color. Then she peed as normal, yellowish. Later that day in the night she peed red, didn’t look that liquid but it wasn’t a very vivid red it was kinda red. Put a diaper on her that night to track the folor of her pee but color was normal (she since 5 months ago has incontinence due to being sterilized (more than 1 year and a half since being then started to have the issues). Everything normal pee normal, made poop as usual (no blood on poop). No pain, no discomfort or anything abnormal but just a little down (less barking than usual). Then in the morning she peed a little brown again. Taking her to the vet, when i have her results I’m gonna update. Wish me luck! 🍀 hope she is not sick or have serious issues

I brought my thirteen-year-old husky mix into the Vet recently because she was leaking urine. They did a urine analysis, senior blood panel, and x-rays and everything came back normal. They put her on phenylpropanolamine for incontinence. Now two weeks later she urinated a puddle of blood. So tomorrow she goes back as an emergency.
Oh wow. So sorry you’re going thru this. Any update? I searched this bcuz my shihtzu spots sometimes but it hasn’t been constant or consistent. Her mom, my other shih just passed in November kinda suddenly of kidney/liver failure from being late stage diabetic and her doc strangely missed it. But the vet got too much money from me with her tests and procedures and meds and everything under the sun and I still had to pay payments on her cremation.
@@legacythone she has a bad urinary tract infection. She doesn't have a history of these. The vet says these can become more common as dogs get older. So she's on Clavamox antibiotic. How old is your shih tzu?
I found out today that she has cancer. She has a soft tissue sarcoma on her abdomen. Maybe the cancer was affecting her immune system and that's why she got an UTI.
She passed away today

my dog has hematuria, I have taken him to the doctor but the doctor just said that my dog is just not drinking enough. When my dog is not drinking enough, the color of the urine will be dark yellow and finally I followed the doctor's advice to give him lots of water but my dog still doesn't want to drink a lot of water, I finally gave beef stew. the color of the urine changes to light yellow but the fishy smell of urine is still there

Try a cup of green tea, 1 Tab dark honey 15 mls per 10 lbs body weight, 5-10 days. You can also add 1 tab vinegar.
