This scene is a cinematic piece of art that gives us the perfect example of many of the conflicts still happening all around the world today. An example of how much people can be affected by religion, of how there are different kinds of believers, of how some people who are (sadly) insanely fanatic absolutely cannot tolerate to share society with anyone who are of a different oppinion, and it's unbelievable that it still is this way. If only people could just be satisfied with knowing that they believe instead of needing to force their belief upon others.
A thing that I really love about this movie is that it shows so many nuances. Even though the Christians are the antagonistic characters in general, the movie shows that there are good people among them too. Religion on its own is not powerful until people give it that much power, and it can bring out the best in some people, though it also brings out the absolute worst in others. It's the believer and not the belief itself that is dangerous.

Exactly , I'm a follower of Jesus and me seeing all that this ignorance of them destroying one another , hapatia being killed angered me a lot she very a very unique and intelligent woman one of a kind and it was such a waste to see her die and all the wisdom and knowledge get destroyed and the beautiful city of Alexandria a beacon of enlightenment in the world fall apart , it doesn't have to be this way we can thrive to do better and prosper together, if Jesus was in Alexandria he would of been very interested to talk to hapatia on how unique she is and how she seems the truth in things

It amazes me that Christianity was not invented by Jesus and the Bible was not written by Jesus instead written 40 years after his death by some that knew someone that knew Jesus. As far as I am concerned his image is being used to manipulate the masses. What is scary is how violent the fanatics are. This applies to all fanatics of all faiths. They should be kept under control for the safety of your women and your scientists. Scary stuff...

Most of the Bibkle was written before Jesus was born, and the Bulk of The New testament was not written 40 Years later, but much closer, such as Paul's Epistles.

    • @judalowe7191

The Gospels were written by apostles and close associates of the apostles. And the LORD JESUS says that the HOLY SPIRIT will teach them and remind them of everything He has said to them:
      The LORD JESUS says:
"I have said this to you while I am still with you; but the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have said to you." (John 14:25-26)
The Bible, the Word of GOD, also does not tell us that it was written by GOD, but by people, but these people are true of GOD's chosen, holy, men of GOD and prophets, who were baptized and inspired with the HOLY SPIRIT, and all that they , speaking in the name of the LORD and writing, GOD entered and breathed into them.
From the first letter to the last, the Bible is the infallible Word of the living GOD:
      (2 Timothy 3:16)
"All writing is inspired by God
(Greek Theopneustos GOD-breathed i.e. breathed in by GOD).
      (2 Peter 1:20-21)
"In doing so, you should recognize above all that no prophecy of Scripture is of arbitrary interpretation.
For no prophecy was ever brought about by human will, but the holy people of God, driven by the Holy Spirit, spoke."
The word of GOD is completely free of dross, i.e. completely pure and infallible:
      (Psalm 12:7)
"The words of the Lord are pure words, silver melted in an earthen crucible, refined seven times." And the Word of GOD the Bible is still valid today: (Matthew 24:35) The LORD JESUS says: "Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away."
      The Apostle Peter says:
"For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty. For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount. We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost." (2 Peter 1:16‭-‬21)

It is true that much of the bible was manipulated for political gain. Rome wanted to remain in power which is why they killed and exiled Christ’s apostles.
But I do believe Jesus lived and preached to the masses and nobody could explain how he resurrected. The prophecies of a the Lamb written hundreds of years before he walked the earth were fulfilled in him.

Actually, the Pharisees (Jewish Leaders) were going to stone the women caught in Adultery.
Jesus stood in front of them and said “Let who has no sin...cast the first stone”. They dropped all stones and walked away. Jesus helped her up. Religion accuses and kills. Jesus heals and Loves. Jesus is the face and leader of Christianity not men with evil hearts and religious systems. Jesus was all about Love not Hate.

Likewise, I want the women to adorn themselves with respectable apparel, with modesty, and with self-control, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, but with good deeds, as is proper for women who profess to worship God. A woman must learn in quietness and full submissiveness. I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; she is to remain quiet.

Personally I would be very careful about calling anything prove if it is only told by one source that naturally had to be biased towards the allerged "villains".

This comment section gives me cancer... So much hate and historically inaccurate anti-christian propaganda.
Saint Cyril was great, learned scholar and theologian from Alexandrian School who joined Biblical ideas with Greek philosophy. And Hypatia was killed in lynch and not because she was scientist but because she was influential pagan. Alexandria was very tense with political and religious conflicts. Many contemporary Christians critisized this act. Science was not Church priority, but She still helped develop it through history. Earlier famous Christian scholar Origen of Alexandria was studying neo-platonism with Plotinus. Later there where pro-science thinkers like Augustine of Hippo, Isidore of Seville and John Philoponus. Not to mention later schools and personas form Middle Ages and Modern Era.

All what you said happened in an era of Chaos and interfighting, not only with non-Christians but between Christians too, you are not gonna sit here and name these figures without mentioning how controversial they were to each other, without mentioning that Pre Seven Ecumenical Councils, there were Christian scholars calling each other heretics for every little thing. You are not gonna pretend in the early days of Christianity you didnt have Tertullian and Origenes at each other's throats, every other Alexandrian Patriarch being declared heretic by the Patriarch at Constantinople before the Council of Chalcedon formalized divinity and humanity of Christ, that half of Eastern Christians refused said council and were branded heretics, that Monothelites, Monophysites, and Miaphysites were killing each other on the streets.
It took time, and bloodshed for Christianity to shed its militancy roots of Pre-Council.

@crzylkfx: The point is that christians during that time destroyed pagan temples and banned scientific literature. The point is also that even many distructions throught the Romans were initiated by Christians who the Romans wanted to pacify. For the Romans it was mainly about keeping the christans, yews and pagans in check.
And be careful with "knowing for a fact". We have different accounts and we have no idea if they are based on older accounts that are often politically motivated.

Your religion-bashing, erring on hate speech, has in it's initial principles "values" not too dissimilar to what you are denigrating here.
People who call themselves "Christian" aren't necessarily being good Christians just because they say they are. To judge an entire group because of actions that the majority would condemn is just plain bigoted. It's like thinking all Muslims are terrorists or all black people criminals. No one thinks the actions here are very Christian. Socrates Scholasticus points out even as Hypatia's contemporary how un-Christian the actions of these people was. Christ taught forgiveness, tolerance, and the famous "let him without sin cast the first stone". If you think what's shown here are the moralities of the Christian faith laid bare, you are quite simply ignorant of what those are.
Those may not be for me, or you, but having a go at people for valuing something that is primarily about love and forgiveness is utterly nonsensical.
Good people who have faith are probably even more pissed off by this sort of stuff than you are. American Evangelicals, Bible-Bashers, Creationists and the Westboro Baptist Church do not an accurate picture of religion make.
Perhaps focus your energy on figuring out how you wish to live your life instead of joining with the hate groups and spitting on others for what they want to believe when that doesn't impact you.
"Christianity summed up in 5 minutes. XD" How mature. XD

Jesus never speaks about Priestes and Churches, He more like a hippy and not a conservative. Mohammed want to make a religion what is part of everybody, and He never mention about religios war or something. Of course that time Arabia large part are non-Muslim, that was the reason of the war, but He speaks about the Christians and a Jews as brothers and sisters of the Muslims. The two most large religion in the World is not based on the worlds of God or "the" Scipt. The religions based on the antcient traditions.
