Downtown EP0.1 | Hood Set Up: Playable Townies with Families | The Sims 2

- Downtown has been on my mind lately, and rather than keeping my set up process to myself, I thought I could bring you along for the ride. This is basically the same set up that I did before starting to play Pleasantview, so it can be treated as a "behind the scenes" to that series. But if you want me to add in a let's play of Downtown, let me know, I'd be happy to!

for jon smith tricou's teen children, simpe defaulted to both parents being set as 'parent a' when you were editing the family ties, which is why only jon smith shows up. if you change the mothers to 'parent b', they should also show up in the family tree i think

Also, the issue with the John Smith teens was that you need a Parent A and a Parent B set up on family ties, otherwise the game won’t register it. John and their mothers were set as all Parent A, hope that helps! Though I’m sure you already figured it out x
I would LOVE a let’s play with a hood from the beginning! I’m so awestruck with how detailed your pleasant view is and would love to see a hood from the start!

i would definitely enjoy a downtown let's play, I'm not all that familiar with the downtownies and it would be fun to see how you interpret their characters. I've got the perfect pleasantview with cleaned up and renamed downtownies by pleasant sims but i got a bit overwhelmed trying to play everyone in pleasantview, bluewater village, uni and downtown at once, so playing downtown on it's own sounds like a great way to really learn about the characters. Lmao I love your spreadsheets for the sims, that's the kind of organization i can only aspire to. I'm really excited to see all these families you've put together. And all the lot makeovers, this will be great.
Thank you so much for the input, Kalika, I'm happy to hear that it's something you'd be interested in ❤🥰 Yeah I can definitely see how it could be overwhelming with too much going on - that's actually the reason why I don't play in any subhoods in my own Pleasantview because I have similar experiences from past custom hoods too. I love the thought of a Uberhood, it's a really cool concept, but at the end of the day it's got to be fun playing too. Haha the spreadsheet turned out very intense for this planning process lol 😂

This is great! I always wondered how you started Pleasantview (setting up the families and so on) so I’m glad to see this kind of video. I also am surprised to see how simple it is to fix the broken templates. For some reason I convinced myself it was really complicated lol

Now that I'm almost finished watching the video I must say that some months ago I did something similar with the downtownies but with the Pleasantview townies and safe NPCs included but I didn't know about the recesive genes! So that's something I can add to my hood, and I also learned a few things. You even ended up with a few families exactly as me hahaha. Let's see how the video ends and if you teach us some more things hahaha. I'm really excited to see if you make a series out of this and how you manage it from scratch 😊

Love love love this! Maybe you could name the main hood “Down Town” with a space so the game accepts it but it’s still downtown
Thank you ❤🥰 That would probably work, but it would bug me too much that it wasn't spelled right - I'm too much of a perfectionist when it comes to linguistics unfortunately. It's OK, Driftwood could have its own purposes down the line, who knows 😊

Ooooh i LOVED this!!! I would 100% watch this if you made it into another let's play! When I first discovered your plstv series I was hooked and had to try the same for myself. I did not move in the townies because I did not want to play through so many families each rotations but I did fix their recessive genes and create family units, and I would roll each rotation to see how they progress (dates, weddings, births, deaths, etc.). And lately I've been thinking about starting over and this time including them in my rotations. I think I'll go ahead and do it just now haha. Oh and thanks for explaining all this about SimPE, this is very educative ! Tack så mycket :D
Tack så mycket, Émie 🥰 That's a great solution to keep things interesting whiles still keeping your rotations short ⭐ Love it! But I can definitely vouch for the townies being very fun to play with as well, so I bet you'll have a lot of fun making them playable ❤

No need to hate your spreadsheets, they're only good for being useful after all and if you have good use for them, they are by definition good🥰

I got scared when you started deleting the bin families. But I'm excited to see what happens.. in this episode and future episodes (totally not commenting at the deleti9n of the bin families) though its gonna be interesting for me to catch up with pleasantview and watch this one

