Even some Indians do that. I remember taking turmeric rice to school with some paneer and my classmate was like "what is this?" and she dig into the rice with her roti and ate it. I was like "Are u sure you'd enjoy that?" she's like I do this on a daily basis...to each their own bro but man why does one want to dip one carb based food into other carb based food?!
I'm Indian.. I do it all the time.. There's no rule against it..

Grill them from for 20-30secs with glazed butter and enjoy with pinch of rock salt on them if using plain butter.

Pav bhaji is one of the tastiest things on the planet. It originated from Mumbai but I like it better in Delhi because its more tomatoey and sweeter than what you get in Mumbai. Fortunately, my mother makes the best pav bhaji ever. Unfortunately, I am now in the US so I only get to eat it once in a while.

Indeed it’s amazing. Don’t wish to be the spoiler here but still I’d recommend you to visit along with your family and have the thali. I’d say the same thing to any Indian as well to either go in groups or atleast carry a tiffin along. We must not forget that India is also a country where some people don’t even get to have a normal meal in a day, forget about dishes. It won’t harm if after having few items, you could collect the remaining in a tiffin and share a part of that experience with someone whose not as fortunate. This way we’re not wasting food either.
