Thank you for this video! As a former local for many years, I have skied that run and enjoyed the views many times. The camera angle is perfect to show the immediate conditions as well as what lies ahead and simulate the sensations that compel us to ski. I especially appreciate not having a sound track which would block the sound of the wind and different snow textures which are such an integral part of the skiing experience. Bravo.
Ah yes, Ridge Run trail, I think using Canyon Express chair lift high enough for the view or using Sky Express lift at the right hours can be shorter line (maybe because Sky Express has some black run on the left of the trail map discourage beginner skier. In later hours it get crowded, many skier try to go to Nevada side using this Sky Express lift to get to Skyline Trail).
I love Lake Tahoe. This run has some nice views of the lake but I still think the main run at the Homewood resort gives the most spectacular view of the lake. It almost makes you dizzy at one point as you get the feeling you are flying over the West Shore part of the lake. I used to live up in Lake Tahoe for many years. I sure do miss the beauty of the lake with its fresh pine air along with the amazing views of the stars in night sky.
I lived there for 3 years and instructed at heavenly. The best view I ever saw was when I took the lift down the face of the Cali side and it was cloudy. Well all the sudden a break in the clouds let one sunbeam go through and made a rainbow that was absolutely stunning. Basically the whole resort stopped to see it
WHAT about Mt. ROSE, Diamond Peak-Incline Village, GUN BARREL run, at Heavenly Valley? Sadly, I retired from skiing when I lived in ALBUQUERQUE but having skied in Durango, Colorado at PURGATORY SKI resort, elevation almost 10k ft elevation ski run 4/1986 was an incredible place to say "Hasta La Vista Baby" ! 🤗
Heavenly was the first place I skied. It hadn’t snowed for two weeks, but snowed about a foot the night before I went. After bunny slope training, they sent me up to ski greens. I took the chair down that goes over Gun Barrel. OMG the view. I fell in love and was hooked ever since.
I'm at Kirkwood by default. But from time to time, we need to just cruise low and slow and smell the roses. Many thanks for the ride Irwan and THANK you for not putting some goofy boom boom music under.
We just came back from skiing Heavenly @ Tahoe. Crazy beautiful place. I only wish we could have stayed longer. Thanks for sharing. Makes me feel like I'm there again.
If you stay left near the bottom it keeps going even further. You end up at the bottom of the Powder Bowl chair. Really long groomed easy intermediate run with fantastic Tahoe views the whole way.
And then if instead of getting on the Powderbowl chair, you stay a little to the right and you are on Roundabout, which takes you all the way down to the California lodge (base of the Gunbarrel Express lift). So you can ski from the top of Sky (about 10,060 feet or so) down to the California Lodge at about 6500 feet with no lifts if you want (there are lifts to make it a little better if you want). I've done that many times, catching the last ride up on Sky at 4:00. Fun way to end the day.
Beautiful views and trail! Was that the Ridge Run Blue Square trail? Never skied out west but it’s on the old bucket list! LOL.. Thanks for sharing and happy trails! 🙏👍❄️🙂☃️
I thought Gunbarrel was the most scenic run at Heavenly, you're looking at the lake the whole way down. I was a cook at Harvey's in SLT in the mid '70s when I was in my late teens to early 20s. Skied Heavenly all the time. It was a great time to be young. I lived down the street from Heavenly. I'd get off of work early afternoon grab my skis and go. It was cheap then. I could get a couple of hours skiing in mid-week with few people on the mountain and short lift lines. Gunbarrel was super moguly and it was always my last run of the day. When there was fresh powder it was sublime. We didn't wear helmets then and snowboards weren't allowed, they were considered dangerous. Snowboarders were sort of an outlaw cult. Later I moved to Montana and took up xc. My sis was the chief ranger at Old Faithful in Yellowstone and we'd meet at Big Sky and Telemark with leather boots and three-pin or cable bindings. This was late '80s to early '90s. The snow was incredible, compared to Sierra cement. I'm almost 66 now and don't ride chairlifts anymore. I'm exclusive xc, with a bit of snowshoeing now and then.
I would recommend starting with something simpler than this and with a ski instructor. It's not a difficult run, but it wouldn't be a run for someone their first time on skis.
@@edwinmalachy this would be round a bout. It's 5.5 miles long and runs from top to bottom on the California side so you can avoid the dbl black diamond face
I lived in Tahoe for 3 years in the early 80's, my 2 favorite ski areas were Heavenly for it's Long cruising runs and Homewood for it's short yet challenging runs.
I have never skied before and I’m planning to go down to Lake Tahoe for winter break would this place be good for beginner skiers ⛷ Thanks and have a good day 😊

In the 80s, as mountain manager, I was severely criticized for doubling the width of this run. It turned out to have been a good decision.

Long runs. Fresh snow. Perfect weather. You live for those days. Thanks for the video.

I just skiied Heavenly vicariously through Irwan Chang. Thanks for that!
