Installing a Yamaha Auxiliary Charger Cable

The Yamaha engine has an auxiliary charging outlet. It is isolated from the primary charging system and would normally be used to charge the house batteries while the primary charging system charges the starting battery.
My setup is a little more exotic, I will be using the auxiliary charging system to charge my house batteries and my trolling batteries. There is some magic circuitry involved in doing this which I will cover in later videos.
Even if you don’t go the whole hog and create a charging system like I have it is well worth totally separating the starting and house batteries. I find there is a lot of peace of mind in knowing my starting battery will not be drained by the electronics while I am 80km offshore.
You can buy a cable from your Yamaha dealer, but I found that all I am paying (exorbitantly) for is the proprietary plug on the end. If you don’t mind cutting the plug off inside the engine and joining directly onto the wire you will save a lot of dollars.

So long as the job gets done, how much language goes into it isn't all that important :-)

Hi friend good video !!!! I really didn't know about that cable for the house battery, maybe the Minn Kota alternator never worked for me because I didn't connect it to that cable. Do you have a Minn Kota alternator? I connected it to the starter battery and it doesn't work, it turns on the lights but it doesn't charge.

In my current setup I have a Victron 12-24V DC-DC charger connected to a 24V lithium battery. Charges just fine from the Aux charging cable. I have never used the Minn Kota chargers but from all reports I have read it should work.

@@weFishAU How many Ah does the Orion TR provide for the Yamaha?

The Yamaha 150 alternator is rated at 35 Amps but the engine itself uses some to run so the net output available for charging is around 21 Amps.

The True dual battery isolator is famous for Honda Pioneer. It should work well with the Yamaha SXS series since it is a universal automatic dual battery kit with dual display voltage meter see it here www.dfna.info/yamaha-yxz-dual-battery-kit/

Thank you, that is an interesting product but it isn't doing what my full setup is doing and it doesn't appear to be designed for marine use. The auxiliary charger circuit on the Yamaha outboards is designed for charging a second battery so in reality I could have done without a splitter but I installed a ProIso Charge for other reasons. . My complete setup also manages the charging of a 24v battery bank by automatically switching two 12v batteries between series and parallel depending on the load. You can see a full playlist of how I have it set up here: th-cam.com/video/eK7tfdsu_RQ/w-d-xo.html if you are interested.
