  • In the heart of Avebury village, steps from megalithic stones, stands a medieval cottage with all its charm and quirkiness.

    I apologize for the music being too loud. At this point I can't take it out or lower it as I would lose the whole film

    So wonderful. I absolutely love England. I’ve been there several times but have never stayed in a holiday let. You are so very lucky.

    My small house feels like a mansion now after seeing how tiny that house is. It was very interesting to see, thanks for the tour.

    Were you in Avebury Wiltshire? We used to live in a cottage which was decorated in a similar style, we moved to a new house with higher ceilings snd double glazing several years ago. It is still in the countryside and we have the bonus of having wonderful views, but I do still miss my quirky cottage !

      Yes we were in Avebury right next to the church

    The marmalade jar represents the tycoon Alexander Keiler, an amateur archaeologist, who excavated and re-erected the Avebury stone circle. He bought and demolished the mediaeval cottages that had been built in the centre of the circle. The whole site was sold to the National Trust for £12,000 in 1943.

      That is fascinating information. I had no idea about Keiler. Thank you so much for sharing. I wanted to buy an old marmalade jar but they're very expensive now.

    When I think about the ages and all the folks who stood right where you are standing blows my mind. Very nice share! How I am reminded that you pay tax on the amount of foodage you take up. That includes animals....

    People were smaller because the harnasses, metal suits, from knight were also pretty small. And the doors are low and people just were small.
    I advice you to open the windows time by time the get rid of the humidity. Air the house. It looks like my house but that is bigger and in the Ardennes, Belgium. Your interior gave me some nice ideas. Keep it up.

    I have to educate you on the low ceilings, nothing to do with the people of the UK being smaller. It was to retain the heat.

      You are very sweet to say such a thing. It seems everybody keeps beating me up about the music but I can’t do anything about it without getting rid of the film altogether. So your comment helps

    Why do you think that the ceiling, doorways and beams are so low? Lovely cottage.

    • @teabibber
      @teabibber  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      People were generally shorter in the past

    • @JoJo-Hamilton
      @JoJo-Hamilton ปีที่แล้ว

      It has nothing to do with people being shorter. The low ceilings kept the heat in. Hi from the UK.

  • @megapeiron
    @megapeiron 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    To me in the past they were not too tall so that is why houses did not have high heights.

    • @teabibber
      @teabibber  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So true, on the whole people were shorter.

    • @JoJo-Hamilton

      Unfortunately you are wrong.I am from the UK. The low ceilings were to retain the heat.
