I’m an old-timer stitcher, and for many years I was concerned needlework would become a lost art. My daughter was not interested in it, stitching stores were closing, and I was sad. You are a marvelous example of the “new” generation keeping this wonderful art form alive. Your designs are so wonderful for beginners and intermediate stitchers, yet even an old-timer like me finds them gorgeous to stitch. You create such beauty, while absolutely not needing all the bells and whistles that discourage beginners. And you’re an excellent teacher! It warms my heart to know this art form is staying alive, thanks to you and the young designers like you. ❤️❤️❤️ Thank you!

My mom *hated* handwork - "waste of time-you can buy better for less $" - so I had to wait until I was married and out of the house and in a different state before I could comfortably try everything in which I was interested. I thought my daughter would be interested - she is *very* creative - but not interested in learning embroidery, knitting, crochet, needlepoint, ccs - but did seem to enjoy learning how to sew and make clothing. She was not concerned with learning how to frog - however it came out, is how she wore it.
@@Marny5580 Hello! The whole thing is hand-sewn, including the sewing seam. It's done as a back stitch line, usually about 1-2 squares away from your finished stitching.
I thought making a biscornu would be very complicated. You made it so simple. Now I know all I need is two squares of equal size. I can design my own even with different fabrics. My head is swimming with ideas. Thanks!

On my third attempt at sewing a biscornu - cross stitched on 40 count linen - I did the backstich over 2 squares giving me longer stitches to catch and used 2 threads to sew them. Turned out much better than sewing Xs and catching them which looked bulky. Your video was super helpful, thank you.

Thank you! Looking forward to trying this. One suggestion when tying off is to push the needle deep into the finished item and then out anywhere. Squeeze and then cut the thread. The end disappears back inside and leaves a longer tail for safety, hidden inside the stuffing.
I will make a tiny dot in the center of each piece of fabric *before* stitching it together - while planning my designs. That way, I don't have to rely on 'eyeballing' the center of both sides. I like your tutorial. TY!!

The instructions tell you how large each design is, and how much fabric you need. The dragon one is stitched on 28ct white even weave, but would work just as easily on 14 or 16ct Aida.

Thank you for this tutorial, I’m stitching a Biscornu and my pattern calls for stitch all around the piece but I need to do running stitch to put them together. My question where to start the running stitch….right next to the stitches?
Thanks for this tutorial! What do you do when you run out of thread in the middle of sewing it together? How do you end and how do you start again?
It's no trouble when that happens! Just finish off that thread by making a tiny knot in your seam allowance, or as hidden as you can make it. Then start again with a new length of thread, making a hidden knot and continue stitching around the edge.
@@TinyModernist Thanks! I did it before I got your reply, but not my best effort ;-( It is a little visible, but nothing too serious. Next time I'll rather end it earlier at a corner. The thread would have been long enough to go to the next corner, but it got tangled up so unfortunately I had to cut it short.... Thanks again for getting back to me! :-) I just have to finish it by pulling it in at the middle. Then I'll post a photo of the finished product ;-)
Fantastic, thank you so much. How have you sewn your green edging stitch? Two threads and a running stitch or back stitch? A lovely biscornu.
Yes, it's 2 threads, and I use a backstitch around the edge. It's more sturdy than a running stitch and holds better when the two fabric pieces get sewn together.

Did you use interfacing?
Did you stitch your green edging stitches over 2 stitches or over 1? Will this make a difference when we go to sew it together?
I hope you still read these comments but while you are piecing the fabrics together and you’re out of thread how do you end? Did I miss it? Great tutorial and has me excited to do my first one. Thank you!
I do still read them! It's easy enough; if you run out of thread partway through stitching (and I often do...), just make a tiny knot inside the seam allowance to finish the thread, and start another thread in the same place.
@@TinyModernist I realized that I did not create a backstitched border, mine is cross stitched. Will this change how I stitch the two pieces together?
@@lives4stitching-jenniferl540 Yes, it will. I don't think you can stitch two cross stitch borders together. Don't frog anything - I would just add a backstitch border around the outside, one stitch away from your cross stitch borders on all sides. Use the new backstitch lines to finish the biscornu.

What type of cloth and count did you use for the biscornu?
Suzy Belsito 14-count white Aida, but you can use almost any count or fabric and it will work :)

Unless I'm making this up, in the instructions you show doing the back stitch over two squares? I did that, and it looks like that doesn't work with this way of finishing the piece...
The backstitch should be over one square, all the way around the design - usually 1-3 squares away from the stitched design. The front and back pieces should be the same measurement.

You do such beautiful lovely work if use a more fancy button believe me dear your biscornus will go to a higher level .
I to am going threw a biscornu " Faze" 4 the past 2 years l have made over 100 pls biscornus
(I do not sell l give them away) and this is why l suggest a mor fancy button....take care......
