  • Let's compare the Mavic 3 and Mavic 3 Pro Zoom lenses and see what the differences are. DJI made some big improvements on the new Mavic 3 pro 7x telephoto lens but how much better is it from the original Mavic 3 telephoto lens? Let's find out.

Really pleased you took the time to do this valuable comparison Jake. As an original Mavic 3 owner (who wants to upgrade to the Pro), I was curious to see the differences. Much appreciated.

If my memory is correct, one of the earlier complaints about the Autel was that it exaggerated sharpness, which can be either good or bad, but it would be nice to be able to adjust it in the settings or as you said, just turn off the change. I hate doing much editing as it is a slow process for me. I prefer to take time setting up the camera rather than additional editing. I actually like the Mavic 3 coloration better in some cases, especially with trees or green colors.

The Mavic 3 on the close up showing background looks better. Background on the pro looked more blurred out. The Pro looked darker side by side thought cloud’s playing a factor.
Most people like me watching this on an iPhone can’t see any big difference besides one being darker than the other. I guess it depends on what your intent is?

    • @JakeSloan

The pro will be a little more blurred out since it has the 3.4f stop over the 4.4 f-stop of the mavic 3

Really appreciate this video, Jake. Not only for answering a key question about the M3 Pro for M3 owners......but also I need to relax after having just completed both my aviation authority drone licence renewal and my drone insurance policy renewal. And I'm only a recreational pilot! I can't imagine what the e-paperwork (and online technical glitches/quirks) would be like for a professional such as yourself.

I prefer Mavic 3, the max flight time is longer, the max flight distance is longer. It would be awesome if Mavic 3 Pro can support Ocusync 4.0 (up to 20km video transmission) with. DJI RC 2 or RC Pro 2 if available.

Thanks for the review, although I think there is an important aspect that is missing: using the x7 camera IN MOTION. I own a Mavic 3 and the x7 camera is not really usable in terms of quality ( resolution, dynamic range etc, ) from medium to pro works. Last autumn I rented a Mavic 3 Pro for a paying gig and it worked superbly. The M3Pro x7 camera quality was great, the footage editor in post production was able to match and integrate the main 24mm camera, to the x3 cam , the x7 camera shots AND all the other MILC ( Sony A7 series ) camera shots that were also used on the scenes !
Now, the interesting thing is that I also made some short tests with the two drones' x7 cameras during that day, and from my window aiming the neighbouring trees and houses, IN STATIC postition, there was hardly any difference in quality between the two x7 cameras ! BUT when flying, shooting moving objects the difference is enormous... the M3Pro is good and usable, the M3 is unusable. I am still looking for an explanation... ( I will also make this comparison in a vlog format when I'll have the time )

I believe ti has to do with the bitrate of the camera. the mavic 3 pro can film in 10bit 4.2.0 on the 7x camera up to 60fps where the mavic 3 can only film 8bit 4.2.0. DJI did something to allow better quality from the mavic 3 pro vs the mavic 3 on the 7x camera

Well considered and useful to those on a fence. I'm really pleased with the Pro, all things considered, and agree with your assessment! A bit comicsl that the folks moaning about the upcoming Air 3 not having a 1 inch sensor absolutely love the 1-1/3 paired with the 70mm equivalent lens. I wouldn't argue against a larger main sensor, but for TH-cam production the Air 3 will be a great setup. 10 m/s Ascend & Descend speeds are faster than Mavic 3, O4 transmission, fast charging, long flight times, etc. aren't enough, wait. I'm sure DJI will tweak imaging options now that the form factor is set. Its an agile, efficient and modernized platform.

I have 6 DJI Drones, but my best 2, are my AIR 2S, & AIR 3, I also have the Mini 4 Pro, Mini 3 Pro, Mini 3, & FPV Drone. All fly more combos. I love my AIR 3 & I like filming wildlife, I can get pretty close with my AIR 3, & that 3 power optical zoom helps, but I need more zoom capabilities. I just got the Autel Evo Lite Plus Premium Bundle, but I think im going to send it back & get the Mavic 3 Pro for the zoom. I would wait for the Mavic 4 & AIR 4 to come out in August, but im scared, that if I wait, for the AIR 4 or Mavic 4, the DJI Drone Ban will pass the Senate, & and I'll be screwed. Im currently studying for my Part 107.

I'm seeing gobs and GOBs of EXTREME noise reduction! It seems like DJI's image processor programmer manager said:
"OK guys.....let's completely OBLIERATE even the smallest amount of noise grain. Let's make this image completely void of ANY texture. If I see even a SPEC of grain,...you are FIRED"
So? They set the spatial and temporal noise reduction parameters to "100%" across the board. This is why we see this image look "WAX".

I understand that you shoot mostly video and hence the sharpness uniformity across the frame is not as closely scrutinised as it is by stills shooters which I am one of. There has been fair bit of discussion going on various forums where people were troubled by soft blurry areas in their photos taken with the main 24mm Hassy camera. Have you looked into this? It would be nice to get your take on this. Some people have apparently returned 7 units and still see the same issue. I went through four Mavic3 before I got a reasonably good one so this is starting to look like a systemic lens problem with the main camera on all Mavic3 models

    • @JakeSloan

This is the first I’ve seen these two compared for their telephoto lenses and I’m happy to find it. WOW…the colors on the Mavic 3 Pro telephoto are legitimately terrible. I don’t care about the sharpness difference that much for the shots I’m getting with mine, but I do care about blue shadows, toxic greens, and magenta colors off the 3 Pro. The shots on the Original Mavic looks natural and the 3 Pro shots looks like they need a lot of work to get colors where they need to be.
