  • I show you how to remove the old, and install a new clutch master cylinder. This video is specific to a Porsche 944. Also, I mention it towards the end of the video, but to get my clutch pedal to feel firm, I did the final bleed with the pedal all the way to the floor. After closing the bleeder valve on the slave, I lifted the pedal by hand and it was perfect!

    That’s a flare wrench. A crowsfoot attaches to a 3/8” drive.

Can I ask what issue you were facing before replacing the CMC? My 84 944's Clutch pedal works like it should but doesn't return more than 1/3 of the normal amount. I can pull it back out by hand or with my foot, but it no longer returns as it should. I want to be sure there isn't any other fix besides this drastic of a repair.

I noticed fluid dripping from the master cylinder inside the floor board, and, my clutch pedal would go to the floor and not return at times.

@@Clayscott87 ah thank you, I took mine to a 32 year retired Porsche mechanic to look over it so hopefully he can assess the best fix for me

My clutch randomly stopped working on my 944 while i was driving. The pedal still feels the same as it always has when i push it in. No loss of fluid in the reservoir. But it doesn't engage anything when i press it, i had to shift without the clutch to get it home. Any ideas if it's the slave or master or is it more Likely the clutch disc?

Hi. I’m currently restoring a 1982 944 and the clutch goes straight to floor I’m replacing both master and slave at the same time then you know it’s all done and bled properly. Costs less than 200 well worth the job.

It’s always better to do the cheaper option first is what I’m trying to say

If your pedal is operating normally and you can confirm it’s moving the clutch fork, then you likely have a clutch failure of some kind. The disk, pressure plate, or throw out bearing… if pedal does not move the fork, then it’s a master/slave/pedal/line failure

@@LJC944did replacing the both the master and slave fix the issue? My 1983 944 currently has that same issue, clutch pedal springs straight down to the floor

If your clutch pedal is operating like it should, but you can’t work the clutch… I’m afraid you’ve got bigger issues. You are likely looking at a new clutch kit.
