Yeah, definitely questioned this statement, hydraulic actuation is close to instantaneous due to the fact liquid is difficult to compress, I would not prefer electronic brakes, in the same way hydraulic steering is favoured over newer and almost consistently inferior electronic steering. I would like to mention Chris Harris's review of the SF90 seems to highlight much of the failings of this car, namely the electonric assistance this car forces upon drivers, I'd take the 458 over this any day, if I were I rich man, lol
It’s amazing how many automotive journalists don’t understand how these brake systems work considering they get to speak to the engineers that design them. Saying brake by wire gives people the impression that there’s no hydraulic connection between the pedal and the piston, which is completely untrue. In reality these systems are effectively an ABS unit and a master cylinder combined. However rather than using a vacuum booster to generate brake pressure, they have an electrical potentiometer on the brake pedal push rod which generates a signal which triggers the pump valves to produce pressure. An advantage of this is the ability to generate large pressures for emergency braking faster and more effectively than a person could with a traditional system, resulting in shorter stoping distances. The first production car that demonstrated this was the Alfa Romeo Guila I believe, using a continental system. The primary driving factor for these systems to be used however is their ability to interface with the motors in hybrids and full EV systems in order to blend hydraulic and regenerative braking seamlessly, whilst still providing a consistent pedal feel.
Be nice to know what that lil spoiler is doing back there, and anything going on at the front..? Love that car tho, really think that this new line-up Ferrari have, is the best they've had in a long time. They're on fire at the moment (and hopefully not on fire!)
I think they made a big deal out of the fact that it wasn't because at the time, Ferrari really didn't the car to be viewed as a hybrid. Just a regenerative kers system
I’m sure this this is an absolute missile in the right conditions, but the overall consensus has been it’s not even close to being a great drivers car because of its complexity and weight. I actually think it is a nice but generic looking car. I’d rather have an F8 Tributo despite it having significantly less power just because I think it’s a better looking car and still plenty fast
This is what I understood myself too. Too much control is being left to microprocessors, being such a complicate powertrain means the driver never has the possibility to take full control of it. Rwd ftw, LaFerrari still is the best Ferrari imho
@Rob Small it's a was unreal. At the time I watched it like 5 times in a row giggling because I had both of those car in hot wheels and posters on my wall as a kid. It was like my childhood imagination became a reality. I'm gonna watch it again right now lol....

@@rc0885 I think they like to make it like old school Top Gear. Pre Hammond and May. They've never really done the outlandish boys own adventure stuff. Not sure they have the budget
What is the point of having the heavy electric motors and batteries for the sake of 200hp when im sure you could squeeze some more out that 4.0 litre lump and just add 4wd. Ferrari have lost their way imo.
@@jibbyjabby7499 I doubt 'the authorities' could give a shit whether they're working towards electric. Anyway: what's the point of the electric motors at all, when you've already got circa 800hp? In what world is that not enough power?? I don't get it - how often can you actually use 1000hp!
Ferrari didn’t make it their way. They copied Acura way. They just made their car more powerful. Same exact design as Acura. 2 electric motors driving the front wheels. A motor per front wheel & one in the back helping the gas engine
Apparently it is faster than the LaFerrari in terms of potential lap times. Would be nice to have both 🙂. Or have one for a year and then swap over. F40 for me though. Old school
Half a million for a car that looks like an F8... 488 type replacement. I know its got the power but where does this sit in the range? Its like halo car laferrari power but the looks of their base model as such. Odd. I dont think it looks that nice either lol
I own both an SF90 and F8. Together they look nothing alike. Interior is completely different. Performance is nowhere in the same league. Meant to be a “bargain” hypercar.
That track isn't right for this car. Most die hard petrol heads know this. I'd like to see a bit of smoke from those tires. This looks like it's a LaFerrari with a V8 for half the money. Thanks.
Think Chris Harris did an F40 and F50 comparison on the same circuit? A fast sweeping circuit will show other facets of the car though. Check out the Chris Harris F40 v F50 video if you haven't seen it. He does get to drive them properly on there
I'm not a fan of the design, maybe it'll grow on me over time but there's just something dull and robotic about it, guarantee there will be a faster one in a year or two. Trade in rates should be high, not a keeper imo unlike the Ferrari; the Ferrari
I'd be writing to the producers asking why they're signing old school contacts for traditional TV broadcast instead of giving access to digital customers that have long since moved on.
Utterly pointless and overpowered. They are doing it to impress journalists with statistics. The best track / Road cars are as Chris Harris says in the 500bhp region without electric. A Porsche GT3 would make short work of this on any road or track.
Actually I found the SF90 quite disappointing when I drove it. Didn’t feel quite ready for the road and felt quite laggy and not very amusing. I’d much rather have a plain F8
Jason's got my vote to give the SF90 a real boot full in the dry
I just love JP's car control.
Come on guys let’s see Jason give the SF90 a real boot full in the dry … it’s only fair we all get to see what he and the car can do.
JP needs to drive that car in the dry and in Italy…sort it powers that be
Yep, definitely want to see you send it round an iconic Italian track in dry, sunny conditions. Come on Ferrari, make it happen.
SEría maravilloso ver una prueba en seco y en carreteras de montaña. Gran video como siempre.
05:03 No, they don't. Brakes are not operated by fluid flow. They are operated by fluid pressure. Which travels at the same speed as electricity.

This man just had like 4 drivegasms, even though he's experienced the best of the best. That's how you know it's a damn good car.
It doesn’t have main beam on the headlights, you’ve just got to go at 180 to get the front wings out of the way

didn't know Larry David was into cars
JP needs to drive this at Monza!
I thought you were Brian Johnson from ac/dc there for a sec lol..
Dry track ride for J P, please?
Jason Plato is great
I want to know is it anymore fun to drive? If not which current Ferrari for sale is?
