I'm 80 today, and soon to be 81. I think the same thing. I was a young man, it seems as yesterday.
The years gain speed as we age. I never thought I would be older than my Parents this soon.

I'll be 67 this December, and you know what's funny? When I watch _Columbo_ or some other television show from the 1970s and see outdoor shots, I can still feel what the sunlight was like then, what the world sounded like, can feel its pace and rhythms.
The other day I downloaded copies of _The Golden Book Encyclopedia_ that I perused when I was a young boy, and in the article on comets saw an image that off and on through all the years of my adult life has returned to me filled with beauty and mystery, but all I could remember of it was the car shown somewhat from below, its headlights shining in the dark under a winter sky.
Time is a beautiful and funny and woeful thing.

Life is very very strange. Most people only think about their daily meal and their car. Buying stuff.
I am 69. Longing for the times Nature still was Nature. When the oceans and the air still were clean.
When there was silence and beauty. Hardly any cars. No muSICK in the shops.
When people did talk to each other, looked each other in the eyes...... instead of watching their IPhones........

In 100 years, someone looking at your gravestone in 2121 will see you were born way back in the 1900s. Much as I look at old unattended graves while visiting my parents. Some were born 'way back' in the 1800s. Life goes on, and time marches on. People that lived in the 1500s probably thought they lived in 'modern' times. Just like someone who lived in the 1990s. If someone could explain why we SHOULD smile when photographed... Or even look at the spectator. If a photo captures the moment when you smile, or if the fact that you're being photographed on th particular moment / place / people around, fine. Otherwise it's pointless - or worse, hypocrit. Anyone can tell a spontaneous smile from a posed one. And a posed smile may conceal other signs of feelings.

The photos were lovely…there were no smiles or laughter, but they must all be close if they meet at least every year. I have three brothers I haven’t seen for years. Unfortunately my mother never encouraged loyalty in the family and actually drove wedges between us. She hated it when we were getting on with each other. After my father died when I was 32 the whole family sort of fell apart. She’s 85 now and I haven’t seen her for 25 years and I never want to. Fortunately I have a wonderful husband and son which more than makes up for my previous dysfunctional family.

The photos do not paint a picture of great happiness, but more of struggle and hardship. As I look back at my life (and I am much older then these women) I’ve experienced great sorrow, loss of family and have been to war, yet when I am asked to stand for a photograph, I find plenty of happiness in my life to smile about. From the photos one would think these women never had a happy thought pass through their lives ...ever. How sad. I do wish them well and hope they are indeed happy and I am wrong.

I have only one sister who is older. We grew up in a very dysfunctional family. Despite everything I have over the years begged her to be a real sister to me. She told me to take a hike. I hope these sisters realize how fortunate they are to have each other. Honestly I miss mine dearly.

the Anglo Saxons compared it to a small bird fliting through the hall . in one window out of the dark into the light for a few seconds then back out the end window into the dark.
probably a sight they witnessed quite often
