    I should have posted this video sooner, but things got so busy in Australia with the Women's World Cup that I was working loooooong hours. It was so worth it though... the biggest women's event ever! 🤩 I still can't believe I was part of it ❤⚽ Anyways, let me now show you Australia's holiday capital. Here's our first day walking in Gold Coast's main district, called Surfers Paradise. All videos in Australia are here: th-cam.com/video/2k--1eubJb4/w-d-xo.html

    It's amazing how much better the Coast seems through the eyes of tourists. Sydney is the same, especially the beaches. Growing up there and going back periodically through the years, I appreciated the scenery so much more as I got older and discovered that other cities didnt have so many of the things I had taken for granted. Thanks for the video.

    I just got back from the Gold Coast a few weeks ago. It was my first time there. We split our holiday between Surfer's Paradise and Byron Bay an hour south of GC. I loved it! I've barely seen blue sky for a year so it felt so good to be there. Like Gordon I was thinking of the real estate prices. I can't wait to go back and I'd love to live there too. My hotel/apartment block was about 400m south of your hotel. I loved watching this video and seeing the places now familiar to me. Can't wait for the next video!

    • @RenataPereiraTV
      @RenataPereiraTV  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Very cool. How was Byron bay in relation to GC? We read about it but decided not enough time. Did you research Sunshine coast? I hear that is a real gem. Thanks a lot for watching 🤗🤗

      @@RenataPereiraTVByron bay has a beautiful beach. More scenic and picturesque. Also has an iconic lighthouse where you can see dolphins and whales in the distance. It's the most easterly point of mainland Australia. It is a small town though albeit with plenty of stores and places to eat. Gold Coast is more spectacular and more things to do. More convenience. Byron bay more boutique and scenic and laid back.

    We absolutely love the Gold Coast. We bring the kids up from Melbourne each year. The joy it brings to their faces is worth every cent. There is just so much to do for young kids right through to relaxed grown up luxury. We rent a house on the canals for a longer stay. Much easier with kids then. The Pacific Fair shopping centre is amazing as well. A must see destination.

      @@RenataPereiraTV we’ve rented a few houses over the years. Some of the nicest are through Elite Holiday Homes. Mainly in Broadbeach and Surfers Paradise. Nice to see you showcase our city. If you look over the canals to where the hills start there is us waving to you. We didn't have the $3 million for the canal (much less the $8Mill) so we have to drive and park but we still call ourselves blessed and don't complain. We tend to go to the quieter beaches off to the south you saw in the distance.

    I have always loved the Gold Coast ever since I first started going there in the 1970's. I love it because of so many fabulous places to go to and the whole vibe of the place. And, as you say, it is very romantic enjoying an apartment in the sky with such beautiful surroundings.
    It had been called the South Coast from the 1870's and was first loved as a cheap place to build a beach shack, but following the War in the 1940's it became very popular and prices skyrocketed causing those who had been used to cheaper prices to use the term Gold Coast in a derogatory manner because they couldn't afford it anymore. As is often the way, the string of beaches rapidly owned the insult, and businesses popped up named Gold Coast This or That. By the end of the 1950's, no one was calling it the South Coast any more, as local authorities adopted the new name. And true to its name, Gold Coast developers would build and sell rich houses to millionaires. The Gold in Gold Coast is in all that golden property.

    It's been named the Gold Coast for over a century. The sand is golden, always. There's hotels, motels, caravan parks, units and houses for rent the entire length of the coast. Most Australians avoid Surfers Paradise, too touristy.

    • @RenataPereiraTV
      @RenataPereiraTV  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for sharing. Your favorite location to relax at? If most Australians avoid Surfers Paradise...who is the market for all those hotels/condos? NZers?

    • @letstalk3265
      @letstalk3265 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RenataPereiraTV Australians hate crowds when on holidays, especially at the beach except in school holidays, major events or young families taking advantage of easy access to the touristy things eg theme parks. Thank God we have miles and miles of great beaches to avoid any crowds. There is a right of passage each year called Schoolies Week where Grade 12 students flock to places like the Gold Coast to celebrate finishing school. It's huge, Been happening for over half a century. Queensland students one week followed by NSW/Victoria students the following week. The local population avoid Surfers and most Queenslanders have so many options eg heading north to the Sunshine Coast, Fraser Island (largest sand island in the world), Barrier Reef or straight east of Brisbane is Moreton Island (2nd largest sand island in the world) or North Stradbroke Island. Then you have northern NSW, which has essentially avoided over development and is God's country, except for Byron Bay. Options aplenty for Aussies.

    Glad to see you made it to my part of the world Renata! Locals don’t go to Surfers Paradise, it’s tourism central and the surf isn’t great.
    Gordon was actually a little bit correct on both counts as to how the Gold Coast was named, they used to mine the sand at Currumbin and Burleigh for gold, as late as the 70’s!
    I have a few videos on my channel about the Gold Coast with a lot more coming if anyone wants to learn more!
    By the way, the beachfront markets in Surfers are a major tourist trap 👎

    I owned a unit on the beach at Main Beach. The beaches were deserted because the local consider it too cold. Gold Coast is called Gold Coast because of the golden sands. Becomes VERY humid and unpleasant in high summer. we sold our unit and live 20 mins North toward Brisbane. Come in high summer the beaches are CROWDED every weekend.

    Are there also lots of cultural things to do? Musea, maybe “historical” seeings, or some things around arts etc ? Looks very relaxing those beaches. Ps is it safe , i mean with the cancer rates in Au, to stay long out in the sun? Or does the government advise against it? Someone knows this? Thanks ☺️

      Use Australian made 50+ sunscreen as its made for our sunlight & don't forget to reapply every hour if you go swimming, wear a hat that gives a lot of face coverage, wear UV approved sunglasses to prevent eye strain and squinting and don't stay in the sun for hours baking 😎
      There's more historical places in Brisbane city. Surfers has been developed so many times over the last 100 years so It's always changing

    1. beaches wouldn't have been busy as its currently winter and looks like you were there on a weekday? on weekends they can be packed.
    2. Gold Coast name did come the nickname the area got during an early real estate boom
    3. It may possibly host the 2026 Commonwealth Games as Melbourne cancelled plans to host. Still pending whether that will get approved though
    4. You swim between the red and yellow flags as that is the safest place to swim, outside the flags can be strong rips and currents that can be dangerous. Lifeguards can assist if you get caught it them, they don't only monitor between the flags
