What makes it so awesome is that instead of being a simple game that’s disguised as a hard core deep experience, it’s a hardcore deep experience that’s disguised as a simple coop shooter.
exactly 👌👌
Perfectly put
You get it 😮
This is exactly what it is. Not only that, its Super (see what I did there?) fun. I haven't been this immersed in a multiplayer game for a looooong ass time. I play for hours and don't even feel time passing, I keep having a blast.
Also, its pure fucking chaos at the best of times.
I’ve died more times to teammates orbitals then any enemy has killed me
Have you tried the mortar turret? Its a killer.
Me but to mortars its so annoying bc im trying to go and find samps but theres like 3 mortars shooting around the map
ur teammates are really the biggest threat in the game lol
I would get mad about friendly fire...until I Team Wipe the squad because an enemy bumped my barrage outta my hand. Shit happens. Alot in this game lol. It's part if the fun though.
i tried the mortar turret and i ended the game with over 1000 team damage its so good but bad at the same time@@varjen018
Just imagine if Warhammer 40k did this exact same formula. Fighting tyrranids, chaos, or what ever else as a space marine of your choice. It fits sooo perfectly if done right.
I've been telling my friends the exact same thing. They automatins could easily be the orks, but GamesWorkshop is super anal about giving companies the license
For the love of the emperor, make this game
If this wasn't a live service game.
I would love to see modders reskin the SE soldiers to the Imperial Guards.
@@buburbasi3983Kasrkin reporting for duty!
Who wouldn't choose a Terminator Marine with an assault cannon?
But seriously, if GW could get their act together and give licence for a game like this, I'm all in.
A small thing that really got to me: as I was getting frustrated with all the bullet-reflecting armored enemies I realized that the hit detection is so precise that if you see a _tiny_ gap in the armor you can hit the squishy spot. Gaps in armor _are not_ merely aesthetic, so if you shoot a Terminid for example and it hunkers down but it still has gaps between its head and legs you can shoot that
Sold. I’m getting this game
@djandjb1 just warning you, the devs didn't expect so many people to play the game so as of rn the servers are full and overloading but they're working on it and fixing it, your best bet is to play on a weekday like Tuesday or Wednesday
@@ICatoSicarius Aahh, maybe I wait another week then, can’t afford it rn anyway
@djandjb1 okay I can't wait to see another one onThe battlefield tho :)
Legolas said it best at Helm's Deep "their armor is weak at the neck, and beneath the arm"
The thing about the damage numbers is the fact that they wouldn’t go up at all. Higher difficulties doesn’t give the smaller enemies more health and you don’t do more damage, it just spawns tougher enemies and more of them
Difficulty only effects 3 thing
Type of Enemies,
Amount of Enemies,
Complexity of Mission Objectives.
Which is like. Some of the best way to handle difficulty
@@BlueBDthanks for the insight
Absolutely. I love that they don't make enemies higher hit points or dps for harder levels. Keeps the weapons and strategems 💯 relevant throughout.
Damage numbers imo r fucking dumb. Very few games I tolerate them but I feel like it's unnecessary clutter most of the time. It'll die when it's dead, til then I keep hitting it. Like the living anatomy perk in fallout that gives accurate hp numbers on enemies I completely ignore and just take the perk to see weakness stats so I know what to use.
@@BlueBD yep, can the swarm can get crazy
You don't need damage numbers when you can visually see the impact of your damage.
Damage numbers are immersion breaking.
Very well put if we talk about HD2.
From what i’ve seen, there’s also no real scaling of weapons like in mmorpgs so there isn’t much point i’d think.
Agree 1000%
@@dardo1201100% difficulty scales by the amount and type of enemies spawned, not damage taken/dealt. Playing medium/challenging will teach you how your weapons will act in higher tiers
One thing that blew my mind was the dismemberment system. Ravagers can lose arms and still rush you. Bugs can be decapitated and will still charge you for a few seconds before dropping. Chargers can have huge wounds blown in the sides and will still limp towards you. When you're surrounded and stim or grenade, you can hear the character panicking, or screaming about their arm or leg. The desperation of war is REAL here. Now if only the devs could figure out how to fix the servers from the overloads they've been getting. The first game peaked at 6k users. They JUST upgraded the servers to allow 360k, hoping that would be enough. The servers still died, and last number i saw on "Active duty helldivers" on the map yesterday before the crashes was about 400,000. Remember, the game isn't just on steam, its crossplay with Playstation, so the steam numbers aren't all of the players.
Nope. They upgraded again and I think it was more than 750k players, PS5 and PC combined ... Mostly taking away ps5 players spots
PC players are massive aholes and they leave the game running so they don't get kicked off the server.
And so today I had to wait 15 minutes to get with a stupid server at capacity error.
PS5 players should get priority, like 70% at least.
There's way more PS5 players and that server issue might kill the momentum because of PC players playing 24/7.
When PC was at 140k, PS5 was at 220k. Now it's 350k pc vs 400k on PS5.
Thats A LOT of PS5 players not getting in and giving up.
Not a good look for a Sony game. I'm not buying the next Sony live service game on PS5 if I gotta get screwed like that.
@@kato093 found the PS5 player lol.
But yeah, if you pay for the game you should expect to be able to play it.

