An excellent video that many qualified drivers would benefit from watching. Observation and road position are critical to safety as of course is appropriate speed for road conditions.
Thanks for the clear videos, the diagrams helped me understand things better as I always struggled to fully grasp the info from learner books. I have my test tomorrow so I'm hoping for the best, not gonna give up!
Worth mentioning Richard, that having observed 100s of tests over yrs, I've noticed a lot of observation faults, could have been listed as a different fault, which may muddy the figures a bit. Take a pupil emerging on to a roundabout heading 1st exit left, they look to the right and see a car approaching in the right hand lane of roundabout. They wrongly assume it's OK to proceed as they are staying in left hand lane, not realising/understanding that the approaching may need to move into left lane to exit roundabout (and often does). Examiners often mark this as 'observation', when in fact its a lack of understanding fault (no area for that on test sheet) or possibly judgement fault. This causes confusion when pupil explains to their instructor that, they did see the car coming. Also (as you mentioned) pulling out on a vehicle at a T junction causing them to slow too much, can be a progress or again a judgement fault, but very often recorded as observation. This doesn't alter the fact that these are serious faults, but the trainer may well wrongly concentrate on the observation side post test. Thank you for interesting video again.
1 Observations at Junction 2 Checking mirrors 3 Steering control 4 Junction turning right 5 poor Decisions 6 response to traffic lights 7 move off control 8 positioning normal driving 9 response to signals road marking 10 reverse park control
Just passed my test first try, thank you for this video. It helped calm my nerves, you're a great teacher. To anyone about to take their test, it's not as bad as you think! Just breathe and concentrate, the instructors aren't there to try to fail you, they WANT you to succeed!
Well done congratulations 🎉 is it true when you bay park you can choose whether to forward bay park or reverse I have my test Monday I’m quite nervous but reading this I’m feeling more confident
Excellent video. I have driven i20 5 years back in Dehi, India with not a single ticket but yesterday I had my first driving lesson in Slough, UK and I realized how things are different here. The instructor kept telling me to not slowing down the vehicle just because you are seeing a pedestrian coming your way, its your side of the road and they have to stop they know. I was just being extra careful. He also kept nudging me about having the left hand on shift and right on the wheel and controlling the steering single handedly all the time as if I am always ready to change gears. I have realized it becomes very difficult for the instructor to train someone who has already driven with own techniques in their country. Its also difficult to unlearn bad techniques as a driver when you were always confident driver back home.
I completely understand how so many people can fail their test on daydreaming at a traffic light - I zoned out at a traffic light since it was notorious for taking the mick, and then my lane's filter light went green without me realising and I was at the front of the queue! Luckily I noticed before anything happened but I remember my examiner said I was about two seconds away from failing for that!
Love your videos Richard, especially the mock tests are really helpful in understanding what learner drivers have to do pass! 🚗💨 I am thrilled to say that I passed last Tuesday (third time) thanks to my instructor, support from my family, and your videos! In my locality the fails were revenue gathering by a corrupt testing office who were found to have the highest fail rate in New Zealand. Both my sons were failed twice at the local place but then passed first time at another testing centre. In fact one fail was the first example you gave where a car entered the intersection after my son started his turn with a clear road.
I am currently learning in a 2020 or 2019 ford focus. Though i'll be driving a 2020 mazda3 sport lux when I pass. Which helps because the Mazda3 is smaller than the focus.
Passed my driving test 2days ago, First time... these tips are paramount... Thank You So much Mate... for taking your time to give us these tips... they are a great help. KEEP DOING what you are doing, people need these...10min into my test "My examiner asked me to Park on the left and drive of when ready" ... I accidentally put the gear i reverse, it went back for a splut second, I was terrified, though ita was fail, I didn't dwell in it though, composed myself, carried out my observations, signalled and drove of... inside I was scared, but I knew I had to focus, 20min into my test he directed me back to the driving centre, in my head I thought he had seen enough and I have failed, when we got to the center he asked me to reverse into a bay... I did that perfectly, turned the engine off, couldn't belive it when he said you've passed, with 1 minor, that silly reverse mistake...

