    I watched the race live on TH-cam, but your video is much more fun! A great "behind the scenes", and you're all obviously a fun group.
    Coming home with a medal and a smile, as you say, it can't have been all that bad (easy for me to say). Great stuff!

    Great video about what running actually is. There is a pain but also a joy in reaching the goal.

    Well done Phily for sticking at it, track racing is brutal and when things get tough the laps make it worse as you well know. Interesting watching how athletes travel to races. I really don't know why these races are in such random out of the way places, if they want crowds attending they should be in populated places with easy access. Supporters also makes a big difference to competitors.

      So true, Pacé was an odd choice of location.. and really not that easy to get to. Maybe it’s a cost reason for the organisers I don’t know?

    Impressive! I wonder how you do it and in how much pain you are. Esp. when you say that you can still feel the race from 2 weeks ago. You all are crazy ;-)
    The only time I was in a lot of body pain was after our crossing-the-alps by mountainbike tour. We started in Germany and reached Lake Garda in 6 days after ~11000m altitude gains.
    I did basically nothing after that for two weeks - except from eating/stretching/sleeping ;-)

    • @PhilyBowden
      @PhilyBowden  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah the pain is something I must master to not feel.. I’m sure I’d run faster if that were the case!
      Wow that sounds brutal, touché!!

    Great job on the run, and amazing that you manage to film such a quality video for your channel in parallel! 👍
    One thing I don’t ‘get’ (clearly not being a professional myself!) - why do ‘you’ (athletes in general) run your race according to how others run? Why not just take a ‘blinkers on’ approach and just run your fastest 10k time you can on that given day? I get that you might find some marginal gains in ‘slipstreaming’ someone for a while, but other than that, why not just run at your own preferred PB pace?

    • @PhilyBowden
      @PhilyBowden  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Great question, it sort of depends on the race - if it’s a paced open race for example (e.g. British Milers Club races) that’s what athletes will do - blinkers on, this is my goal PB and I’m going to run that. Championship racing though is different because tactics come into play, sure you could go blinkers on and try and run a PB but you miss out of learning to respond to tactics from other, more experienced (likely faster too) athletes who will likely win the race - they can do both, go out and run fun to tape from the front, or wait until 600m to go and kick for the finish and out kick everyone. It’s good to learn from different race scenarios to gain that experience and ultimately become a better athlete. I hope that makes sense, its a lot more intuitive than that in practise and very individual to each athlete and what they are aiming to get out of the race (e.g try to win, gain a PB, try a new tactic etc) and what their preference is!

    • @cliffwright1970
      @cliffwright1970 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PhilyBowden thanks 😊 - Does make sense but I guess (from a position of inexperience of this type of running) I’d feel a bit “What if?” If I’d run at ‘the crowd’ pace, lost out on the ‘kick’ stage . . . but suspecting that I could’ve run a faster overall time PB wise.

    Awesome racing looked pretty damn tough but you gutsyed it out. Still not sure what the difference is between European cup and European champs guess it’s like different European cups in football? I’m so ignorant 😂
