It's popular with people from New Zealand because the Gold Coast is closer than Perth is to the Gold Coast. Flying from Perth will take about an hour longer than Auckland to the GC. But the locals will tell you to be careful walking through long grass on the sand dunes. They will describe the grass as 'snaky'. 😂
