You don't need to know italian in order to understand and appreciate this beautiful movie.
I am Italian. I did not like the ending at all.
That is the cinematic medium per se.
The sheer look of shock on the boys face at 1:13 gets me every time.. No boy should have to watch his father like that..

Exactly my sentiment. I was once that young boy that watched his helpless father go through similar humiliation. He passed away due to the consequences of that shortly thereafter without giving his son the chance to banish his sorrow. Life has since been a meaningless existence meandering through the wilderness of time while awaiting my chance to meet him again.

This is one of those films where you don't completely realize how great the film is until the last scene, then the power of the story hits you all at once and stays with you long after.
I remember watching this during my mass communication class , brings back such good memories, truly a work of art.

The ending scene is the greatest ending sequence I have seen.Great acting by kid and the father.

This film is really sad. Every time you think they are close to finding the bike it never happens and the situation gets worse. Also for those wondering, the bike is very important to him as his livelihood depends on it.
Not even that, it is his self worth as a father, as a husband. His whole entire family depended on it. It is easier to let yourself down. But way harder to let others down, especially the ones we loved the most.

A unique one
just watched for the first time for my film class... I loved it even though the ending was kind of dissatisfying
Gisele Bundchen (Bradys wife) brought me here. She said it was her favorite movie
often mistranslated in america as "The Bicycle Thief", even though the italian title is "ladri di biciclette" ( =bicycle thieves) and the whole point of the film is that there is more than one thief. yeesh, beloved yank friends!

I thought for sure.....He would get his bike back.....continue with his job......his wife would be happy, his son could continue to stay a "child"......but nOooOooOoo.......Ooh the humanity!!!

Things aren't a fairytale anywhere tbh, esp with the way things are going now.
I was going to watch this movie again but couldn't bring myself to do it. I was in tears the first time I watched it, but now, knowing the economic shitstorm that's on the horizon for us and the 10s of millions more that'll be unemployed in the next few months, it's hard to watch the the father's desperation and shame at doing everything and anything he can to help his family.

Is this an original trailer? Haven't seen anything of this quality... Was it a negative scan?... The tonal quality, contrast and sharpness of the image is stupendous...
It is probably remastered by criterion..
Cinematography, photography, takes, montage, score, and non prof acting, r all of a degree outside of what the big screen can encompass, escaping traditional cinematic dynamics, as the audience rather follows closely a father and child, not a/their story.
It is strange how this film inspired Pee-Wees Big Adventure, but this is a subtitle film, while Pee-Wees Big Adventure is completely in English.

ladri in italian is plural for thief and the title himself is referred to the fact the main charachter became eventually a bycicle thief

При просмотре таких фильмов, ЕСЛИ СОГРЕШИЛ(даже только в мыслях, в данном случае почувствовал проявление пороков записанных выше), надо сразу же ПРОИЗНОСИТЬ МОЛИТВУ ГОСПОДА нашего ИИСУСА ХРИСТА. «ГОСПОДИ ИИСУСЕ ХРИСТЕ СЫНЕ БОЖИЙ СПАСИ И ПОМИЛУЙ МЕНЯ ГРЕШНОГО». Стопроцентно помогает. И вот как БЫЛО БЫ ХОРОШО, ЧТОБЫ КАЖДЫЙ ПОНИМАЛ это. НО ЭТО очень «тонкие» моменты, ПОНЯТЬ которые МОЖНО будет ТОЛЬКО ЧИТАЯ, И ГЛАВНОЕ, ИЗУЧАЯ КНИГУ ЖИЗНИ, СВЯТОЕ ЕВАНГЕЛИЕ.