If you see your friends climb a cliff or any climbable object, go and melee them.
It be funny trust me.
Hahaha
I assume Asmon misunderstood what kind of game this is with the damage numbers thing. Your damage does NOT increase as you level in this game. You simply unlock different weapons and stratagems that are strong in different situations. Though some are undeniably very powerful. You see all damage by looking at the condition of your enemies, and it’s amazing.
Not an Asmon fan, it's about the third video I see of him, but it seems like he doesn't understand a lot of things.
Why you hype this guy? I'm not hating, I seriously don't get it. lol
@@nerd-mask723 I just like how he's unfiltered when playing games. Both goofy and serious. Seems like he also gives games a fair shake judgement wise while also being honest about how he feels towards a game and seems self-aware of his own bias's, sometimes even acknowledges them. Idk, he just gives off genuine vibes when he's not playing into the "Asmon" persona too much, or just going off the deep end on something to get more out of it (feels like he does this, which I wouldn't blame him being a personality streamer and all)
@@nerd-mask723he plays as gormless when it comes to things like this for the sake of interaction.
@@nerd-mask723yea lol most of his take (unless its from wow) are pretty bad and empty. Like most of the time is about « this guy bad person », « corporation are greedy » and people seem interested. Idk the algorithm alway show me his video and whenever I click on them I get frustrated by his comment and the fact that everyone agree with him. Idk its weird man
One of the biggest things to me thus far is the fact that right away, enemy bugs can SEE you from far away and start to slowly investigate before confirming you're food for them. To start running towards a patrol of bugs really far away only for them to just turn their head at me caught me off guard a lot lol
This game does have a simple game loop but it’s so much deeper than you would expect. For me, it has been one of the most immersive games I’ve played. Between the explosions, screen shake, music, voice lines, etc it makes you truly feel like you are in another world battling it out. It makes you feel powerful and weak at the same time. I hope they continue to develop and iterate on systems and just go wild with this game, because it is truly a blast to play.
Asmon got it perfectly “there is something about this game I’m not getting” there is something about it that doesn’t translate over video the best, but you understand while you play it
Way overhyped. I'm bored out of my mind already. He isn't getting it cause it's easy to see right through this game for its surface level only content.

