Bruh, if the Wii and HD version devs had worked together on at least the final boss, imagine how insane a combined version of both would be. Where you go after dark Gaia in the Gaia Colossus, and once you get there you have to fight him. Then once you do that you have to go through a sonic section rinse and repeat three times. Then once you finish that you have to take down his shield, then you save chip, and fight dark Gaia as super sonic, taking down his eyes one by one. Just imagine that
Anyone notice that perfect dark gaia is the only thing so far that decreases the amount of rings super sonic has by harm. This maybe the strongest thing in the entire sonic series.
cybranify I didn't either, but I saw a video that went through the differences of Sonic 3 and Sonic 3&K. That was one of the most notable differences that the original Sonic 3 had that was patched out of Sonic 3&K.
When I was 10 or whenever it was, the Super Sonic part of the boss was super difficult to me. I was playing the game for about 6 hours in one day before I beat it. I then came back to it 4 years later and beat it one try... :/
me and my friend spent an entire day trying to beat it on the ps2. He got so pissed he started crying and searched up videos why SEGA sucked. It was hilarious.
I nailed this boss back when I first got this version of Unleashed. Though the final phase looked cheesy in its execution, it's still extremely heroic to know that the lesser Wii/PS2 version had you go head to head with Perfect Dark Gaia in an up close match with Super Sonic. The HD version could have used that for the final phase of the final boss, instead of just finishing him off with one boost to the eye.
I honestly feel that this version was WAY too easy. I love these fights as they are, but could you imagine if they incorporated both versions in some way? For example, it could have started by trying to approach him like in the HD Version as you dodge the fireballs and lazers along the way. Once you reach him, you slug it out like in this Version. After a third of Dark Gaia's health depletes, carry on with the QTEs and the running sequences. Rinse and repeat until all of his health is depleted. As for Perfect Dark Gaia, it could start by approaching him like in the HD Version, and breaking the shield. Afterwards, the QTEs would commence as normal until where the final blow takes place. Instead of using Super Sonic to hit the big eye and have that be it, have Super Sonic take out ALL 7 of the eyes after all the QTEs involving setting the Gaia Colossus free of his grip. Once Super Sonic pokes out all 7 eyes, the fight would end. If this sounds like a much better what-if fight, let me know! :D
ima flat out say my opinion thats bound to be flamed by wii/ps2 haters. Man i thought this boss fight was better than the 360/PS3 cause ur actually fighting dark gaia instead of the shield.
Gameplay wise the Xbox controls were annoying when I first played it at a friends hoist I couldn't find out how to homeing attack then he told me it was jump then the x button
GangstaKenny10 There are some parts that are better. If the fight with it's perfect form didn't suck shit in a 2d position so badly then i'd be more inclined to agree

I freaking LOVE Dark Gaia. Throwing hands on this dude was so satisfying. With the argument of which is better I say this: If they combined the shield part, and this charging part AFTER you break the shield while hes still shooting at you would have been SICK.
I liked this fight over the Xbox/Ps3 one. It feels more "Super Sonic" to me. My only complaint with the Wii version is that you boost in sections and for a few seconds instead of holding the boost down and running as long as you had gauge. Oh yea, Gamecube controller for the win!

Yeah, the Wii version did bring joy. The one downfall is the ring drainage. I know that's how Super Sonic works, but I like how in PS3/360, the rings are your endless life force and you collect more to fill the gauge. It's so sad to see a awesome game to be belittle by critics. Both version are awesome!

The people trying to defend the God awful PS3 boss fight are so adorable. This is MUCH better. So what if the other one is HD? The Gameplay there is terrible.
LSSJOrangeLightning I disagree. I much prefer the HD version final boss mainly because Super Sonic is given a lot of free space to float around and evade stuff. The boss fight is more open and I love the cinematic feel of the fight. Apart from the Gaia Colossus punching part, I find the Wii version too clunky and cramped. Feels way too static and limited. I can understand why some people may prefer the final boss due on Wii due to it being easier but it’s nowhere near as interesting or engaging as the HD version.
