DISCLAIMER - In the video I name Chris Williams as the surveyor of the boat, however it was not actually Chris himself who came and did the survey, it was another gentleman. Sincere apologies to Chris, I should have clarified in the video that it was another surveyor.
Im 63 and bought my first boat probably a few weeks before you. I wish i was in my 20s like you but even at my grand old age, I wouldnt want to live any other way. I truly hope you enjoy your life aboard as much as I do and I'm looking forward to following your journey and maybe picking up some tips along the way. Good luck 👍👍
That's great to hear! You're never too young to start something new! I'm still learning so much myself so I'll be sure to include some educational stuff alongside the laughs!
Not many young men your age can say they own the roof over their head, to me a grizzled old folk you are already way ahead of the game young man. Well done, and good luck!
I bought a boat in 2019 ive had a ot of work done on it. Over plated blacked windows fitted and a side hatch. Still got a lot to do but its the best lufe ever. Being ricked to sleep at night is a bonus 😊
Shear joy in your voice. Just lovely to see you so happy. Looking forward to watching Lydia transform and you get comfortable in your new surroundings. 😊
Congratulations on the purchase of Lydia, it’s good that the survey was thorough.. less to worry about in the future.. I am looking forward to seeing what renovations you have planned.. Sue
I’d be thrilled to bits with that surveyor. I wouldn’t be slating him. Certainly after naming him! He was right to tell the seller to disappear whilst he was trying to do his job for you. 👍
I was over the moon with the survey, thoroughness is great! However his attitude with both myself and the seller left a lot to be desired. I should also point out that although I name Chris Williams in the video, it was another gentleman who came to survey the boat.
@@Voyage_of_Lydia aha, that makes more sense sense now. I shared your first episode with another boaty friend when I tripped over it and we are both really enjoying your personality and vlog style so I was left a bit confused by the surveyor chat in ep 2! You’re doing great 😊 looking forward to the adventures you’ll share (and tell your Dad his t-shirt is superb!) 👍🤩
I have enjoyed your video. How proud you must be, I dont know you but Im proud of you. Look forward to see more in the future. Wishing you happiness aboard your new home
I’ve just watched your first episode. I’m going to really enjoy following your life on your boat. I love watching floating our boat so I’m going to enjoy watching. How are you progress?
Mate , you so did the right thing getting a surveyor to look over any boat you were thinking of investing in . Imagine if you had bought the first one blind ?!??
Lydia looks like a better boat all round from whats visible in the video. It does amaze me that people can cough up what can be a life changing amount of money without any sort of professional opinion !
Exactly. It's all well and good being friendly with the seller, but remember that he has a direct conflict of interest. He had no right to know what the surveyor thought/found, until you are willing to share it with him. If a surveyor feels rushed or pressured, they can miss something that might be very important. Having said all that, I'm happy you've found a good boat!
Brilliant, well done, good luck with your new adventure. The canal community will be there to support and help you, join IWA and you'll meet some experienced boaters. Best Regards,
I am so pleased to have found your channel and I am delighted to live my own dream through your eyes with your channel in the weeks, months, years to come. Hopefully I will get my shot at this, one day! :)
Had to write a comment. What made you choose narrow boating as a lifestyle for a young man who just graduated? How will you support yourself while cruising the UK canals? I am interested in seeing how your adventure evolves. An envious 70 year old woman from Florida.
Hi! It’s great to have you following along! I’ve worked on boats for few years now, taking tourists along various canals and rivers, that gave me a real insight into boat life and it appealed straight away. I sadly won’t be able to go cruising full time just yet as I work in one place, rest assured that there will be some travelling videos on the way as I’m just about to take Lydia to Cheshire to start a new job!
I'm a video editor, I have a feeling I know what you studied at uni. 30 seconds in and I know this is going to be a successful endeavour. The best of luck to you, sir.
Thank you so much! Both surveyors I had were brilliant in their thoroughness. I found Dave Stewart (from ep.1) through Nationwide Boat Sales website and he was brilliant, dead accommodating when I came down and was really happy to show me around the boat and explain what he was looking at 👍🏼
Generally boats come with a name (registered with the Canal and River Trust) so we inherit the name along with all the other idiosyncrasies boat have. Im sure its possible to change the name, but I have a feeling its one of those superstitions surrounding water craft and is regarded as bad luck !
Chris Williams is a bit of a legend to me! First off, he's a boatbuilder for Ovation so he knows his stuff.. Second of all, he's so thorough, he got 5 grand knocked of the asking price for our boat! Nothing but respect for him and the comments at the start of the video are really disrespectful. We're a small community and to be so harsh about someone in a public forum like youtube is shocking. Literally named and shamed him. Not cool at all
I should have pointed out in the video that it wasn’t actually Chris who came and did the survey, it was another gentleman. My bad, I take full responsibility for not clarifying it. Sincere apologies.