Get a job.
What makes the game magical is how physical and real everything feels. Its super immersive, everything is physicalized, and the armor and penetration systems are phenomenal. Every bullet you put through an alien is fully physicalized projectiles and the penetration and destruction of flesh is calculated in real time.
damage numbers wouldn't make sense since the game doesn't use health pools, it uses damage models.
You get it.
Some people don't.
I'm a junky for games with lot of details, and good feedback overall.
It's not something random.
It's there because some devs are deliberately putting it in their games.
And I really love that.
It can come in various forms.
Generally it comes from competents and passionates game devs.
Yes, this is why games from 90s-2000s (Half-life 1 & 2, Far cry 1 & 2, old Halo etc) are simply better. Feedback loop in the gameplay is extremely satisfying cause several systems are working together for an emergent gameplay. Helldivers 2 is leaning heaviliy into this game design philosophy and that's why it's fun af.
Oldschool gameplay systems in a modern game.
Why need damage numbers when you can feel the impact of every gun and explosion?
I'm pretty sure the first one had damage numbers no?
@@NewsofPE No.
Oh snap he watched my video
I played the first helldivers and it's actually a pretty impressive thing about it. It's engaging, intense and so very satisfying when you win. The entire community pretty much fights together as well to obtain perks, weapon and droppod special gear to get. You don't have to be in the mission long but the longer you are in the more you can get. You can hide or go guns blazing, obtain some unique cosmetics. So much yet it was a simple eagle view shooter. It's crazy
When can you ever hide in this full mentally insane game EVER, except when u play on the lower difficulties
I think as a situational tactic sneaking up to place a stratagem
@@tonybergman9488 I find its a lot easier to sneak around on the automaton missions since the patrols tend to be a lot smaller and slower than the equivalent patrol in the bug missions.
@@tonybergman9488 when the mission starts and you are lucky you can maneuver around and avoid patrols as you go. At least that is how it was done in the first game, it really was not easy but it was still doable.
@@PradoTraceAZ I think there was a stealth stratagem in the first game but I do not remember, this was years ago after all.
This game is insane. It's like Terminator + Starship Troopers + Halo + Warhammer 40K + Destiny

And a bit of Starhawk (PS3) where you can drop orbital bases on your enemies, God I miss that game.
One of the coolest things I found out playing is that if you look out into the horizon of a map you are on, you can actually see other multi player battles far off in the distance. That ups the immersion so much.
That's cool
wait, really? that's cool! :D
No.. Those are decorative lol
Yeah that’s not real. You think these servers could handle that? Lol
They may not show the strata gems being launched but they do show the amount of destroyers in orbit from the planet surface or in space which is a cool detail
Whenever a team fails one explodes as well
back in Helldivers 1, some of the best moments were extractions, or games where you clutch a reinforce, the music, the gunfire, the 12 heavies charging you. This game dialled it all up well passed 12, it's brilliant.
Yep. I managed to clutch a level 7 extraction while defending the civilians mission.
I was the only one sending the civilians and we got overrun at 18/40. My teammates started dying left and right and I started running like a madman, releasing them while ducking and weaving in between tanks and big mechs, using the medic passive of the 4 seconds of stim stamina and hp Regen.
I have no idea how, but all those civilians managed to somehow reach the objective and I called the extraction with 0 respawns. Then they all died and i was alone, having to wait 2 minutes as the ENTIRE CAMP was FULL of enemies.
Luckily at that point my mortar and Gatling turret came back, as well as the 110mm artillery and I destroyed 2 tanks and a few of the big boy mechs, killing everything I could with the auto cannon.
That was the last mission of the bunch and getting all the medals with a clutch escape was so satisfying. Teammates were screaming from the hype.
Get the light medic armor cuz the 2 extra stims and +2 seconds stims are AMAZING.
Another clutch extraction was at the start as we jumped into a lvl 5, kill 2 bike Titans Mission as a duo and lost almost all respawns in the first 5 minutes. I was alone with crap stratagems that won't kill any titan anytime soon (basic orbital, basic Gatling artillery, Gatling turret and machine gun) and still 1 titan to kill and only 3 minutes left with tons of enemies everywhere, bike spewers spitting acid everywhere and chargers chasing me. I manage to damage the titan and buy enough time for an extra respawn and throw. It directly at the titan and he gets splatted. My teammate dies 3 seconds later, crushed by 4 chargers and a bunch of acid spit.
I haul ass to the exist and the timer runs off. I start running around like a madman, chased by like 50 bugs at least, no heals.
I manage to find some stims and grenades and kill a bunch of them until the extraction arrives and as I'm about to leave I get slowed and use the stim. I get thrown around twice, completely surrounded so much that I can't move. and finally I dive out mosh pit and dive again right into the ship.
That was my first bile titan experience and escape.
This game is even better than helldivers 1 and I loved it.
Hope they move FAST and add all the coolest stratagems asap. I want my bikes, cars, various mechs and tanks.
Also, they have to balance the weapons and add an upgrade system like the first game. Change optics, bigger mag, different ammo types. I want a portable Gatling gun.
Maybe pull a lost planet where you take it off of the mech.
Oh and I want my baby quad missile launcher back.
A little rover that heals you. The UAV isn't needed anymore, might become a grenade slot consumable.
C4 and mines are a must.
This game is fucking insanely fun... the sheer fact that you are all trying to achieve new maps, new worlds, new weapons... is SO sick dude. These battles feels like early days of AB in WoW. Week long battles.

