    Great explanation. Finally someone explained what exactly to look for when looking into mirrors, I've struggled with that a little bit.

      I struggle a bit with that as well! 3 years later, how are you doing now with changing lanes? does it get easier with practice?

  • @danielleowens214

    This was by far the best explanation and demonstration needed in regards to changing lanes. I finally found the right info!! I struggle with how much to turn the steering wheel at a fast speed when changing lanes, how to gauge the distance of the car behind me and the time it takes to check the mirrors and my blind spot ! You hit it on the nail! Thank you!!

But this channel helped cause I’ve been going to Nigeria driving school but simply watching it here saved me d time & gave me the right insights. Thanks

    I really needed this. My driving instructor was telling my I kept doing this wrong/too slow but didn’t really explain how to correct it and I was feeling like an idiot. Plus having this explained to you on the highway while your wheel being grabbed is so stressful!!

  • @mostinho7
    @mostinho7 3 ปีที่แล้ว +30

    Done thanks
    Signal first before checking mirrors (because if you check mirror first you have to check again after)
    Must check
    1. Rear view mirror (if car behind you wants to also switch lanes, let them switch first)
    2. Side video mirror (if you see full car in side view mirror then you have enough room, also make sure car isn’t speeding up, if it is then let it pass you before you switch lanes)
    3. Blind spot check
    Steer slightly when switching not suddenly
    Don’t steer the wheel while checking blind spot
    Give your self a distance of two car lengths before switching behind a car, the car you switch behind might stop you need enough distance to stop too

    6:27 Really, I thought I was the only one. I guess it's a natural tendency to turn your head and wheel at the same time until you learn the coordination. I will never forget when I was taking driver's ed and the instructor would get so mad when I would do this. He got so mad one day, he said, if you do that again, I'm going to cuff you one. This is what I remember more than anything from driver's ed. I'm watching this video because 40 years later, I'm still not as confident as I need to be in changing lanes.

    Wow, my instructor literally made me to the slow checks you said not to do. It made no sense to me, to make me stare at the mirrors for so long, or be turned around in the blind spot check, because that way I don’t have eyes on the road... So my natural instinct to be fast was squashed and now I have to relearn it...

    The situation that I came across this morning was the following:
    I entered the highway from the acceleration lane/ramp ( actually it's is the first lane from the right that stretches all the way till the exit,it doesn't end ) .After that, I found myself in the middle lane , having 2-3 cars in front of me (moving with 110 -115km/h) and one car following from behind.
    The left lane was almost empty so it wouldn't have been an issue to change lanes to the left.However, returning back to the middle lane didn't seem easy and safe.
    Changing lanes to the left and then and slowing down to return to the middle lane doesn't seem safe and the right thing to do.
    On the other hand, should I want to speed up , I would have to go over 120km/h, get ahead of these cars ... and that doesn't even guarantee me that I won't miss the exit ( doesn't seem very safe either).
    What would be the ideal thing to do in that scenario? Honestly it's the only thing that is bugging me about the test and I get mixed responses .

    Dude!, plate Exercise oh my god I’m glad you did it too. It gives me hopes that this isn’t a waste of time. Since none of my family or friends know how to drive I have to exercise my brain to get used to the road. I imagine myself into feeling that I’m on the road with my imaginary pedals, mirrors, shoulder checking and hand over hand doing parallel parking as well as a lining while parallel parking, turning signal all day like 5 hours. I don’t keep my head straight I move my head scanning my surrounding.

    Excellent video. But you are in Canada, I'm in Australia. Here you signal and the car behind speeds up to prevent your change in a lot of case's. There is a total lack of courtesy here. In the West we even have an add on TV trying to convince people to be courteous.

    1.Could you please instruct how to do acceleration at merging points on freeway?
    2.Is it okie to press the gas pedal all of a sudden to reach the poster speed?
    3. What are the lines which we should note while changing lanes such as solid line with normal line and solid line
    4. Should be wait all the way to the very end of the merging lane to finish to merge the freeway.

    • @nicolassarazin2311
      @nicolassarazin2311 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      1) accelerate into your spot and don't brake, because if you do, everyone else brakes behind you, and that could cause a crash.
      2) don't do that, it will cause wheel spin, wheel spin gives you no grip, if you ever have to steer, you'll see the car not going in the direction you wanna go and you'll either steer too much and brake and then you'll see you are moving too fast in the direction you wanna go, that's called understeer.
      Sudden braking and acceleration is hardly ever good.
      3) don't change lanes on solid lines, you'd fail the road test and police would fine you.
      4)if you have to not be late, don't do that.