No cars coming, pull out look in my mirror and see a car coming up close behind me. I don't even think they know I've just pulled out and just think I'm driving slow. I failed my first test on 'moving off safely', because I put my indicator on before moving off and there was a cyclist on the road. That's how I failed my second drivers test. Did an emergency stop and forgot to check my blind spots when moving off, I would have passed if not for that. Did pass the Third time though because I just kept my observation constant, even when my car stalled three times it was good enough.
Just passed my test on 25/11/2022 the date I will never forget. I was so stress but I keep focus on the positive my driving licence will bring into my life.
I passed with 3minors faults. Thanks for your videos.
Guys it is not easy to handle stress but keep focus think about how happy relieve you will be after you pass your test. It was my 3rd time. I had a mock test on 21/11/2022 and 4 days later I passed my test. Finally I feel more relieve than happy I though I will never pass.🎉🎉🎉🎉
That's fantastic to hear, congratulations on passing!
@@ConquerDriving thanks you are a genius. ❤️
Alhumdullilah passed my Practical driving test 2 hours ago at Isleworth driving centre. Just wanted to give you huge round of applause for your wonderful videos on driving test. It really helped a lot.🎉💐🎈🎊 Keep it up.. Keep doing mate
That's great news! Congratulations on passing!
Started driving a week ago and it's so addicting. I can't wait to get my city study permit and to drive in the city. I'm so excited! Thank you for your tips, I hope to pass with the 1st time.
Good luck 🤞
I have passed the exam today and I cannot explain how helpful all these videos were. Thanks for making these videos.
That's really great to hear, thank you for watching and congratulations on passing!
Due to have my driving test on Tuesday, and these videos have been a huge help and invaluable in supplementing my lessons. With the DVSA cancelling tests Thursday and Friday this week, and putting together a contingency plan due to Coronavirus, very fearful my test will be cancelled. Until anything is announced will continueto watch these videos though!
I'm sorry that your test was cancelled. It has happened to many people and I doubt driving tests will go ahead for 12 weeks or more.
@@ConquerDriving Needn't be, would much rather my test be cancelled and pushed back 3 months than risk transmitting the disease to a vulnerable person, anticipated it would happen anyway! Just means I can brush up on theory, something that's undervalued and easy to neglect after passing the theory test. Thanks for all the videos you put out much appreciated. Wishing good health and safety for yourself and your loved ones!
I just want to say thank you so much for all the tips on this video. I watched this last night as I had my test today 1/02/2024. I passed my test as a first timer. I’m glad I stumbled on this video last night before I took the test as it was really helpful. Thank you!!! Thank you! Thank you!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I have learned more from Richard than from my driving school! Thank you so much Richard Sir! Love from India!!🥰🥰❤❤
I passed last year i beilive im a great driver but im still here watching this brilliant man. I was very nervous and overthinking things before the test but with your tips you put most of my mind at ease so thankyou very much. Keep up the great work
Each time i watch ur videos i learn smtjjg new... Which helps my driving... I wish if we had a chain of trainers like u across my country, then driving here wil be so much less stressful..
Excellent job as always Richards.. 👍
Thank you for such kind words :)
Thank you to show us how to pass your driving test and follow you all the time. Thank you for your time
I've got my test tomorrow I just hope and pray that I pass as I really want to pass after failing twice I really want to pass this time hopefully
Good luck
best of luck!
Good luck! Always remember that you're in control, not the car itself.

Did you pass? Please pray for me too , I've got test on 31st of March
I’ve just passed couple days ago and I’ve been watching your videos for hours before my test
Congratulations on passing!
I passed my test with 1 minor fault. Thanks a lot for the videos...
Your teaching/instructions are brilliant mate. I’m getting more confident by the day in preparation for my test soon.
An excellent video that many qualified drivers would benefit from watching. Observation and road position are critical to safety as of course is appropriate speed for road conditions.
Thank you.
I love how honest you are
Thanks for the clear videos, the diagrams helped me understand things better as I always struggled to fully grasp the info from learner books. I have my test tomorrow so I'm hoping for the best, not gonna give up!
I hope it goes well!
Extremely thorough, professional and helpful information, excellent graphics, delivery and presentation thank you.
Love the visual representation. Keep it up
Passed today on my first attempt! Your videos were a great help! Thank you!