This was so interesting and fun to watch. Very inspiring - Ive been wanting to do a hood with premade townies since I started watching you, and now Im thinking how cool it would be to move the PV townies into one hood and attach downtown and move these guys in too... Love it. I do hope that you decide to film your gameplay for us but I would totally understand if you didnt too 🥰❤️
I'd have to add into the setup phase adding in traits, sexualities, setting up ACR... and then of course Sim makeovers and lot renovations!! It's a big job for sure but so worth it.
Also really appreciated seeing that table function in excel that Ive not used before 😮🤩 going to have to play around with it!!
Thank you 🥰 That sounds like a great idea! There's so much fun to be had with the townies ❤ The Pivot table function is so great, I use it at work all the time lol, always love being able to utilize my real job skills for my Sims game 😂

Tricous, Tricous! I'm so excited to see what you do with them! Have you seen my lore video on them? (different account, annachibi2) I touch on the pronunciations in it. My research had the side effect of making them basically my favorite premade family lol!

I absolutely love Downtown! The last time I played it I attached it to Pleasantview and Swan Teens randomized name led her to have the last name Langerak. So my lore addicted brain decided to write it that Kaylynn was probably the maid of the Tricou family and probably seduced (or got seduced by) Jon Smith Tricou and had Swan as a result 😂.
Also fun facts about Downtownies: they are the only townies that come with accessories on since Nightlife introduced accessories. Another fact is that while all Downtownies start with a neutral sexual preference, both Mr. Big and the Diva start off as straight
Omg that is such a great match though! Swan totally looks like she could be Kaylynn's kid ❤ I had something similar happen in Pleasantview: a child townie randomly got the last name Ebadi - so naturally she had to become Jessica's daughter 😂 I just love when the game throws little random curve balls at you like that.

I really liked this insite on how you set up Townie Gameplay! Your Pleasantview gameplay inspired me to do it myself and in the past I have gone through a very chaotic hood set up. I have included some of the npc with same name or same genetics/face templates as well, if it made sence for me.
What I didn't do in the past was the recessive genes setup and I really like this idea so one giant simpe session is comming up :D
Thank you for this insite and your inspiring gameplay in general! I would love to see this as a lets play series, because I never played with the downtown at all. I didn't liked the idea of so many new characters as townies without playing them, so it would be nice seeing it.

Just wanted to ask, is there any particular reason you chose to use the regular Downtown subhood instead of a main hood version (like using meetme2theriver’s template)?
Thank you! 🥰❤ Good question! I suppose it's just old habit - I've been playing with the game since it came out and have only ever just used the hoods generated naturally in game. Since I've never had any issues with them, I haven't seen any reason to do it differently I suppose, but then I don't know much about the "clean templates" either.
@@AniBats the clean templates fix things like the broken face templates and memories, makes unborn baby broke actually genetically related to skip broke (he's a clone of brandi, but with clean templates he can be born blonde, female, or even twins), that sort of thing! I would suggest using them but that's up to your discretion of course

I'd LOVE to follow along on another playthrough of yours. You've already made this hood seem more interesting than it ever did when I only glanced over it. And I love your detailed and in-depth approach to every character, so I can't wait to hear what kind of stories you come up with for this hood. ❤ It will be lovely seeing you bring these characters to life. I haven't played with many of them, most of them disappeared into my family tree as sort of ancestors when I was cleaning up SimsVille and I used clean templates for all of the other hoods, so this might be my only chance of getting to know them, since I'm not planning on starting more hoods anytime soon. 😅
It really made me smile when I saw your excel sheet with the pictures of the sims on it, because I did the exact same thing (behind the scenes) when I tried out different combinations for the Pleasantview Townies before making that video about them. It's handy, because you can shift them around until it looks like you want it to. For a second there I thought I was looking at my own Excel doc. Really confusing for a sec, 😂 especially since I was sick that week and a bit feverish, so I wasn't really watching with a clear mind the first time. It was however perfect timing and nice entertainment during that week. It's really enjoyable to watch you put all these details together for a new project and seeing your thought process.
Being stuck to my home also gave me a chance to watch the machinima convention mostly live, which was such a great tip and perfect for inspiration! Your trailer looked so amazing and would have totally made me check out the series if I wasn't watching it already. Really cool to see it in between all the other stuff! 😍
And that's a really smart way of using the pivot tables! Will have to remember that if I ever do something like that again.