One of my favourite names …. Love this A new story from the off ….
It must be comforting to know your survey was done by such a thorough man.
It certainly was, although his attitude left a lot to be desired 😆
Not many young men your age can say they own the roof over their head, to me a grizzled old folk you are already way ahead of the game young man. Well done, and good luck!
The guy in the red colour tshirt is so funny explaining things, You look more relaxed now and will be great to watch the new journey
👏😀you are just going to love it !!! 😀👍👍🌟. Joan
Good luck with your new adventure. You were lucky to get a thorough surveyor. He's working for you, so if the seller found him too picky that's good
I definitely couldn’t have been happier with the meticulousness of the survey! The chap was a tad rude however sadly
Congratulations on your new home. I am looking forward to following your journey. 😊
A battery powered drill or screwdriver is a massive bonus on a boat ! 😊
Two outta two 🤙🏼
If I could do my 20’s again, I would do exactly what you are doing. I will live thru the your voyage! Ty
That’s so kind of you! Thanks so much ❤
Good to see a bloke with his head on his shoulders and an aim in life.
I’d absolutely lose it if it wasn’t screwed on 😆

Nice, great to see how genuinely happy you are with Lydia…. 👌
I really couldn’t be happier with how things turned out!
Great video, good luck in your new adventure. Looking forward to seeing more vlogs.
Thanks dude!

After all the searching and that failed survey it was amazing to find her!
@@Voyage_of_Lydia I am sure a great relief.

Thanks Sue! It was great to have a thorough survey. The renovating all starts to kick off in the next episode!
Well done, you'll have a brilliant time doing up your boat.
It’s been absolutely great so far, and still loads to do 😆
Amazing episode! Well done! :D
Another great episode Joe well done 🫡
Cheers boss man! Glad you're enjoying them!

Cheers boss! Chuffed to have you along! Lydia looks a lot different on the inside to how she did when I bought her so progress is good!
Mate , you so did the right thing getting a surveyor to look over any boat you were thinking of investing in .

I’d need some deeper pockets that’s for sure! I’m so happy that Lydia came around eventually!

Thank you to the lady making sounds. I think my gas pump is not working.
The main thing to remember is the surveyor is on your side and should be treated as such.

Love this hope you do more you have a lovely way of saying things
Thanks Lorraine ❤ Maybe I should take up poetry 😆
congratulations on getting your boat, hope all goes well and i'm looking forward to seeing what you do with her
Thank you dude!
Good luck with your new home and future adventures, Get help if you intend taking your Lydia up the Trent, not the easiest river to navigate.
I’ve actually navigated the Trent today! Heading up to Cheshire to start a new job!
Super enjoyed your first two so am subbed up!! Good luck x

Brilliant.beautiful lifestyle
This is just excellent - good luck 😊
Joe it's called a towpath. Good luck in your new home
Thanks boss! When I recorded this I was moored up in a marina, but I’ll be out and about on the towpaths pretty soon!

They sell pads that go inside the porthole, a bit like a cushion can take out in the mornings and help to cut down on condensation. Just saying.
My lovely auntie is going to have a go at making some porthole bungs 😁
Great vlog, really enjoyed it. I might be needing a surveyor next year ;) Anyone you would/not recommend? Have a lovely time out there on the water! 👍

Get yourself a compost toilet 😂
Congratulations. Curious, what made you decide to name your boat Lydia?
Generally boats come with a name (registered with the Canal and River Trust) so we inherit the name along with all the other idiosyncrasies boat have.
Im sure its possible to change the name, but I have a feeling its one of those superstitions surrounding water craft and is regarded as bad luck !
Well done what length is she ?
She’s a good old fashioned 57’ long 👍🏻
What? What happened? Where's the footage of Lydia being moved onto the water? Have we missed such an important part of the journey?
Unfortunately I was at work on the day she went back into the water! Sad that I missed it but there’s always next time she’s out for blacking!

Please use a mask when you are sanding. Your lungs will thank you!
We did get some masks eventually, rookie mistake on my part!
Is Lydia named after a famous tattooed lady?