That's fantastic news! Thank you for watching and congratulations on passing!
Very true, many of my customers assume they can do that.
1 Observations at Junction
2 Checking mirrors
3 Steering control
4 Junction turning right
5 poor Decisions
6 response to traffic lights
7 move off control
8 positioning normal driving
9 response to signals road marking
10 reverse park control
I loved your videos!! I have failed 5 times but your videos have helped me a lot to improve my driving 🤗
You're very welcome, keep practising and you will get there.
@@ConquerDriving I have passed my test today 🎉🚘✅ thank you so much for all the videos you do they are MASSIVE HELP for new drivers like me 💛💛💛💛💛💛
Just passed my test first try, thank you for this video. It helped calm my nerves, you're a great teacher. To anyone about to take their test, it's not as bad as you think! Just breathe and concentrate, the instructors aren't there to try to fail you, they WANT you to succeed!
That's fantastic news! Congratulations on passing!
Well done congratulations 🎉 is it true when you bay park you can choose whether to forward bay park or reverse I have my test Monday I’m quite nervous but reading this I’m feeling more confident
I've been able to drive for 14 years, I don't know why I watched this all the way through
Excellent video.
It is very true, teaching a beginner is quite different to teaching somone who is experienced. You have to approach it in a different way.
If I'm honest I zone out at the longer lights too. Can't stare at a red light for nearly 2 minutes without day dreaming.
Love your videos Richard, especially the mock tests are really helpful in understanding what learner drivers have to do pass! 🚗💨 I am thrilled to say that I passed last Tuesday (third time) thanks to my instructor, support from my family, and your videos! Thanks very much and keep up the great videos! 😀🚗💨
Booked my test for December
You and Pin ( DGN driving school ) will secure me that pass
I pass today with zero minors. (Failed last year with late braking at a red light) thanks for your videos. They have helped me a lot. I'm so happy right now. Thank you !!
Just passed my driving test after 10 years of trying and 4 attempts! Now it all feels anti climactic. Good luck and keep your head up.
Congratulations on passing! Sounds like you had a journey learning, well done for keeping it up.
Just passed my test yesterday!! I’ve been watching your videos for months, thanks a bunch :)
That's fantastic news! Thank you for watching and congratulations on passing!
Thank you very much 🙏🏻 I just started my lessons but still look forward for big day☺🙏🏻👍🏻
I hope the videos help!
Thank you so much for explaining this so clearly. This helped me so much. Test tomorrow I feel more at ease
Failed for taking too long at junctions, applying handbrake every time *to be safe* not realising this can obstruct traffic flow. This is in the channel islands. Thank you for the advice, much appreciated
I'm sorry to hear that. Keep practising and hopefully you'll get it next time.
I just passed my test today with four minor faults. Your videos helped me a lot. Thank you Richard ❤
When you said ''since I passed my test in 2004.'' I was like what? How old are you? You look like you are in your 20's (^_^) On a serious note I have only recently came across your channel, your videos are incredibly helpful. Thank you for sharing it with us Richard!
Thank you, I'm 33 but the camera is kind. 😉
I watched this twice right before my test and passed first time. Thank you 👌
That's great to hear, congratulations on passing!
Thank you Conquer Driving for this , yes I agree with first two major faults Observation and Mirriors , I failed because of this in my first test
I started taking my lessons a few weeks ago at the age of 16, I am now 17, your videos are helping a lot!
I am currently learning in a 2020 or 2019 ford focus. Though i'll be driving a 2020 mazda3 sport lux when I pass. Which helps because the Mazda3 is smaller than the focus.
The mazda 3 is a very nice car.
Passed my test yesterday, he is one of the most effective instructors!
I'm so happy to hear that, well done!
I am an instructor in Melbourne Australia ......your videos make my job easier in that they reinforce what i teach my students, more power to you mate !!!
Thank you ☺
The number one reason you did not pay the driver instructor enough money under the table😂
passed my test in Morden today, 6 minors, my first attempt, these videos helped me big time!
Love from Uganda 🇺🇬 East Africa, thanks mr Richard
Just abt to start my driving lessons. Been driving privately for over 2 years but it's always helpful watching these videos for extra info and knowing what to avoid. And just watching them cuz they're genuinely entertaining.
