- This is a promotional video for Butch Trucks' live 2 hour multi-media presentation, "Fishin' WIth Duane." Butch reflects on the impact Duane Allman had on his life and tells behind-the-scenes stories about Duane and The Allman Brothers Bands' early days. Butch's presentation includes rare video footage and photos.

Butch was a great guy, I hooked up with them in 73. They were all good folks but Butch made us feel very welcome. He let me play his kit-I was & honored & still am!

I met Butch once in 1977 or 1978 when he had his band cyalled "Trucks".y They played in liutttle club in Mobile, AL called "Thirsties" where about 200 people would jam into a space for about 75. On a break, he wandered over to where I was playing "Pong" and asked if I wanted to play a game. I did, and I won. He bought me a beer and we talked for a few minutes. On the next break he found me for a rematch. This time he won and I bought him a beer. Smiles and good times all around that night. Nicest guy you would ever want to meet.
I'm from Mobile went to Thirties all the time.
I use to play next door at Mike's Public House. Some good times at those places, saw many great bands there.

If there's anything that makes my day, It's hearing stories about Duane and the Brothers.
I'm not even much of a fan much less a big fan and I still love to read about them especially Duane. My favorite story is about the "foot shootin' party" haha.

It broke my heart to hear about Butch's suicide - I think he was a genuinely good guy and part of the driving force behind a great band.
I think if he asked a few people, friends, they'd given him all the money he needed!!!!!!!! I know if I'd known he needed it, I would have!!!

The original line up of Allman Brothers will always be at the top of the list for me. Especially when it comes to jammin'. I really miss Gregg's growling yet melodic voice especially in It's Not my cross to bear really one of a kind tht voice.
I love the original group too, but I believe that Derek and Warren are at least equals. Love the fact the TTB is doing some recordings now on tape.

Totally agree wit Butch's assessment. Not to slag Clapton but I think many who bought the Layla upon orig. relese had no idea the solos that smoke the most are in fact Duane. He made that album as far as I'm concerned.
Trüth, ï believe ï wôuld prefer Skydog over any other Guitar playa, even when he was with Delaney and Bonnie, took the Music to la-la land, i became a Skydog fan, from my 1st time àt á Wãrêhoūsè, til the hê passed into transition, he was the one who could take his Guitar and hitt you right in the Third Eye, he was Phenomenal, jùs sàyin ¡😎🥚😎¡

Eric was really addicted to heroine at that time. So I agree with Burch. Duane saved the day.
Duane Allman worked his butt off from the very beginning to become Duane Allman.All the Allman Brothers work paid off to make them the greatest band ever to come out of the south. I miss those early days a lot.
Leaning against the stage at an Allman Brothers concert, right in front of Berry Oakley at the Manhattan Center in late August 1971 - yup - that was me - a night one never forgets. RIP Butch
By the time of the unfortunate and eternally regrettable end of Duane's life, NOBODY could hold a candle to his game, not even Clapton coming close.... as told to me by BB King outside Palace Theater New Haven CT March 1988, while I was hounding him for a handshake and an autograph.
When I told BB how much I dug him and Duane on Sweet Little Angle/Loan Me a Dime from DA Anthology he said, "that boy played like I can only wish I could."
Then he said "I'll tell him you said so when I see him someday."
25 some years later they're finally together again.

I had a long-haired MaineCoon mutt I rescued from a feral litter when I waz young so many years ago and first got to living alone.
I called him Tsunami cuz of the regal way he held himself with a color and a coat so soft and floofy, unmistakable like no other there ever was and knew darn well he was esp pretty ...
- and what a friendly kiiity he grew up to be... would flop on the sidewalk to let passers-by rub his belly whenever we were out front and sidle-up swishy-tail to anyone, even the mailman, imagine that.
Then around age 3 he went missing and I called and whistled and hung up signs, combing through backyards empty sheds and old garages, shining a light under decks and porches and knocking on every door that would answer... but no Tsunami.
My search was so tenacious i was certain if he got hit I'd at least find a trace or word of his death ... but no Tsunami
Nearly 3 months had gone by and my hope was waning but still I'd make my regular loop, if only to delude myself for one more day.
It was a Saturday after half day of work, I parked my truck at my home and set out on my route, when 2 blocks down and around 2 corners I came upon that old woman's house the one with the front yard flower-filled just as she was tending her garden.
We talked about her flowers and plants and what a lovely day while she clipped buds and pulled weeds when suddenly looking about, I could not believe my eyes... there thru the picture window was Tsunami sprawled across the back of her couch, asleep in the sun.
I'd recognize him anywhere by the face and that coat
My heart skipped a beat but I held back saying only, That's a real nice looking kitty you have there... what's his name?
She said, Oh yes that's Jasper, my husband's name, we were together nearly 50 years, and he showed up a month to the day since Jasper died. He's my husband come back to me... I kno because he never leaves the sight of me. I'm so lucky he came.
I was so terribly lonely before then. He gives me everything to live for, I didn't know what to do with the rest of my life before he came to me.
With that I gave her a hug and said, I'm so sorry about your loss but I kno Jasper is lucky to have found his way to you. It's clear you are both well-loved and meant for each other

As I walked away I turned to look in time to see her inside stroking Tsunami's fur, she lovingly smiling at him... he pushing against her hand, his eyes squinted shut

I envision the call he received telling him it was time to leave and always wondered if, at the end of the path, he paused to give a look back - one final time
To this day my heart aches and is lifted all in one.

