    They need to get this designer to do more sets the details are unreal and he has some serious pull at lego with a set with so many new pieces.

    • @JekPorkbricks
      @JekPorkbricks 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the new pieces were mandated by BMW. The designer is good but I don't think he has that much pull; someone has to design this set eventually.

  • @BlackringIII
    @BlackringIII 2 ปีที่แล้ว +79

    This set is just absolutely insane in every aspect. I don't think I've ever seen so many new parts in a single set. A little bit disappointed about the relative durability: and, I didn't want to bring it up, because I can see how much effort went into this set, but does it feel like $200? Does it match the value of, say, the land Rover defender?

    • @ClassiqueMotors
      @ClassiqueMotors 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      The price point is, in my opinion, a little too high. This is due to the BMW licensing. The Ducati was a surprisingly good deal for a licensed set, unparalleled with any other.

      One of the problems i got with sets like this.
      If you gona use to many new parts it becomes more and more like a model building kit. I could make nearly anything if I'm going to use new parts for every set. This drifts away for what was lego standing, at least in my opinion.

      @@brickchef8282 I understand your point, but I don't think it "drifts away" from Lego's past. There always have been new parts each year, and those parts (if succsesful) have then been used in many other sets after. A lot of the parts that are new or rare in this set won't be rare a few years later.

    The lack of side mirrors is probably intensional since most bikes of that class can have the mirrors easily removed for track days, including that one.

    One note on the gearing: the reason it has a neutral in between the second and third gear is because in motorcycles the neutral is in between the first and second gears (hence: "one down, five up" when talking about the gear changes). You just named the gears backwards, since 1st is the one that spins the engine faster and 3rd the one that spins it slower for the same wheel speed.
    Timestamp for reference: 26:26

    • @matteocristini6221
      @matteocristini6221 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're right but on this bike it literally goes 1 2 N 3, at constant wheel speed here 3rd makes the engine spin faster. This means that the gearbox's design is flawed, because as you correctly stated, 3rd gear should make the engine spin slower. Racingbrick also pointed this issue out.

    • @marksawyer1841
      @marksawyer1841 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@matteocristini6221 If i recall right, the gears are in the same order as in the Ducati-set. Maybe it's intentionally to be a race shifting, where the gear pattern is reversed

    • @TFBRamos
      @TFBRamos 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@matteocristini6221My point is that what you called 3rd is actually 1st, as a lower gear makes the engine spin faster for the same wheel speed, so the transmission is correct. The shifting also seems to be correct for the street use, since you press the lever down to downshift, some racing bikes reverse that but it doesn't looks like they did it for the set.
      Or am I getting it wrong?

    in terms of functionalities I'd say it's ungenerous to say this set doesn't add anything new. By looking at how the gearbox work, I'd say it's the first time we see a gearbox where a sequential shifting mechanism includes the neutral "gear". If we look at the Ducati panigale, it featured a "direct" shifting mechanism, where the shifting lever set the gear based on position, while if we look at sequential gearboxes, like the ones of the Bugatti and the Lamborghini, the neutral gear is inserted or removed by a separated selector. This possibility of having the neutral gear reachable from the shifting mechanism gives us inspiration for possibly an F1-like gearbox. Using only the paddles we could go from Neutral to driving gears. It may be something that people can come up with on their own, but it's cool also for non MOC-ers to discover new kind of builds. I myself am working on a 1:8 scale F1 MOC, and I will try to explore how gearboxes with lego work to get to the point when I can construct an F1 gearbox where the neutral gear can be inserted directly from paddle shift

    Thanks for a great review, this bike seems to have taken everything I hated about the Ducati and fixed it, the bad screen and lack of front fender was almost offensive! As for steering lock, I have a real sports bike and they really are that bad. It's murder on the wrists trying to turn around in a tight parking space! However, building your own motorbike and then riding it on the street is the coolest thing ever, so this build might come close to that feeling. Great video as always.

    minor detail for bikes: the bottom gear is actually the first gear, not the fourth (as can be evidenced by the fact that the pistons move the fastest in this gear when moving the wheel, which means that an actual engine would move the wheel at the slowest speed). all bikes have a neutral gear between the first and second, then after the second comes the third, the fourth etc. this is actually a very realistic detail implemented by lego.