Here is where what I think would make this boss better. . . First: You as the Gaia Colossus must dash to Dark Gaia while he throws Earth chunks to you and you either punch or block to defend yourself. After you pass them, you get to your first punch out mission which consist of it swatting at you. After the punch out mission you go through the first Sonic mission to save chip before Dark Gaia charges himself and fires an immense amount of energy. . Second: You resume to the punch out mission, but this time you are further than him a bit because he grabs a chunk of Earth rocks to bash you with, doing a bit more damage than he would swatting at you. You either defend yourself, (but you still receive some damage) or dodge the hand with a rock while Dark Gaia tries to hit you with it. Then you punch him when open to attacks, but before he can use rock or swat you again. Finally, you go into the next Sonic mission because Dark Gaia tries to attack Chip again. . Third: You go into another punch out mission, but this time Dark Gaia tries to use two rocks and use them like boxing gloves and you'll take twice the damage if you get hit with them twice (even if you defend yourself). If you manage to break or dodge both, you can get a punch or dodge Dark Gaia's swats before he resumes to hitting you. After you defeat him, you go into the final Sonic mission to save Chip once again. . . Perfect Dark Gaia . First: You dash towards Perfect Dark Gaia as Super Sonic while collecting rings to fill up your health bar before killing the snake tentacles to disable the shield. . Second: Perfect Dark Gaia would then try to kill Chip by grabbing onto him and blasting him away or into pieces. You would have to use your quick time events to get 6 of his arms off the Gaia Colossus. Finally, you as the Gaia Colossus, must hold off the blast of energy he uses against you. After you do that, he punches Perfect Dark Gaia. . Third: You as Super Sonic have to fight off Perfect Dark Gaia in a punch out mission again, but you have to dash to one of his eyes. However, the middle eye would be invincible until you defeat the other eyes first. Even if you aim for one of the eyes, you still got to dodge floating rocks. After you defeat Dark Gaia, your results show before a cut scene of its death.
The Sonic sections in this version I think are better since there’s no time limit like in the 360/PS3 version. Also the 2nd phase is much better as it’s more of an actual boss than just a series of strict QTE’s. Also you get a rank the 1st time you play it.
I actually suck at the boxing part, but I still love this fight. It actually seems better than the 360's, from what I've seen. And the sweet BGM doesn't hurt Awesome job on this boss, Overhazard.
Never played this version, but does anybody think that the perfect dark gaia of this version is a LOT like the Nega Mother Wisp from Sonic Colors DS? (I can't be the only one who played that version too) Maybe it's because they were both made by Dimps? It seems like Sonic games like to catch on each other
Personally the best part of this is just how when you land the final blow super sonic just crosses his arms and doesn't say a word while doing the whole "cool guys don't look at explosions" routine
It was cool when you can switch back with daytime and nighttime in one level, but if you get a game over, you have to start all over. The flying with Gaia Colossus was annoying, but hands down, the Super Sonic part was AWESOME in PS3/360!
I could never beat this boss fight on the Wii so i just gave up and found the ending online and watched it. after that I just sold the game because I was pissed that I couldn't beat it because the Wii controls for that finale fight was terrible everything else was fine but man that was bullshit that final boss.
***** No, the standard term is "controller." "Game pad," as two words, is a less common but acceptable term though. The Wii U controller with the screen is officially the "Wii U GamePad," and Nintendo has trademarked both that and "GamePad."
***** Hmm, interesting. I've grown up always calling them "controllers," but I've never been part of PC gaming. Everyone else I've spoken to calls them controllers too, like "NES controller," "Gamecube controller" or "PS2 controller." Maybe it's a regional thing. Also, upon looking it up, it looks like only "Wii U" is trademarked. However, the description for it on the official site calls it the "Wii U(TM) GamePad controller." The "G" and "P" are always capitalized.
The Wii U tablet controller is known as the Gamepad. You are right, you can call controllers gamepads, but that causes confusion with the Wii U controller and you can just say "controller"
Didn't you know that you don't need to wait for Dark Gaia to attack so that you're able to attack him?You can try to hit his eyes right away as long as you have some Boost builded up and the red mark appears on one of his eyes.