I got my test in October & im watching your videos hoping it will boost my hope ❤️keep up the videos
Thank you! Good luck in October.

I've been driving for a while now and these tips are going to always be useful for making sure my judgement is always sharp, great videos as always keep it up
I've passed yesterday with 0 minors!
Congratulations!
Wooow your a star ⭐️
We need proof
PASSED TODAY! With your videos and practice with my sister! Thanks mate
That's great to hear, congratulations on passing!
In Finland they fail you for not checking the blind spot when turning, because of potential pedestrians and cyclists crossing the road.
and dont forget those fking electric scooters
Thank you so much for this lovely video. A few points I struggle with so I know what I need to work on before my test. Your videos always help, so glad I’ve got you virtually!
1:50 That can happen every now and again when I leave my work as it's 60 mph road (NSL) that leads onto a 40 mph where I exit my workplace . No cars coming, pull out look in my mirror and see a car coming up close behind me. I don't even think they know I've just pulled out and just think I'm driving slow. Bad combination of a corner and speed limit change.
Today I have passed the exam. Thank you man! I have watched a couple of your videos. It really helped me a lot👍
Very helpful information thank you 🙏 my test is in 10 days I hope I will pass🤞
Good luck 🤞
Brilliant videos, thank you! Perfectly meticulous.
My problem is overthinking, however you justify YET, Simply my thoughts. 😊
I failed last Friday cause of harsh emergency stop according to the examiner. I had just 2 minor faults. Very sad moment. Your videos are very helpful , I am learning many things. Thank you again
i thought emergency stops were supposed to be sudden/rapid ?!
You're welcome.... The emergency stop is supposed to be harsh??
@@ConquerDriving yes she ( examiner wanted little smooth I guess) as we all know most of the instructor doesnt bother in order to practice emergency cause its not often examiner ask to do. But I was the one out of 10 and failed. Now I have learn how to use emergency stop. And I am sure I will get something else to do next time.
@@SuperRabin did you pass
@@ahmedislam2580 hello there yes I passed last year November. Thank you for asking. Have a Good time.
Hi, finally i passed last week your all videos are so amazing specially this video it's helped me a lot.thanks
Well done on passing, I'm happy to hear I've helped.
I failed my first test on 'moving off safely', because I put my indicator on before moving off and there was a cyclist on the road. Cyclist didn't change speed, I pulled off fine, only had 2 minors by the end of it, but they gave me a serious.
Passed the second time though so moral of this story, keep at it.
I actually failed for putting the indicator on for moving off when I was learning too.
So when you’re moving off after pulling up on the left you shouldn’t indicate ?
@@Ollyhands1699 it's OK as long as you are starting to move, but sitting with it on before you move off, will confuse any drivers coming up behind you.
Got my test tomorrow afternoon, richards vids have actually been life saving gonna reccomend him to anyone whos learning icl
Dude, you are a life saver. My teacher is good but has some quirks that make it hard to drive with him(makes you anxious at any little mistake).
however I watched a bunch of your videos before my last session and he said my driving improved by miles (no pun intended)
I’m also happy to say I passed my test first time. I was scared as my examiner was cold at the start but then it worked out.
Massive thanks to you. You are great.
It's great to hear the videos have helped. Congratulations on passing!
@@ConquerDriving the kicker was apparently that examiner has failed everyone one of my instructors students for the passed 3 years. so when they saw I had that particular examiner they were doubtful. So I’m definitely sure you played a part in me passing. Thanks again
Been watching your videos for weeks, passed my test yesterday with 4 minors faults so happy after 3 attempts.🎉 thank you
That's fantastic news! Thank you for watching and congratulations on passing!
I failed at my first attempt because I used the turn signals before checking my mirrors. The examiner told me in the middle of the test that I was doing something wrong at every turn and I died inside because I couldn't figure out what it was. My instructor should have prepared me better in this regard.
I'm sorry to hear that, try to stay positive and keep up the practise. They do want you doing the MSM routine. Mirror Signal Manoeuvre.
Thank you very helpful your video I just passed my driving test well recommended
Congratulations!
@@ConquerDriving thank you ❤️
