      Especially the part where Faye hears the song on the radio for the first time while mailing letters. She stops with the stamp stuck on her tongue, then runs off, forgetting to mail the letters, runs back, shoves them in the mailbox and takes off down the street screaming. She happens to run by the Bass Player and tells him what station to turn to then he takes off running with her all the way to Guy’s father’s store.
      It’s funny when the Bass Player stops, in all his excitement, to wipe his feet at the door. Jimmy and Lenny just park their car in the middle of the street and leap out, then run into the store where they begin to turn every radio in the store to that station.
      It was so well done, the way the music starts through a high pass filter, to give it that transistor radio sound, but as each nicer stereo system comes on, the bass becomes richer and richer until that real nice high fidelity stereo fills the whole store with the music, but not until T.B. Player slaps it a few times. (T.B.Player is actually how “The Bass Player” is listed in the credits). Hanks never gave him a name in the script.
      The Old Man starts bitching at all of his friends. “Son, you wanna get your cotton-picking mitts off of that..”. My favorite is, “Put that Dow! That is a very expensive floor display!” which is a cardboard cut-out of some lady that is very, very 1960s looking, but she was the only thing Lenny could find to kiss.
      I thought he was going to kiss that girl, who might be Guy’s sister or cousin or some relative. IDK, she may just be an employee, but I know he doesn’t pay her. When Guy left to go on tour, the father promoted her to Guy’s position and she said, “does this mean I get paid?”, and he said “no!”, so I figured she must be a relative.
      Anyway, that is a great scene of many in this charming film. Hanks did a hell of a job on this movie. Just a great story about characters who would never hang together if it wasn’t for the one common thread, their music. It was a quite genius plot thread that Guy decided to speed up the song, during a live performance! Luckily, it paid off for him. Jimmy finally agreed that it was better fast at the end of the scene in the store, where they hear it on the radio for the first time. It’s easy to miss, but he does say “you were right, I knew it all along” as they’re dancing around the center display in his father’s store.

      @RoarOfWolverine 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@anickwynnproduction yes, I was going to say the same thing, but I saw your comment. It’s easy to miss. I think I saw this about 5 times before I heard Jimmy saying that to Guy. Like he knew it the whole time, yeah, get real Jimmy. I noticed it because he was pointing his finger right in Guy’s face as they’re dancing around. Then I listen close to what he was saying and it was there. “You were right! I knew it!”.
      The end part of this scene was not in the original edit of the movie. It makes more sense with this scene, because later, he bitches to Mr. White about only getting one take for ,”All My Only Dreams” and wants Playtone to foot the bill to record another take, even though it’s the B side of the record, so no one cares but Jimmy.
      That must have been the “Lovers Lament Crap” that Mr White said, “no more to” when they finally got in the studio? You can tell here that “All My Only Dreams” was more important to Jimmy than their hit song. The funny thing is, right before the credits, it says that Jimmy had more hits for Playtone Records and became a record producer. Two of the songs he made for Playtone play during the credits. His band’s name was “The Heardsman”, one of the stupid names he suggested before they settled on the “O-Neaders”. At least it wasn’t the “Chord-vettes”.

      I thought vinyl was being phased out in the 90s when CDs became the dominant music format, especially 45rpm singles. The B side is usually another song that was put on Side B of the 45 and side A was the single. I know DJs could still by 12 inch maxi singles back then, but those were mostly white label promo records to be played on the radio or in clubs.
      I think vinyl really started coming back in the mid 2000s and that's when more people started buying turntables and new-release albums were being sold on vinyl, but were spanned across two discs because loudness wars and those releases often sounded like ass.

    • @RoarOfWolverine
      @RoarOfWolverine 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I knew it wasn’t in the original cut, or I would have remembered that. It would have made the scene where Jimmy asks Mr. White if they can have another take of the B side, “All My Only Dreams”. He said here he could do it in one take, but later on, he still wants another take. I think that song was the kind of “Lover’s Lament crap” that Mr. White said he wanted no more of in the studio, right before Jimmy walks out.
      It funny because Mr. White acts like if Jimmy walks out, his music career will be over, but in the end, it says that Jimmy went on to make several hits for Playtone and become a record producer. Two of the songs he did with his group, the Heardsman (he just had to have some name spelled wrong for the sake of some puzzle, like the “O-needers ” or the “Chord-vettes” or the “Heardsman”, which he finally got to do.

Lenny said, “yeah, it looks like the O-needers.”. When Villipiano called them the “O-needers”, Lenny corrected him and said, “it’s the O-Enders”, as in the O-ned-ers. It was very confusing until they went with just “The Wonders”, as in, “I wonder what happened to the O-needers?

    In the actual released movie the scene ends exactly at 2:42 The last word is "Wednesday" and then the next scene I believe is cut to Villapianos restaurant where they sell the 45s at the door. So after 2:42 all action was edited out. And what was edited _IN_ that you don't see in this clip is Lenny shaking his head at Jimmy and whispering "no, no." as if to say: don't be such a pain.

      The Dark Knight In the movie, when Mr. White asks for the tapes from the church recording, Jimmy states that they were only able to do one take for the B side and asked if it could be done, again. Mr. White says that it’s fine just the way it is. That B side single take must have been killing Jimmy.