Ugh... out of every Sonic Final Boss Battle, this one is one of my least favorites. The fact that Super Sonic can't break through meteors is dumb, something he did with rocks in the intro to Sonic CD. It could've at least been 2 or 3 hits, and you get hit the 2nd or 3rd time you go back. And when he attacks, and you have to be in a specific spot for you to not get hit. i hate that attack. It's not hard, just dragged out, annoying as hell, and tedious.
***** But they are the same character, just from different time periods. Classic Sonic and Modern Sonic are basically the same exact character. Modern Sonic is more powerful than Classic Sonic, which shows that Modern Sonic is as powerful as Classic Super Sonic since the two have green eyes. Their personalities are the exact same. They're both cocky and snarky but will save their friends & care about them if something happens.
***** No,no and no In many different manuals in the classic games sonic is described as being a 15-16 years old That's a recent invention Sega made in Generations It's absolute bullshit The characters are completely different
I had a hunch someone would think like that. I've looked at both versions of this boss fight, and I can imagine people liking the Wii version better. The Xbox version looks more like you're just manually moving a cutscene along. Superior graphics aren't worth much if you don't have compelling gameplay to go with it.
Well, I'm glad you enjoyed it. haha I didn't like the Super Sonic part in that one because Sonic ends up being so small on the screen and doesn't actually fight Dark Gaia; Chip is the one who does most of the work. All Sonic does is boost toward Dark Gaia and take down a shield. You then defeat the boss with action commands. It looks cool but I like the fact that you actually fight Dark Gaia in the Wii version like a Super Sonic fight should work. It was simplistic and straight to the point. ^^
If they mixed together the final boss from the Wii/PS2 (SD) version and Xbox 360/PS3 (HD) version, it would be perfect. Here’s a step by step of how i’d want it to go: 1. Flying towards Dark Gaia (HD version, but we don’t repeat this section, unless you die before next part) 2. Fist fight against Dark Gaia as the Colossus (SD version) 3. Dark Gaia grabs the Colossus during the fight 3 times, and each time we hit one of it’s eyes as Sonic (HD version) 4. After the third hit, Dark Gaia becomes Perfect Dark Gaia (both versions) 5. We take down the shield as Super Sonic before Chip gets defeated by Dark Gaia (HD version) 6. Take out Dark Gaia’s other eyes (SD version) 7. We do the quick time event to free the Gaia Colossus from Dark Gaia’s hands, and do the x60 button spam (HD version) 8. Do one last hit on Dark Gaia’s last eye (HD version) Pretty much changing/swapping from the SD and HD version’s way of doing this boss fight. I did like some of the QTEs since it does allow the fight to look more cinematic, which helps me enjoy it more personally. Even though i’m not always a big fan of Quick Time Events where you spam one button (mainly in games where that constantly happens)
Ahh this brings back memories...A young me saying for ages to buy the wii version..Getting home after i bought it and i absolutely loved it..Then i saw the 360/ps3 version..
The greater point is that a lot less attention to detail was put into the Wii version's Dark Gaia boss battle that make it a lot less dramatic, and I don't think it's because of the Wii's limitations. Sonic says 'Here we go!' At the beginning of the oppening brawl as if it's some sort of middle school playground fight, Dark Gaia just stands idly waiting for each of his eyes to be punctured, and the Gaia Colossus flat out dips during the Pefect Dark Gaia battle. Not to say that this version is bad, or that the HD versions are better simply because it makes more sense, but I can't help but appreciate that there's a rhyme and reason to literally every aspect of the interaction on the 360.
@N1SonicsFan note: chip isn't dead, he's sleeping. don't forget this happens every 1000 years but right now, they're doing the fight early because eggman woke up dark gaia.
I don't know why you guys are fighting over what console we are playing on. I mean at least you still have a copy so what who cares about the gameplay they both focus on the same thing sonic putting the world back together so why are we fighting about what console we are playing a game that came out 8 years ago.