I had the pleasure to be with Butch Trucks and Jaimoe at Julio iglesiasia house in miami in 1996 for Tom Dowds partyt when he received the masters of music award for his 50th year of producing records it was on of my most memorable nights with the guys and my best friend Tom Dowd i was so shocked to hear of Butchs death ,They were truly great guys really down to earth and very kind RIP Butch

While "Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs" would have been remembered as another find Eric Clapton album, it's the guitar duets that make it a truly stunning record, just as the Allman/Betts combination was a large part of the ABB magic.
I keep waiting for the fishin story !

I snatched up the Skydog boxset as soon as I heard about it! And have been enjoying ever since.I already own the two prev. Duane Anthologies,but this is the final word on a comprehensive career retrospective. For a 7 cd set it never bores nor drags on.Probably 1 of the finest,lovingly compiled,packaged box sets I own.Hey,wasn't it a cool touch they discs are packaged in a guitar string package. Just wonderful,any fan of Duane please don't hesitate to get this,you won't be sorry.

Butchie, Butch, thanks for being a part of my life for 40t years.
Butch Trucks style of drumming along with his brother Jaimoe, was totally original with a fusion of jazz, blues, and country with an amazing shuffle that was the southern rock drum percussion sound that was their own trademark. No other band played like the Allman Brothers drummers as their style started and originated with THEM. Butch Trucks was a fantastic drummer and percussionist who left a lasting legacy in the music and drumming world. We miss you Buctch, one of the best blues country drummers of our era, they don't get any better than the "frieght Train". RIP.

+Northboy70 I guess Duane is a tad underrated in that regard, but any true music fan knows. Who really is underrated is the other guitar player that Duane chose for his band...
Ramesh Nyberg Duane is alone at the top but Alvin Lee cooks.The Bluest Blues 1994 unbelievably great.George Harrison has first solo,slide, kills it then Alvin closes with 3 or 4 blistering minutes.
Jamie Ninety Five He was underrated for a long time, but you’re right he’s been getting his credit. Which is great because Duane is the greatest guitar player to ever walk to face of the earth.

Come to Macon, Ga. Find the Hardeman Rd-Forsyth St exit, head away from town to Berry's house on Vineville, Ave. It is now the Big House, Allman Brothers Museum. If you took the time to watch this video, you will love the place.

As an ABB fan since 1972, I travelled from UK especially to visit Macon and the Big House and then pay my respects at Rose Hill Cemetery. So glad I made the effort - a wonderful experience,magical. RIP all departed Brothers.

The "Hey Jude" cover was the first time Eric Clapton heard Duane, and he took note. Many Rock critics consider the combo of Soul with acid guitar for the first time to be the opening salvo of Southern Rock at its birth.

Southern rock?? Last i knew all rock was southern- worldwide now, but its ALL rooted deeply in the south, but dont hold that against it!
@@markallison2630 you obviously don't know. There is a clear distinction between rock music and Southern rock. You can thank The Allman Brothers for that. Without them, the subgenre probably never would've been created.
Bruce Springsteen, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, Aerosmith...none of those are Southern Rock or can be traced back the Southern rock. Eric Clapton isn't Souther rock. Lynyrd Skynyrd. Allman Brothers. Jethro Tull, Marshall Tucker, 38 Special. Those are Southern rock bands. There is a CLEAR distinction.
There are clear subgenres of rock music. Classic rock, Southern rock, country rock, and even glam rock. Just because it happened to be the Southern US that rock music was 'born' doesn't make all, rock music 'Southern rock'. If you don't understand that, you probably shouldn't be on the internet trying to argue point of a subject of which you know nothing about.

Geez, thanks for a chance to hear stories first hand from a real gentleman that I had read about and all of them at least third hand. Few of us possess the qualities of a real oral historian. It's seemingly an almost extinct art-form. What makes the experience so special is the subject matter. I greatly appreciate your posting this, which I found most serendipitously. First time I have watched this. So tragic Butch chose to end his life the way he did. A go fund me page would have raised more than enough to pay off the IRS. Million fans putting up $.50 each.

i saw the band in 1976 at manor downs austin , texas , i was 12 or 13 and these guys jammed well past one oclock man and i remember gregg up there behind the bank of keyboards and he was like rock royalty , all of them man , but at the time gregg was getting alot of press with cher . and so thats why i was so impressed .... man i was 12 , peace t. d.

I'll never forget my introduction to real music.9 years old. Statesboro Blues, am radio, huddled under my blanket, supposed to be asleep..... life suddenly had meaning. God bless the Allman Brothers.
I never went to summer camp as a kid. THIS is the summer camp for me.
