  • This is the legend of Alderley Edge which is very familiar to people who live in the area, so i am telling it for those of you who have never heard it. This story was part of the inspiration for some of the Alan Garner books, The Weirdstone of Brisingamen, The Moon of Gomrath and Boneland. These are favourites of mine since childhood and i urge readers of all ages to give them a go. Thanks for watching and subscribing.

Had never heard of this legend , till I bought some bottles of Wizard beer.
The label referred to the legend but gave no hint of the tale.
Thank you for sharing this with us.

This would hold an audience spellbound! You wouldn't hear a pin drop and your ability to convey a mystical tale like this is captivating. I wish my old English teacher was as good as you are at holding people's attention. I just remember fragments of poems and stories such as Robert Browning and things like Porphyria about a man who strangled his lover because she was too perfect. I didn't get it at age 15 but at least I can understand that a good tale transcends generations. Enjoyed it!

I'm so pleased you enjoyed it and thanks for the lovely feedback. I grew up with this tale so it's very familiar to me. I also spent many hours as a child trying to find the iron gates. I was convinced I would meet the wizard one day. I had a very active imagination.😀

It shows, Richard, and the fact that people across the globe have been very complimentary about your skills as a storyteller is proof that you are engaging a wide audience with your work!

Hi Richard 🙋🏼wondered where you had vanished to? 😉 you could read to me all night long (not that one again specifically) ☺️although it was good but your voice is soothing and would have me asleep (in a good way) in minutes 😴😴. Hugs x

You're very kind. Good question...a few reasons. Firstly, time constraints...we both have jobs, a house and two gardens to maintain. There was a time when we were making a lot more videos than we do now per week and it was frankly exhausting.

Thankyou. My family are originally from Wilmslow. My mum went to Cheadle Grammar School and lived at Lacey Green. I grew up in Macclesfield and used to visit the Edge very regularly as a child. I now live in London and have done for over 30 years.

You should read children's stories for a living. Kids these days would appreciate a bit of modern speech in there! Brilliant !
Or how about bed time stories for adults, about history of England/,UK? ( not naughty stories that would keep us all awake! Lol)

Many thanks. To do that kind of work one has to have an agent and go through the rigmarole of auditions, and irregular work...one has to have access to a soundproof studio, deal with copyright issues, etc etc....not to mention the huge competition from a multitude of already established artists. it's not something that I am prepared to take on at the moment.