      @@searme Miles is right. On street bikes the 1st gear is always below the neutral, the second is above , and then upward the rest. Race bikes in the other hand use the opposite setup: 1st up, then 2nd and the rest is downward to let the riders change gear when accelerating out from corners. This way they don't need to reach under the shifter to change to a higher gear when the bike is leaning. I've spent some time to find a reference, which setup is used in this bike, and being a street bike it goes with the "normal" setup, not the race one. So the conclusion is: The Neutral is in the right place, but the ratios are turned upside down by the designer for whatever reason Idon't know.

    Probably mentioned before, the front mudguard isn't perfect but yours look weirder than it should because it's incorrectly built.

    How does this compare to the Panigale size-wise?

    • @searme
      @searme  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Same as to Harley, about 1.5x as big.

    I just started setting it all up and after finishing the first part (engine) I got a few extra parts. Is that even possible? Will I need them for something else later or I just screwed up? 😏

    • @searme
      @searme  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's called extra/spare parts, every LEGO set has them, see 19:26 in the video for reference.

      Neither. These are two completely different sets.

      As Sariel and Catzzz pointed out this is a quite stupid question. Beside being two completly different Lego Sets, do you really need someone else to tell you what you should like and buy? Even after Sariels great reviews?
      If you are interested in my opinion, I prefer the BMW because I like Technic Sets and have never been into the Batman movies. If you ask someone who is a big Batman fan but doesn´t like motorcycles you will get the opposite answer.
      So buy what YOU prefer!
      If you like both sets and can afford it, buy both!
      If you are not sure if you really like them, buy none! In this case you saved 400 bucks - huh!

    I can't imagine LEGO developed those new big wheels only to ever use them in one set. I think there will be more bikes in this size.

    • @lovemadeinjapan
      @lovemadeinjapan ปีที่แล้ว

      They usually reuse the tires, but the rims are "licensed" and are only for the BMW. I hate Lego licensed rims, they are usually uglier than generic ones (remember the obnoxious Sian ones), and not for sale in Bricks&Pieces. Got these from Bricklink, and I have to say the tires are great, but the rims are pretty ugly and flimsy. Luckily the tire elevates the overal feel when it is combined to a wheel. The front tires are a PITA to mount those, the wider rear ones are much easier to mount.

    Woohoo, my bike has just arrived. There's a new 11 stud beam with hole in both axes that I've never seen before. Can anyone advise whether this is new to this bike or is in other sets. Be really useful for some of my motorcycle mocs.

    • @searme

      It's in the other sets too. That's why I didn't list it as a new part.

    The M 1000 RR is a pure racing bike, which is not intended to be driven on the streets. That's why it has no mirrors or a kickstand. These things are simply too heavy and not necessary :D

    • @searme
      @searme  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Maybe, but you can literally see side mirrors on the official promo photos of the M 1000 RR, which I've used in this review.

      Often removed on track days... that and the indicators. But if that was their argument they should have changed the reference photos.

      @@searme sure, most pictures show them. but it is used often without mirrors, so for my opinion its okay to have no mirrors. at every other kind of bike it would be very weird

    Giving it a low score and knocking it for “low playability” is pretty stupid considering it’s not intended for play. No kid or adult is going to be playing with it other than maybe messing with the shifting functions. It’s a static display model that looks great on a shelf. Besides that, it’s meant to be a challenging model. If you want something actually looks like the real thing, then go built an injection molded model kit. This is as good as it’s going to get for a LEGO set and it happens to be pretty damned good.

    • @searme
      @searme  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a Technic set. It's supposed to be playable by definition. If I wanted a completely static display set, I would buy something from the Architecture line.

    Pierwsze było Porsche, kolejne Bugatti i Sian.. Za każdym razem to samo, cena z zada, skrzynia rozdzielcza bez ŻADNYCH realnych funkcji typowy zapychacz miejsca... A tu dodatkowo dowalili naklejek jak znaczków jakby ktos paczkę z ciasteczkami na stację kosmiczną wysyłał.. Serio Polska firma ma nadruki na zestawach za niecałe 40zł!!! Napaliłem się jak cukrzyk na bezę, a tu kolejny wizualnie niedopracowany gniot, z masą zakalcową zamiast pysznego nadzienia :/ Dziękuję Ci za kolejny Wspaniały film, jak zauważyłem Lego od dobrych 3 lat zdycha. Pora zakończyć z nią przygodę, ale nadal będę Twoim wiernym widzem:) Zdrowych i Wesołych świąt ;)

    Ok, if they're gonna make these $200 super bikes starting with BMW M 1000 RR, I hope they continue the series with other 1000CC bikes like Kawasaki H2R.