Imagine they combined the wii and Xbox version like first you get past the shield and then you take out dark Gaia’s eyes that would be so cool

I know I'm not the only one who prefers a round of Punch-Out to 3 SLOW AS HELL crawls toward quick time events
I prefer this to tge ps3's anticlimactic press x to win
Maybe make a dash towards DG that’s 50% longer than the one from the PS3, and then you go to the fighting event from the Wii

If you manage to break or dodge both, you can get a punch or dodge Dark Gaia's swats before he resumes to hitting you. After you defeat him, you go into the final Sonic mission to save Chip once again.
.
.
Perfect Dark Gaia
.
Personally i think the time limit makes it more satisfying when you do win
I actually suck at the boxing part, but I still love this fight. It actually seems better than the 360's, from what I've seen. And the sweet BGM doesn't hurt Awesome job on this boss, Overhazard.
Never played this version, but does anybody think that the perfect dark gaia of this version is a LOT like the Nega Mother Wisp from Sonic Colors DS? (I can't be the only one who played that version too)
Maybe it's because they were both made by Dimps? It seems like Sonic games like to catch on each other
Dr Scrubbington I see it (pun intended) as a callback to the final boss fight in Sonic and the Secret rings with Erazor Djin with the way he attacks
Well at least colours DS had a super sonic ending
The way they made Sonic fly with his boost and bounce back after his homing attack was a really smart move.
God I had such a hard fucking time with this fight the super sonic section is so fucking annoying his attacks are almost impossible to avoid.
gamer42j Ikr?
Espeacially when Dark gaia uses all his arms
Personally the best part of this is just how when you land the final blow super sonic just crosses his arms and doesn't say a word while doing the whole "cool guys don't look at explosions" routine
This version is way better then the xbox/ps3 version
Uhm... No.
Umm, it's his opinion.
+DylanDude120 - The Thrower of Shells
And I have my opinion, too. Problem?
I agree with ya
OpticMel81 No, but you were attempting to correct his opinion as if yours was fact.
It was cool when you can switch back with daytime and nighttime in one level, but if you get a game over, you have to start all over. The flying with Gaia Colossus was annoying, but hands down, the Super Sonic part was AWESOME in PS3/360!
Are you playing Punch-Out?
Thanks for that! But I actually just beat him yesterday! I did use your technique for avoiding the two-handed attack though. Thanks!
This version of the boss fight would be better if it was in hd.
That 1 dislike was Dr. Eggman because Sonic lived after this battle
I could never beat this boss fight on the Wii so i just gave up and found the ending online and watched it. after that I just sold the game because I was pissed that I couldn't beat it because the Wii controls for that finale fight was terrible everything else was fine but man that was bullshit that final boss.
The GamePad is a Wii U controller.
*****
No, the standard term is "controller." "Game pad," as two words, is a less common but acceptable term though. The Wii U controller with the screen is officially the "Wii U GamePad," and Nintendo has trademarked both that and "GamePad."
*****
Hmm, interesting.
However, the description for it on the official site calls it the "Wii U(TM) GamePad controller." The "G" and "P" are always capitalized.
i used the wiimote and nunchuck and i also tried it with the classic controller. both were bs, maybe i just sucked a lot back then lol.
The Xbox 360/PS3 Version is the canon version of the boss fight and game.
Makes sense, considering the PS3/360 version's the more complete version of the game in a way
***** But they are the same character, just from different time periods.
***** No,no and no
In many different manuals in the classic games sonic is described as being a 15-16 years old
That's a recent invention Sega made in Generations
It's absolute bullshit
The characters are completely different
*****
No, they're not... in the Sonic Heroes manual, Sonic is described to be 15...
Thanks for this video it really helped me out
PUNCH OUT!
exactly what I was thinking :D
Man, looking back, Dark Gaia is nightmare fuel.
Compared to the 360 and PS3 versions, this looks so boring
I had a hunch someone would think like that. I've looked at both versions of this boss fight, and I can imagine people liking the Wii version better. The Xbox version looks more like you're just manually moving a cutscene along.
Superior graphics aren't worth much if you don't have compelling gameplay to go with it.
ZachaRic O The gameplay here looks 10 times more boring though
***** Nice comeback. XD
Tezza, you have no fucking idea how intense this boss battle is...
Satans Yeast Infection so true
i can't describe it, but this is just awesome.
