    I will try out a universitz with all the great efficient buildings in sandbox, but what I love about TPC is that there is no need for this kind of efficiency anymore. It feels so much more rewarding to just build whatever fits the theme and layout of your current university and gives so much freedom without the feeling of losing a lot of effiency.

      Agreed. My "But it's wrong!" comment was made for the reference rather than trying to imply that people who don't maximize efficiency are somehow playing the game 'wrong'.

    A 4x4 room allows for 8, is flush on all sides (important) and gives you a couple more tiles for gaming, etc.
    Totally didn’t know that abt the microwave though!
    After adding enough deco and stuff to turn things green, cost me about $15k. Way worth it

    I think the Student Lounge is better than you give it credit for, but it's not because of the Fridge. Yes, that's the only item that provides food and drink, but it doesn't boost health. And it doesn't seem too popular with the students so even though it's ok, I think you should only place 2 in the room.
    Where this room excels is providing a cheap source of high prestige. While most items only give 20 prestige, the Student Lounge can hold quite a few that give 50 prestige, most of which cost less than $500. These include the Sofa, Brown Armchair, Table Football, Milkshake Keg, Kitchen Sink, Kitchen Counter, Microwave Counter, and TV. The other two gaming tables and Clown Trunk also prove 50 prestige but they cost more. And if you do want to put some money into this room, the Test Your Strength machine (80 prestige) and Crazy Taxi (120 prestige) can really make this room's prestige skyrocket. So you can provide food, drink, hygiene and entertainment at a fairly low cost and get a lot of prestige as well all in this one relatively small room.
    BTW, the best wall decorations available to most rooms are the Circuit Board, Family Tree, Posh Poster and Large Window. These give 40 prestige each. The Two Point Banner, Rainbow Flag, Road Sign, No Entry Sign, Chef Poster, Recycle Poster, Cheeseball Poster, DI Poster, Flower Pennant, Duck Pennant, Star Pennant, Food Groups Poster, and Hygiene Poster each give 30 prestige. Most of the rest give 20 prestige. For the floor, all the rugs I've found so far provide 20 prestige, so it's better to go with the smaller and cheaper rugs for preference.

    I love that you do the absolute best you can to min max each room. I do however wonder how you would build to make it realistic. My lounges are like 4X bigger so I can fit in the things I believe they'd want IRL like tables, chairs & sofas.

    • @nategar412
      @nategar412 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was able to fit 2 couches, 2 round tables, a dartboard, an arcade, a two player game table, a two player arcade table, a fridge, a sink, a countertop, a microwave, and a hand sanitizer into a 3x5 Student Lounge. Even with just that and one large window, the room is at level 6.5.

    @pinstar Loved your TPH vids, glad to see you did these as well.
    My only notes would be:
    1: Add a temperature item spot (behind the chair is where I put mine)
    2: (Maybe) Add a notation that if this is built near a building entrance, you can place the bench outside so they get the fresh air bonus while they're at it

    • @rodh1404
      @rodh1404 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The game does get harder as you progress. And I had an issue in Pebbly Beach where the game wanted me to research items for a subject I'd never used before, and which wasn't needed in that scenario either. My advice is to add "Internet History" as a subject to some university before you get to Pebbly Beach, and research all you can on that subject. There are a lot of items you can add to rooms locked behind that research, and the students of Pebbly Beach really seem to want it.

    In your experience, is throwing a Student Lounge Party worth it? It keeps the same students in it for the entire duration from what I've seen. Sure, those students will be much happier, but nobody else can use it. I can see it being helpful if you're concerned about Personal Goals, but beyond that I'm not sold on it.

    I'm not a fan of this design because I find the students cluster around the doorway, with many of them not being able to get in. That's not great for a room where you're hoping to have a lot of throughput. Instead, I go with a bigger 4x3 design where I add a couple of extra things (TV and milk urn). It gives me an entry area where the students can move more freely, and even then they cluster up sometimes. It's just not as bad as this gets with that doorway.

