    When you’re done with your warm up and foundation practice practice your speed generation. Check out the tutorial here: Improve Your Surfing - How to Generate Speed on the Surfskate

    day 1 surfskate (literally yesterday) done and mind blown today...jump on the board, switch skate weight distribution, etc...makes sense though-I'm use to regular stance on downhill skateboard and almost ate it hard when i went heavy front foot (my custom longboard with Carver C-7 trucks). Every video you share is so simple and functional. Thank you so much for making beginner's learning fun and enjoyable.

      Awesome friend! Keep going- you’ll find the right amount of weight and of course all depends on the board.

    i´m a beginner, is very difficult for me jump to de board, you have a especial tips for make this moviment easy? (the skateboard slips forward or backward, which makes me feel a bit insecure)

    • @ALLaBOARDvideos
      @ALLaBOARDvideos  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The only reason the board would slip to either direction as it is if you lean too much on that foot meaning if you lean too much on your back foot, the board will slide forward and vice versa. The first two tips I would give you would be to really focus on your center of gravity. And make sure your feet land above the trucks, above the wheels, and not behind or ahead. The second thing which is always important to remember is don’t look down and look at the direction that he would be going. Even though you’re just jumping to the board and not moving anywhere look to where the board is pointing. Our tendency is, especially because of fear, to look at our feet and the board. But in fact, it doesn’t help us at all.
      If you still feel like fear is in the way, and the board is moving too much, take a step back and put your board on the grass or even just place something on both sides of the wheels so the board doesn’t move. And just practice jumping to the board keeping your head up, the basic position that I show in the video. Focus on your center of gravity and then when you feel more confident, move your board back to Solid Ground.
      Keep me posted on how it’s going and we can move forward form there

      Thank you very much, I've only been practicing surfskating for 30 days, I've been riding street for almost 18 years and I went this year as a hobby and to help with weight loss, I've made a lot of progress with your videos, I can now do the tight turns, I can already take fluidity and speed but I can't stay on the board while still, and I feel very insecure trying to do kickturns and jump on the board, I fell several times trying, this scared me@@ALLaBOARDvideos

    this is excellent thank you for this tutorial. I’m gonna try to practice these things especially the switch stance or going up a small bank and then rolling down. I find if I don’t do things like you showed surf skate trucks are very Squirrley and now I know how to mitigate this I want to know your thoughts on, perhaps not having very soft or loose trucks that add to Squirrley Ness and also maybe show us some thing Surf skating on Nick surfaces where we might find debris or cracks and our feet position I have fallen down five times maybe because I was going slow and my surf skate truck buckled, turned and threw me down and I landed on my elbow. This Has to stop. I’m so paranoid now when I’m not skating in a park. Any kind of rock or piece of debris can throw me down not like my longboard great feel more comfortable and relaxed. Any suggestions?

    • @ALLaBOARDvideos

      Thanks for watching!
      I find This video, although not watched as often, to be crucial and fundamental to progression. so I def. encourage you to practice rolling down - if you move your weight to the back, the front trucks won't swivel and you'll keep steady.
      -- The Swelltech is very loose but I agree that boards that are less so, such as carver, are more convenient to ride in the streets.
      -- As for cracks - my only true advice is use them to practice turns, so - try to avoid them :) unless you ollie over it (which I def cannot do with the surfskate) then avoid them. Most surfskates have bigger wheels and somewhat softer, so small nicks aren't usually a problem. but for more substantial stuff, or branches - avoid.
      -- No doubt - longboards are meant for cruising, and the larger wheel base gives you that stability. Super fun - but not a surfskate hah. So, each board - different purpose.
      Hope it helps!

    Hey, great tutorial, I am I am wondering where do you look when you jump on the board? Down, forward, ahead?

    • @ALLaBOARDvideos
      @ALLaBOARDvideos  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s a great question. Ideally- you want to keep your head up at all times. As you’re starting You want to look before jumping so you don’t miss the board. But at the same time try to keep your head up and look to the direction that you will go once on the board. In other words, start getting used to keeping your head up (not down) and get more familiar with the board size shape by feeling so you will slowly not need to look down at all. Hope that helps. Let me know if you have other questions

    Do you surf as well? Does the swelltech technique translate at all?

    • @ALLaBOARDvideos
      @ALLaBOARDvideos  23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I do surf. I would say intermediate working in cutbacks and snaps.
      - The swelltech is very fluid. Very loose and I found it very surfy and definitely fun. I think after riding several surf skates on both flats and parks I would say that what made the difference for me was working on the park on a long wall or ramp treating it like a wave. You can see what I mean in the Kickturn video:
      th-cam.com/video/jXw8zOuAC_M/w-d-xo.htmlsi=NnEFl2QmtJP7uR3Q
      I’m now riding the Yow, I find it to have a great balance between looseness and resistance that is close to surfing. Both systems would be a great choice but if you plan to practice in a skatepark area I would say the Yow might be the better choice.
      In regard to surfing - you can practice speed generation on any surfskate. And I would say that for more advanced maneuvers it would be far harder to learn the movements of the waist hands head and balance of snaps if I didn’t have Surfskate. When I surf I know exactly what I’m looking to do- it might not always work but at least I have the movement in mind and It brings a definite advantage to the process.

    Is surfskate a good off season practice for snowboarding?

    • @ALLaBOARDvideos
      @ALLaBOARDvideos  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a good questions- I'll say that - if you truly practice surfskate, repetitive speed generation, turns, etc., it will definitely keep you in shape and keep your legs super strong. So, in that respect it's a great practice. However, if you mean in terms of actual riding, the technique is not at all like snowboarding. If I wanted to practice snowboarding, with no access to a slope then I would have a routine at home, on a rug, and on a pipe (if you're a park person). Hope this helps.

    I don't think jumps and kick turns are for beginners. I've never fallen off the board skating, but fell really hard kick turning cause I put too much weight on the back foot and my board shot up.

    • @ALLaBOARDvideos
      @ALLaBOARDvideos  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’m really sorry to hear you fell!
      The video is aimed to beginners, not necessarily brand new riders, as intermediate riders would usually be more comfortable doing a kickturn. But, regardless, I show how to do a very small kickturn at first. The reason is that you then reduce the risk, you put very light pressure until you can control the board and your balance in weight shifting better.
      Putting too much weight is common and happens. As much as I wish we could avoid it entirely, sometimes it’s Part of the learning process and can happen in advance riding when learning new maneuvers. Happened to me just the other day on the wall. Sometimes it’s the balance between risk taking and cautious and progressive learning. Protective gear is always recommended.
      I hope you are ok, and would love to help if you have other questions or videos of yourself riding. Please don’t hesitate.