The combat is just so fucking satisfying, like the way the enemies dont have health bars but you just see chunks of their bodies just falling off blood everywhere its so visceral and the sound design is top tier
The sound, fog, ordinance, and performance in general make the game incredibly immersive. It really is on another level here. It’s a shame the servers and matchmaking are kinda poopoo though.
The most fun I've had gaming in years. Solo can be intense but playing with a squad is where it's at. Best co op in a long ass time.
I also gota say im loving this new trend of less known games without a massive marketing push being the games people want to play because they are just quality games. Almost feels like some kind of a renaissance.
And releasing on PC at the same time instead of treating them like an afterthought is obviously the way to do things going forward.
Its fun seeing people react to things in this game that OG Helldivers were doing 8+ years ago.
Exactly bro me and u were preaching about helldivers 1 on release now everyone's hopin on the bandwagon now 😂😂
They've been missing out, glad they all finally get to experience it nonetheless
This is the Starship Troopers game we always deserved
"simple gameplay loop, why do people have fun?"
"Friends.."
I really like that from your ship you can see battles happen on the planets surface in real time, even the orbital bombardments and lasers they call in. It's also cool that you can see your ships that you dropped from floating in the sky above. Or that laser based weapons that overheat, overheat less on cold planets due to the ambient temp. Your cape gets ratty and tattered if you take certain evironmental effects like burning, or covered in blood if the alien bug dies too close to you. There's so many tiny details that really sell the immersion of this game, I'm currently at 20hrs and have been playing every day since I was gifted it.
ngl, the coolest parts of this clips for me was the battle against robots. That shit looked insanely cinematic.
Bots feels light fighting the Terminators, and Bugs feels like starship troopers. In short: awesome in both directions
When you play this game, you feel like the protagonist of a starship trooper movie 50% of the time and it is amazing, the other 50% you feel like the fodders in a starship troopers movie and that’s even more amazing.
killing bile titans with a random helbomb on the ground is chefs kiss.
the moment I realized this game was amazing was the fact that doing anything in the game and pulling it off is so satisfying.
i tossed a nuke arty randomly then the titan poped out on top of the stratagem
it's even better when it's the bio titan himself stomping on it and detonate the nuke
Try one shotting it with the Railgun in Unsafe mode. Satisfying when it works (hit the mouth when the Titan is charging).
its like playing coop halo with your friends. those are some of the best gaming moments of my life and helldivers 2 seems to have lit a spark in that formula
0:47 when I first heard of HD2 I got hyped, been playing the first game for years and I was excited to see what the devs could do for it in a third person viewpoint
the game is brilliant, unfortunately the one server running of a 20 year old 50$ laptop is currently melting through the earth and approaching the core at rapid velocity

and on 9 they are regular.
Those bile titans, assuming is what you mean aren't bad. Them stalkers are a PAIN. Nest always a priority in my book
I play level 9 difficulty and bosses spawn like every 30 seconds
Stalker don't spawn if you destroy the nest
I played a lvl 5 and had 4 titans
yeah the gameplay loop seems so simple in the beginning like there's not much too it but then after your first couple of missions when ramping up the difficulty you start to realize how many deep systems are in the background that make it so interesting and paired with the fun gameplay it's so addicting to play
I think one of my favorite parts is the fact that clearing higher difficulties isnt about grinding for gear, Although the gear and strats are very important. Its the fact that the more you coordinate with your team in terms of strats and callouts really makes it easier. Once my friends and i started picking our fights at the right time we started clearing suicide missions pretty easily and im still using the starting AR.