    Hey all,
    Just made it to map 4 having 3 starred the first 3 and researching everything available so far at Mitton. I have been using a largely similar plan for my student and teacher lounges of 3x4. So far I haven't needed more than 2 to 3 of each to keep people up. Poster and rug variety lets you get around a 10 in prestige iirc.
    I was curious about the fridges. Currently I am using 2 because they don't improve healthiness like food carts do and don't know the math. It is interesting about the tables because you can put benches and even the picnic tables and pink car table all over the map.
    For entertainment was reluctant to use the game tables for space but that creepy bookshelf adds attractiveness and entertainment. Maybe the tables are more efficient. 1500 is a decent price.
    Is there any different likelihood that students will use any particular item simply because it is in the lounge? Or is it just as likely they will use them anywhere on their path?

    • @Pinstar
      @Pinstar  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The game tables in there serve two purposes. They increase entertainment, even if a student doesn't have a partner to play against. Their animation isn't too bad compared to their benefit and they're a lot cheaper than spamming $3,500 arcade machines in the hallways. The other reason is student requests. After the first year you will get spammed with students requesting one of the three game tables (and a lounge itself if you don't have one). Building one of each will satisfy those requests, getting you free happy buffs.

  • @Rap1dACE
    @Rap1dACE 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Ah! Thanks for this. I was noticing students were constantly very low by 6% to 65% healthiness by eating cheesy crap and staying in big lounges all day microwaving their food.
    Even though I put a ton of water every where. I'm guessing they don't drink it unless they are friendship rank 2 first ? Anyway Fridge sounds super strong. Is it still okay to put posters up like the family tree poster? or does it waste their time looking at it?

    • @Pinstar
      @Pinstar  2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Posters are fine. Most of them will be inaccessible due to the objects that are pressed against the wall, so nobody will waste time staring at them.
      I'll have another video where I specifically talk about getting healthiness up.

  • @nicked_fenyx
    @nicked_fenyx 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Love your videos, and have found them super helpful. However, try as I might, I can't get this design to work. The main problem seems to stem from the footprint of the "2 player arcade table." I'm playing on Switch, and the shape of the footprint on that table is different than shown in your game. In your game, it seems to have a normal rectangular shape, similar to "Table Football," for example. But in the version I'm playing, it's more like a warped S shape. That extra required space means I cannot fit that, the football table, and a fridge a straight line along a three block length wall, as shown in your vid. Not sure if this is a recent change to the game, or some odd, platform specific difference, but fwiw, this design just doesn't work with the latest version of the game on Switch. Or I may be missing something. That's totally possible, too.
    Regardless, appreciate the video, as it will help me decide what's important in trimming down my own design for this room. Thanks, man.

      @Pinstar  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dangit, I was hoping that all my tips would work for console players too. That is certainly a bug. Hopefully it gets fixed in a patch. In the mean time, you may want that 2 player table to stick into the middle of the room so it can fit there, possibly.

    • @nicked_fenyx
      @nicked_fenyx 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Pinstar Good to know it's likely a bug. I did find it odd, seeing as the 2 player table was the only furniture I could think of with that sort of footprint, and it makes it awkward to fit it easily into rooms. I've run across a few other bugs as well, so hopefully the devs will go on a bug hunt soon and exterminate those issues. Meanwhile, I'll give your suggestion a try and see if I can make it work. Appreciate the input!

      I play on switch as well, there is a setting I turned off, The grid snapping I believe. Has helped me a ton get things positioned closer together & still have a room function. Check and see if that might be the issue Fenyx.

    • @nicked_fenyx
      @nicked_fenyx 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@toastythabrave9927 Thanks. I toggle the grid snapping on and off quite a bit, and it definitely helps with fitting more stuff in. What it doesn't do, however, is fix an item's actual shape or footprint, which was bugged last time I played when it came to the two player arcade table. That said, I reported the bug, and quit playing to wait for an update. The bugged shape of that table really made it hard to fit in anywhere. I think I saw an update go out not long ago, so plan to jump back in and see if the issue is resolved. If that specific table is a normal, rectangular shape for you, it may be they've squashed that particular bug. Here's hoping!

      @Pinstar  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are correct, but unfortunately, it is unavoidable. The student Union *requires* at least one four-person table as part of its list of objects needed to be a viable room. This is why I find the lounge to be the better option compared to the Union, since it has no such requirement.