My watchlist keeps growing and growing. 😅Also really interesting to hear everyone's thought process, how much work goes into these series and how close the process is to making movies.
Haha I can imagine getting nervous at that moment. 😄 But it really was awesome, with the music and everything. It really impressed and caught the attention. Like it really "entered", right from the beginning. Or jumped from the screen - for lack of better words right now. 😊 But I do remember thinking it captured the series perfectly.

I loved this video! Have been rewatching it already. You’ve given me inspiration to do something similar. Got a question though, when you plan out the families, do you consider their face templates/facial features as well, like large nose, small lips and such, or do you ‘just’ go by skin/hair/eye color?

I adore your videos! I recently discovered your channel because I was feeling nostalgic for The Sims 2. However, I have a suggestion that I believe would enhance the experience. Currently, only your voice is audible, and the game sounds such as the voices of the Sims and their actions are not present. This makes it a bit less immersive. I would greatly appreciate it if you could consider incorporating the game sounds into your videos. Thank you!

I have severeal reasons why I have chosen not to include sounds - one of them being my editing style not lending itself well to having game sound competing with my voice one moment and then completely cut off as I speed up the footage the next. But again, I really appreciate the suggestion, thank you for asking!
The money cheat... how do you have it for that? Ive seen pleasantsims use it and now you.. is there a way to get that cus pleasantsims used it for when there were multiple households with same name
Hmm I used three money cheats in this video technically:
Motherlode - typing it in will give the active family 50 000 simoleons
Familyfunds - typing in "familyfunds [family name] [total amount]" will set said family's funds to that total amount. This can only reliably be used if the family has a unique name, otherwise you won't know which family will get the money until you try it.
Money - this cheat only becomes available if you unlock the "Allmenus cheat" which includes modifying one of the game files. More information on that here: sims.fandom.com/wiki/Game_guide:Allmenus_cheat

A few years ago I created a list to find and track their age again, and then I turned it into a table, but I guess I may not have completely taken note of each family's age at the beginning of the game. I'm not sure. I don't want to reset the game recording, I've gone too far in families. Do you have a list that shows how many days families stay in days or how many days are older than each other? Or, you know a list that someone else created. I think I haven't played sims 2 in 2 years and now I'm afraid to open the game to avoid doing anything wrong, I'm afraid to disrupt the whole order. Can you help me or can you give an advice for that?🙏🏻🍀Especially Desiderata valley, Riverblossom Hills, Belladonna Cove, Downtown , College Towns, Bluewater Village. I've tried to find others in the beginning of the video and found some of them but I don't know much because they usually don't know much about these worlds but ofc if I find the age record of all the original worlds in The Sims 2 put it back into a list and play it, I'll enjoy it more and there won't be any confusion. Please help me with this.

@@AniBats Actually I didn't play with round but 2 years ago I had got many family members and it was little bit confused me so I decided to try that and thanks for advice . Also suprisingly When I started game I realized I already coppied all towns so I can check from there but now I have got a bigger problem . I have got Sims 2 Ultimate Collection. Few days ago I started the game and I didn't even save anything but today it's not working I got some error on screen. Game didn't start just EA launch opened and I tried start on launch but it didn't work. Sims 2 just in EA games launcher Origin isn't usefull anymore but I couldn't find config file and other things can you help about that what can I do?🙏🏻 It's not working I got some error on EA Games Launch screen "you can double click on game tiles to quickly launch a game" Please can you help me?🙏🏻

If you own the nightlife expansion pack, you already have it. It's just Downtown
Loving this! But Ani, you can’t delete families from the bin 💀💀💀💀💀 corruption is on sight, I’m afraid. Please install an empty template for the subhoods that include those bin families so that they won’t show up for you but never EVER delete ANY sim from the bin 🫠