Loved helldivers 1, was sceptical with the camera change on 2 but damn it's still hella fun
Same here. It is a bit less dynamic compared to HD1 since it's not a shared screen, but the animations, the effects, the shooting, the atmosphere, the details..my god it is awesome. And best of all the potential is HUGE!
I have been screaming about this for years. Details and animations make the game, NOT graphics. Yes this has graphics but they went HAM on the details and animations and not hindering players with scripted crap. Love seeing the proof play out in real time but it makes me sad that people like Asmon can't see it. Love that it DOESN'T have damage numbers. Maybe if you add it through a scope and they on show when peering through a scope or ACOG but floating in the game thats a big no. If you see the damage numbers then you know whether or not your weapon is doing good or not. You have to figure it out by the ANIMATIONS and REACTIONS from the mobs (gee imagine that lol).

You can turn on damage numbers in the options hud menu. They are default off
They really got the feel right. It's heavy, impactful, the sound design is great, the music makes you feel epic. The game loop is simple but they've managed to capture some magic that's hard to pinpoint.
You don't need damage numbers when you got visual physical damage indicators you can rip the bugs and bots apart
Can't believe they made the gameplay from a top down twin stick shooter translate so well into 3rd person
This is the number 1 thing. They did a great job.
Helldivers are those Confessor Cabals fighting those aliens would look like.
I think some of the coolest stuff is that you can actually be a weapons team, where you help your teammate shoots big weapons like rocket launchers or autocannons and you reload it for him. Also, you can shoot the armor plates off chargers with explosives and then shoot the weak spot/flesh under it.
The world really does need more Earth Defense Force type games. They're amazing and some of the most fun co-op experiences ever.

The combat, and exploration and the fact you can be over run so easily with out warning, makes the game feel so alive and fun, plus the sense of duty even though it's pretty comical in this, is a great touch.
My only issue with game rn is that it's pretty much online only and the devs didn;t seem to know how many people would play, so servers are pretty much full constantly.
their last game highest concurrent online was like 7000 players across pc and ps4 and ps3 and psv. So yeah this blew up beyond what they'd imagine. As an OG i would never in my imagine it would blow up to this extend

This is one of those games that's a hidden gem to literally every body.
The developers had high expectations certainly, but they failed to understand how popular it would prove to be as this was way beyond their wildest dreams and now they are playing catchup big time.
This is also normal for a live service game, but the hype and enthusiasm of the community makes the devs work harder, because they have to rethink their tools and expand them several fold, something they always hoped for, but never really believed would happen.

This looks like Starship troopers meets The Mandolorian and Warhammer
It has unlimited potential if they do it right, they could add basically an unlimited number of enemies and scenarios. Imagine they add something like telepathic aliens like the greys and they take over the bugs and it totally changes bug strats, just as an example of one possibility of additions.
Can't wait for Asmon to play the game for like a single weekend, stop playing the game, and then just spend the rest of the year reacting to clips of the game, saying "That's cool I should play it again" and then never playing it.

