For search campaigns there is an easier way to do this. I'll upload a tutorial on this soon but what you want to do is create a Search Campaign and simply add in the [Exact Match] keywords of your competitors so you can bid on them whenever a user searches for it. Let me know if this works otherwise, I'll get the tutorial up to help with this.

Does this only work for video views? i set mine up to the T followed your lead all the way, then set up performance max ad, but doesnt seem to come up under saved segments :(

First off, I'm glad you're trying to implement this. It will work for Google Search Ads and not just Video Views because if you notice at around 1:20 when creating Custom Segments, it asks how you want to target the audience. The way it will target will be slightly different based on the format you want to use i.e. video or search but you can target competitor traffic well enough either way. Let me know how it works out for you and if you have any further questions.

Question.. I have 3 diffrent ads in each ad group. If I want to change or improve one of the ads in a particular adgroup how do I know witch ad to improve?

    • @GrowthVertical

Okay so if you have 3 ads in each ad group, I would initially ask - what is your goal?
Depending on your goal you would look at a particular metric. So if you're looking for traffic you would look at CTR against the number of clicks you have (you need to make sure there are enough impressions to believe that the ad is performing well in terms of CTR).
Otherwise, if you want leads/conversions then I would look at conversion rate against the number of clicks (so you know there is enough people who have clicked to have a higher conversion rate meaning it's more of an impactful ad). Make sense?