А ПОЧЕМУ мы ВСЕ БОЛЬНЫ. После ГРЕХОПАДЕНИЯ АДАМА и ЕВЫ они были ИЗГНАНЫ ИЗ РАЯ. ДО грехопадения они ЖИЛИ В РАЮ подобно АНГЕЛАМ. После, БОГ одел их в «одежды» что значит в тела, и ДАЛ ЗАПОВЕДЬ «ПЛОДИТЕСЬ и РАЗМНОЖАЙТЕСЬ» и заселяйте Землю. НО для размножения, В ПОЛОВЫЕ ОТНОШЕНИЯ ПРИХОДИЛОСЬ ВСТУПАТЬ БРАТУ С СЕСТРОЙ. И ЭТО было вызвано необходимостью а НЕ ПОХОТЬЮ. И ВОТ ПОЧЕМУ КАЖДЫЙ рождающийся ребёнок уже ГРЕШЕН. Только не физическое(физическое если вызвано похотью, между родными братьями и сёстрами), а так называемое ПЕРВОРОДНОЕ (ДУХОВНОЕ , ПРИЧИНА которого ГРЕХОПАДЕНИЕ) ПОВРЕЖДЕНИЕ(ГРЕХ, ПОРОЧНАЯ СТРАСТЬ) НА КАЖДОМ человеке при рождении. И У КАЖДОГО человека своя СОБСТВЕННАЯ СТРАСТЬ. И ЭТО БОЛЕЗНЬ, но БОЛЕЗНЬ прежде всего ДУХОВНОГО ПЛАНА. И именно ПОРОЧНЫЕ СТРАСТИ людей являются ПРИЧИНОЙ ВСЕХ БЕД, СТРАДАНИЙ, и РАЗРУШИТЕЛЬНЫХ ДЕЙСТВИЙ на Земле. А вот условия ОСВОБОЖДЕНИЯ ОТ этого ПЕРВОРОДНОГО ГРЕХА(ПОВРЕЖДЕНИЯ, СТРАСТИ) как раз и ЗАПИСАНЫ в КНИГЕ ЖИЗНИ, СВЯТОМ ЕВАНГЕЛИЕ. НО СНАЧАЛА , чтобы донести их людям, сам СЫН, БОГ СЛОВО ВОЧЕЛОВЕЧИЛСЯ(ИИСУС ХРИСТОС, имя ИИСУС означает СПАСИТЕЛЬ). А ЕГО за это РАСПЯЛИ. Но ОСТАЛОСЬ СВЯТОЕ ЕВАНГЕЛИЕ. Вот ЭТО и есть БОЖЕСТВЕННЫЕ УСЛОВИЯ , во первых ИЗБАВЛЕНИЯ ОТ ПЕРВОРОДНОГО ГРЕХА(а правильней сказать от ПОВРЕЖДЕНИЯ), И во вторых ДЛЯ СПАСЕНИЯ ДУШИ человеческой, ПОЛУЧЕНИЯ ЖИЗНИ ВЕЧНОЙ для ДУШИ, ПОСЛЕ физической СМЕРТИ тела , В ЦАРСТВИЕ НЕБЕСНОМ.
И поэтому ИСТИННАЯ ВЕРА В БОГА, в первую очередь ЗАКЛЮЧАЕТСЯ В «БОРЬБЕ» каждого ЧЕЛОВЕКА, ПРИ ЗЕМНОЙ ЖИЗНИ, СО своими собственными ПОРОЧНЫМИ СТРАСТЯМИ, И только ТАК можно получить СПАСЕНИЕ для своей ДУШИ.
Ну И ЕСЛИ каждый человек захочет "БОРОТЬСЯ" СО своими ПОРОЧНЫМИ СТРАСТЯМИ , ТО для начала, НУЖНО ПОВЕРИТЬ В БОГА, ПРЕСВЯТУЮ ТРОИЦУ: ОТЦА(СОЗДАТЕЛЯ ВСЕГО ЖИВОГО И НЕ ЖИВОГО, ВИДИМОГО мира и НЕ ВИДИМОГО),через СЫНА БОГА СЛОВО(ИИСУСА ХРИСТА), СВЯТОГО ДУХА.
А ЧТОБЫ "ПРИЙТИ" к БОГУ или ПОЗНАТЬ БОГА необходимо ПОКАЯНИЕ.
Ну А для того ЧТОБЫ ПОНЯТЬ ВСЁ что написано выше , И для ИСКРЕННЕГО ХРИСТИАНСКОГО ПОКАЯНИЯ, которое необходимо УСПЕТЬ(потому что ВРЕМЕНИ осталось очень МАЛО, ВОЗМОЖНО даже ПРИМЕРНО 1 МЕСЯЦ, И ВСЁ(смотри СВЯТОЕ ЕВАНГЕЛИЕ от МАТФЕЯ, ГЛ. 24)) СДЕЛАТЬ при ЗЕМНОЙ ЖИЗНИ ЧЕЛОВЕКА, ПЕРВЫМ "шагом" будет (и как об этом уже упоминалось выше) ЧТЕНИЕ и ГЛАВНОЕ, ИЗУЧЕНИЕ КНИГИ ЖИЗНИ, СВЯЩЕННОГО ПИСАНИЯ НОВЫЙ ЗАВЕТ. ✋🏻