Oh Asmon finally made his way to helldivers? Big RIP to the servers now lmao. Gonna love it
It having friendly fire is essential a component. Without this I think it would lack any sense of consequence.
Friendly fire is the "special sauce" of the franchise.
Imagine if the NPCs used lines recorded by the players, based on some sort of point-based ranking system. Maybe have a top-20 and then dev/players vote for which ones. It would be hilarious and keep players interested in the meta-game
Brooo I'm so happy this game is blowing up, the first game built such a good base to be expanded upon and they did just that in the best way possible
The game is so much fun. They even have Game Masters for live service, that are like Dungeon Masters in D&D and can spice things up with spawn rates, effects (like giving everyone incendiary mines, weather conditions,...), etc.
Yes I had it happen to me. Game master made the weather go batshit wild and raised extraction pickup time to 5 minutes after the destroyer left so we couldn’t reinforce. It was so intense
Now that sounds freaking awesome. Giving tools to your admins to make the game better. Like Guild Wars 2 giving people the ability to be Commanders and improve the game and help other people succeed in it.
First game that's had me truly addicted in a while. So glad to see this game pop off
Looks fun but my money is on Dragon's Dogma 2.
I'm really surprised this has so many mechanisms from the previous game. Previous game is really fun and having TPS version of it are even more fun!
Same
@@FutaCatto2game is still over a month away from releasing, I’d be worried about other shit if you gotta hold onto your money that tightly lmao
@@TheGroingler How so? People preferred to spend their money on The Witcher 3 instead of Metal Gear 5 when both released on the same year. I'm saving up for both Dragon's Dogma 2 and Space Marine 2 this year. I don't need 2 Co-Op Sci-Fi games.
actually it has recently come out that you use a big weapon like the EAT, or the Recoilles Rifle, or autocannon, and shoot one of the front legs of the charger to expose their actual weak spot...
Man I gotta tell you, we’re being torn apart defending those automatons planets (challenging and up)
This is one of those games where the biggest enemies are your own teammates.
Helldivers 2 gonna be his next change his life game or maybe he won’t touch it at all
I think this sums up the editors and asmon perfectly.
The game's gonna touch him in his special place and its up to him to see if he'll like that or not.
yea this game is either gonna be "this game is now my personality" or "this game is fucking dumb and it's way to much pay for power"
It’s basically starship troopers and terminator mixed into one hell of a game
It's fun, have fun playing dude!
This game is too much fun, I’m already lvl 45 😅 I think level cap is 50
Dude you need to take a break
Are you just doing the 5 minute missions over and over to lvl up cause i have 60 hours and am not even 30? Im trying to savour the game like a delivious cup of liber-tea
@@beelze1821Same, I’m only level 11 I have almost 18 hours but I haven’t been grinding much because I am trying to unlock all the difficulties
Dude…
@@beelze1821 really? I've played for 31 hours and I'm lvl 21
I love how the answer to all his questions is "no"
I remember back in highschool playing Helldivers 1 with my friends, and after almost every match we would be laughing our asses off. Helldivers 2 is just that on steroids.
My buddy found out that the flamethrower is super useful against the charger/tank Terminids
This game is an unbelievable amount of fun. A good progression path to follow, a live "war" going on, on 2 fronts. Its amazing
Starship troopers + terminator + star wars
this is already one of the best years of gaming and we are only two months in.
Its crazy how much some of those alien planets look like your room!
There's way to much screen clutter to have damage numbers.
Not to mention that the dmg numbers would be "static", no RNG affecting the numbers. You’d see the same numbers all the time.
@@LethalOwlyes because the enemies don’t have a health pool. Headshots don’t do more damage they just hit the head part of the enemy. The combat is penetration and part based
no damage numbers means no hit confirms
you normally don't know if you're hitting something when you're shooting into the fog/dust/darkness (but you do get kill confirms and maybe no-penetration indicator)
that means you can't scan or scout ahead by just shooting at the trees or empty space without wasting too much ammo
damage numbers would actually affect the gameplay, especially when the planet has modifiers in it like bad weather conditions
@@Kensuke0987 have you played the game? There are hit confirms that tell you if you are hitting an enemy and it is red if you hit a weak spot I think or if you kill I don’t pay attention to it that much but it is overlayed on your crosshair.
@@dabbingraccoons6416 yeah, sorry. i only noticed the hit confirms a while ago.
You lose your weapons when you die and anything you have picked up like your samples (Like to upgrade your statagems) secondary gun. The Automatons (Cyborgs) were in the first one, along with an alien race that reminds me of Protoss from Starcraft. (Once the third race is open) Not everything is available yet to use, they will be adding more. The Bile Titan, the big bug that was killed at like 2:40-2:51, it can blow up your escape shuttle if it is alive while you're there.
Nothing more satisfying than calling in an eagle strike as you run for your life.
They didn't even Show any of the Team killing mine action. The only thing standing inbetween me and liberty, god damn mines.
I just wish helldivers 1 was popolar as it deserves
everything is simple but everything you do feels impaftful, the core gameplay just feels so refined and well done that alone keeps you playing. shooting enemies feels so satisfying because where you shoot affects the rag doll effects of the enemies.
this game is best enjoy with friends and you need to ignore the whole concept of end game and ride the rollercoaster with this its goes from a barrel of laughs whenever you get that accidental team wipe to an insane high when you get that epic save of a mission
Proof that guns, explosions, and pure chaos is fun in massive amounts
Counter-point: Michael Bay movies exist xD
this games a bloodbath at higher lvls
@@cloudsstar yeah well lucky me, I like to bathe in my enemies bodily fluids.
When hasnt that been true?
@@Special_Agent_Frank_Horrigan lol until you have to do that evacuate mission in robot land I can't beat that I have yet to join a team and beat it
