So good! Just today I was telling myself how frustrated I am with my ironing board. There’s about 12-15” on one end that holds all the stuff I need for projects. I’m definitely going to do something like this. Thank you Lindsey. 💗🙏🏼
Iron Maiden! That is lovely! Great work. If you had two rolling carts, one on each side, I wonder if it would be more stable or if it will be stable enough. I can't get over how much of a game changer a ham, a sleeve roll and a clapper-point and edge tool made in my sewing. Great to know about the ironing board fabric, I need that! You are hardcore ironing lady!
Great idea, I’m getting ready to do the same, my table is coming today and my husband is going to add rollers to the legs. I needed more storage for pressing items, too! TFS!
What a great idea! Unfortunately I have the smallest room in our house as a sewing room and there just isn't enough room for a permanently set up ironing board. I am lucky enough to own a very wide ironing board but again the end tapers. Your instructions are very clear. Good job!
I find it so funny how often you do the same exact things as I do. I’m in the process of designing mine, I was going to make one for using at my machine though and it’s going under a table/ counter for quick press things. I’m using a table top ironing board. My table is a small tv stand I think, got it free from a friend and I’m putting castors on it as soon as I can figure out what will work with the bottom of the legs. I’m finally going to have a sewing space and this one is going to be over the top, ( I hope!) I’m almost moved in to my new place now and want to film the process. I would like to do a big board/ ironing station too like yours and probably would have already but somehow I always imagine lots of moisture getting trapped inside one like that. Is the way you layer it going to prevent that? I mean the product you used. The people I see who use them or have made them are smart and I can’t imagine them doing something soggy and mildest, haha. I’ll make one ASAP if it won’t get moldy in there for sure.
So I worried about the mold too. But the ironing board cover is super water resistant. Like water pools on top of it. So i don’t think any moisture is getting in.
We have the same brand and color cart.. and use it the same way. I may just be over awed by the similarity because I haven't shook all the sleep from my head yet LOL. Now I am eyeing my microwave cart and wondering where I would put a larger pressing station ;) I just wish Joann would ship under 2 yards!
I'm perplexed! My experience with MDF is that it's not great if it gets wet...it tends to swell up. Is there a waterproof version that you used? This is a very cool idea! And an easy to follow video. Thanks!
Please let us know how it goes as you start to use it... I have been wanting to get more storage in the space wasted under the ironing board but I’m too unsure about losing the tapered edge on my ironing board or switching to a table top board (which I hated because the legs interfered with dress and top hem pressing which could be circulating around underneath)
I've been using a cart like this (from IKEA) for 5 years, at least. I love it, and don't miss the tapered end at all. I do have a mini ironing board that I can put on top, in case I need a tapered end, and a sleeve board. I'll never go back to a regular ironing board. I just press dress/skirt hems differently now, not relying on them hanging under the board surface
I have that cart. I let my husband use it but maybe I'll take it back now. I found it for like $15 at a massage place that had to close down due to pandemic. I may just put a June Tailor quilt and press board on it instead of constructing my own board.

I have a similar set up - just wondering why you didn’t buy two of them which would have made it really sturdy and given you more storage space?
That was purely a budgetary decision. I’ll keep my eye on the cart and if it goes on sale, I can always add another one.

The MDF doesn't get wet because the ironing board cover is waterproof. No steam or water gets through that stuff!