I feel sorry for those who played this game on the wii, the Xbox 360 version is so much better!
kyuuibi rasagen atleast i dont have to find medals.
so true but the medals tho
I have the Wii version, and it was GREAT!
kyuuibi rasagen At least we actually fight Dark Gaia instead of the shield followed by some quick time button presses
I like both versions and I also still have both of the versions
omg you make it look sooooo easy for the perfect dark gaia
Nah. The PS3/360 version is still the best
ps3 verrsion is better
The Mathew Yup
Well actually I played 360 because it's has better fps even though the PS3 was supposed to be 60 fps and the 360 stuck at 30 fps
This boss, I remember staying up till 3 am fighting this thing
Same
Well, i'm going to have to add Dark Gaia to one of the most disturbing bosses I have fought.
RM_Epic what about the Wii version
If they mixed together the final boss from the Wii/PS2 (SD) version and Xbox 360/PS3 (HD) version, it would be perfect. Here’s a step by step of how i’d want it to go:
1. Flying towards Dark Gaia (HD version, but we don’t repeat this section, unless you die before next part)
2. Fist fight against Dark Gaia as the Colossus (SD version)
3. Dark Gaia grabs the Colossus during the fight 3 times, and each time we hit one of it’s eyes as Sonic (HD version)
4. After the third hit, Dark Gaia becomes Perfect Dark Gaia (both versions)
5. We take down the shield as Super Sonic before Chip gets defeated by Dark Gaia (HD version)
6. Take out Dark Gaia’s other eyes (SD version)
7. We do the quick time event to free the Gaia Colossus from Dark Gaia’s hands, and do the x60 button spam (HD version)
8. Do one last hit on Dark Gaia’s last eye (HD version)
Pretty much changing/swapping from the SD and HD version’s way of doing this boss fight. I did like some of the QTEs since it does allow the fight to look more cinematic, which helps me enjoy it more personally. Even though i’m not always a big fan of Quick Time Events where you spam one button (mainly in games where that constantly happens)
I can believe just sonic just defeated Dark Gia/ Perfect dark Gia in the blink of an eye.
Elder Princess Shroob's List:
Elder Princess Shroob - 0:00
Elder Princess Shroob (Running) - 1:14
Perfect Elder Princess Shroob - 3:39
Ahh this brings back memories...A young me saying for ages to buy the wii version..Getting home after i bought it and i absolutely loved it..Then i saw the 360/ps3 version..
Hey man thank for the help I just completed the entire game 😀😀😀😀😀
You're welcome.
I love this boss music and great job on the S rank. I have no clue how to S rank him on the 360 version.
I love how spinners conveniently exist in this boss fight for homing attack chains.
Well, Bladed Spinners have appeared where they don't make sense ever since Sonic Adventure. They love those Homing Attack chains.
The rocks look like meatballs! ^^
Ahh the memories I’ve always have struggle with this boss
I remember fighting this boss at a friends's house and beat it, but the ending cutscene never finished playing out.
I got this game in 2010 and I still cant beat it to this day
THIS VIDEO IS 14 YEARS OLD!
Yes, it is. Far from my oldest video.
This is my favourite boss in sonic and u have done an amazing job like me
Man... I remember myself crying because I couldn't beat this boss. Even didn't play the game for like 2 months.
You know, we've been hitting bosses in the eyes (or more commonly, eye) in games for years before this to kill them.
@N1SonicsFan note: chip isn't dead, he's sleeping. don't forget this happens every 1000 years but right now, they're doing the fight early because eggman woke up dark gaia.
Wii unleashed eh, kinda makes me glad i got the HD one lol
At 1:30 that is the only time you do that move in the PS2 and Wii version.
Thing with Dark Gaia is that you have too much time to get an S rank.
When sonic is boosting to gaias eye, it's the same boosting sound in generations
This version is better than the Xbox 360 version
I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THE PHASE TWO BOSS THEME.
I don't know why you guys are fighting over what console we are playing on. I mean at least you still have a copy so what who cares about the gameplay they both focus on the same thing sonic putting the world back together so why are we fighting about what console we are playing a game that came out 8 years ago.
